Wick Migration

Go To

Some tropers (myself included) have been moving works from the Main/ namespace to the appropriate namespace. Unfortunately, some of these moves were done without the wicks being corrected to reflect the new namespaces.

There are more wicks than any one person could handle, so I'm posting here in hopes of getting help. Here is a list of pages that have been moved and need their wicks corrected. (Let me know if you spot any others, and I'll add them to the list.)

EDIT: The list has been moved to Administrivia.Wick Namespace Migration.

Add completed moves in Completed Namespace Migrations.

Well, you can use the Wick Namespace Migration page and relocate wicks from anything on the list.

Going by the rule that Light Novels / Anime / Manga series get the namespace of the first media (the one within which the work was created), it seems to me that Dirty Pair should be in the "LightNovel/" namespace instead of "Anime/". (Given that it was already the case for Slayers or Haruhi Suzumiya). Any objection?

[up] Speaking of which, there's a whole bunch of works that have been namespaced to Anime that shouldn't be there because they started as something else (usually manga) (and it's not a case of separate pages for the anime and the original work). Should I start a separate thread for those, or add them to the sandbox to be re-moved?

Yeah, I've noticed a few myself. But I don't think this need a new thread (unless there're really a lot of them). Incorrect namespaces changed for the correct one happen a lot (notably with animated films wrongly put in Film/). They should just be placed again in Wick Namespace Migration after being moved to the proper namespace.

[up] There's at least 20-30 at a quick glance, I was going to go through the entire Anime namespace list when I have the time.

I'm also wondering about the page for Manga.Ouran High School Host Club. The manga came first, so that's where it should be, but the description says "based on the shojo manga", making the page in Manga/ but about an anime. And of course the tropes cover both things.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

[up] I just deleted the phrase. There was otherwise nothing in the description which was anime-specific.

I'm not familiar with the series but generally, how does one approach a shared anime and manga space like Excel Saga in terms of migration logistics? I see a shared character page.

The Franchise/ Namespace is for works who have really spread over multiple media. Plenty of Anime/ and Manga/ pages cover both works, and are not worthy of the term "franchise" yet.

The standard is to use the namespace for the first iteration of the work, usually Manga/ unless it's Anime First.

However, digging further into this, I notice there are already a Manga/ and Anime/ pages for Excel Saga, which is usually the case when both versions are sufficently apart. In THIS case, it means the Main/ entry is redondant and shouldn't have such an extended description. It should just be a disambiguation page (staying in Main/) and the relevant description and tropes should be moved to their respective pages if not already present.

Now, after responding to other's concern, my own little topic:

I have been thinking for a while about what to do with comics that have been published on paper, but have since then migrated to the Web.

My conclusion is that those that have started and gone through most of their run as Comic Books or Comic Strips should have the relevant namespace, as is the rules we're currently applying for LightNovel/, Manga/ and Anime/.

This means that Buck Godot Zap Gun For Hire or PS238, for examples, should go in the ComicBook/ namespace (and Whats New With Phil And Dixie in ComicStrip/). They can still be mentioned in some Webcomic indexes, that's not a problem.

On the other hand, comics which have most of the original material online can be in the Webcomic/ namespace. Examples include Nodwick or Girl Genius.

I think that's the best rule to follow.

Alright, Excel Saga is pretty clearly manga first, but would one dupe the "in common" tropes to each namespace? Looking at the Full Metal Alchemist section for precedent, I'd guess no, but I want to be sure.

Completed two VideoGame/ namespace moves: The Town with No Name and Evil Zone. Neither had many wicks to change. The only wick remaining for Evil Zone is "Main.Shiralee", which is a contributor page that was moved to Tropers/Shiralee here (I have changed the wick on that page). Attempting to put it on the Cut List leads to the site claiming that the page does not exist, but it still appears on Main.Evil Zone's "Related to..." list, which must be a bug.

^ Known problem for pages that were automagically moved to another namespace.

To clear it, you have to create the page on /Main (state in the edit reason that you're clearing a bugged wick; just need a single character on the page, doesn't matter what you use), set the page type (IIRC "subpage" works), then submit the created page for cutlisting

[up] Actually, you don't even need to put a character on the page. Just a null edit (i.e. hitting "edit", adding an edit reason, and hitting "save") will work to "create" the page.

^^ Huh, I didn't know that. I had assumed that it was like with most common kinds of forum software, that it would balk at a totally blank page. Good to know, thanks. smile

I'd say, nothing stop you from putting common tropes on each page, if they aren't already mentionned, which is likely. Trope examples are valuable whatever their origins.

I have just moved Anime.Vision Of Escaflowne to Manga. The Vision Of Escaflowne, even though it's a bit of special case. Checking with Wikipedia, the Katsu Aki manga is indeed anterior, although it seems the anime was meant to be first but stayed on hold a few year, and the manga used preliminary character designs. Anyway, it is one of those cases where the anime and manga continuities are separate enough to deserve their own page. So, if someone knowing well the series want to spit the article with an Anime. The Vision Of Escaflowne page, you are free to do so.

Question, I believe there's both an Anime series and an Anime movie, both of which have their own plots but resolve around the same robot*

and protagonist character. What should be done?

Considering that "Film/" shouldn't be used as namespace for animated films, and if the series really is Anime First and thus both articles belong in the "Anime/" namespace, I guess the easiest way is to give them each their own article with slightly different titles, for example the movie version having "The Movie" added to differentiate them. Or maybe the movie has some secondary title which can be used to lenghten it (it's common with Anime).

[up][up]You wouldn't be referring to Ghost In The Shell, would you? Because that's the only series I can name that has both an anime movie and an anime show (Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex), and both major media are primarily drawn from the manga by Masamune Shirow.

Moved Charmed to the Series/ namespace. I started going through the wicks, but with 1000 of them, help would be nice.
