I need your mad-scientist-and-mad-science-ish themed songs, preferably with a little sinisterness to them. ..... (What's He Building In There by Tom Waits is a good example.)
For duty, duty, must be done, the rule applies to everyone;"Weird Science" by Oingo Boingo is an obvious choice.
If "industry gone mad" is close enough to mad science for you, then "Giants" by Five Iron Frenzy.
Emily Howell and the Cybraphon are real-life musical projects which some might consider mad. Emily Howell is a computer program that composes original music. The Cybraphon is a steampunk-looking robot that performs music... and its creators went the extra step and programmed it to be a moody narcissist, to boot.
I didn't write any of that.Tom Waits is pretty one-of-a-kind in a lot of ways.
You might find the atmospheres explored in Nurse With Wound's early releases edifying in spite of the relative dearth of discernible vocals, particularly Homotopy to Marie, Merzbild Schwet, To the Quiet Men from a Tiny Girl and Ostranenie 1913.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.I'm trying to look for music that is really chaotic and all over the place. I don't care whether it is vocal or instrumental.

"Strategy? Spacing? I just keep punching until I hit something." - Sol BadguyI'm not sure whether this is what you're after, but the less melodic styles of Death Metal are full of chaotic songs. Take this for example:

"I thought Djent was just a band" -Physical StaminaI'd recommend some Amon Düül I stuff (do not confuse it with the group who shared a common past with them and which is more famous, called Amon Düül II). If you want disorganized stuff.
What I want is music that is something with a similar spirit or subject manner to Oingo Boingo 's Weird Science or Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. .....

I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception. Is there any songs that is similar to this?
I've been trying to get into metal, as I quite like the dirty, aggressive instrumental styles, but I cannot stand the vocals of any of the groups I've found yet. If anyone knows any artists who make purely (or at least dominantly) instrumental metal, of any type or hybrid, I'd be grateful.
Do you mean that you don't like the "growled/screeched" vocals, or that you don't like the vocals of bands that use cleans exclusively either? It would also help to know what sorts of metal you are after. Something like this is very different to something like this: bit.ly/1pIO4lQ. (While neither of the songs I linked are instrumental, I would highly recommend them both.)

"I thought Djent was just a band" -Physical StaminaYou might like Tempel's album On the Steps of the Temple.

- Try Apocalyptica?
- Epica has two albums, The Score and The Classical Conspiracy, which are both largely instrumental.
- You might also seek out Trans Siberian Orchestra; they are not purely instrumental, but they quite a lot of instrumental songs. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]
- And I found this group, which seems quite thorough though their formal list hasn't been updated for a few years.
Ok, someone please, please, please find some good Post-Metal bands that don't have a super sludgy sound to them. That is, not Isis, Pelican, Cult of Luna, The Ocean, etc. But more along the lines of Irepress (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR-WO3sNfR4) Or Junius (Please, please, more Junius) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3ACTY5i8k8
Requesting a recommendation for metal bands with a bass or low baritone singer, preferably heavy, power, prog, or doom. I already know Type O Negative and Reverend Bizarre.
Somehow you know that the time is right. Not asking for a music recommendation exactly, but a music service recommendation:
Anyone got comments/opinion on the following music streaming services?
- Pandora
- iHeartRadio
-
iTunes Radionever mind, I can't use this on Android - Rhapsody
- Spotify
- Slacker
- Milk Music
Are there certain styles of music one is better or worse for? For example, I've noticed that Pandora has very little J-pop/anisong.

I'd recommend Rdio. It's a paid service, but it's not expensive and has a comprehensive library, and you can find plenty of artists you didn't even know about simply by association with genres you like (unless you want to listen to Led Zeppelin - for some reason, they have nothing from them but an audio interview there). In terms of genres... I'm not sure, but the one thing I've looked for and couldn't find on Rdio was J-Rock (except for X Japan). I think they might have J-Pop, though.
Oh, and it works on Android.
As for me, I'd like some classic heavy metal recommendations. Like, 70s and early 80s (NWOBHM and similars, even early thrash metal). But not the bigger ones like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, even though I like 'em; I mean those bands that usually fly more "under the radar", like Budgie, Riot or Angel Witch.

One Nation Under WiFiI can't exactly claim a deep knowledge of metal(All of these guys are on Spotify after all, then again, so are Riot and Angel Witch), but for Black Sabbathy stuff that's not Black Sabbath, there's Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Pagan Altar, Witchfinder General and for a proto-thrash type band there's Metal Church.

Only Death Is RealAnyone can point me to some industrial metal bands similar to Breach The Void (mostly referred as "cyber metal")? Now that it and Sybreed disbanded, I've nowhere to go...
(tried Neosis and Neurotech already)
No regret shall pass over the threshold!I'm looking for things that are twofold:
1. Are very upbeat, and are unlikely to remind me of death, and
2. Aren't just generic pop music.
Another green world.Would you like some classical music? Or some J-pop?
Classical music might be nice. I don't think I'd like J-pop, though. Anything else is fair game, though.
Another green world.
Setting aside my qualms about Pixies' recent work, I approve of the above recommendations, particularly Belle & Sebastian (oh, if only you were gay, sexy frontma- FORGET I SAID THAT) and Caribou, who is quite odd.
A few more suggestions:
Also, I'm not totally familiar with Forest Swords or Metronymy, but I've heard a lot of good things. Elbow, Midlake, The Horrors and Pink Mountaintops are less my speed, but they might be worth a look. And Lykke Li is pretty cool, but one fears the fangirl tides.
