We have Intelligence Tropes, but no Stupidity Tropes, so I'm in favor of just making this into that. I don't think we need an index specifically for contrived stupidity, although I would like to see the Idiot Ball type tropes collected in something besides This Index Has Balls. But that's neither here nor there.
Make sure you make a paired Comedic Stupidity Tropes for when idiocy is temporary/or only done for a joke.
Fight smart, not fair. There is now a page action crowner for this trope here. Feel free to add options as you see fit.
Given how the description for this index focuses on contrived stupidity and how many inbounds it has, I think that making a separate more general index for stupidity tropes might be a good idea. If we do that, we can then move tropes that are not about contrived stupidity to that new index.

I think it looks cooked.
Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.Calling crowner.
I didn't write any of that.Does the index need to run through ykttw?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.No. If we have a solid, distinct theme, with enough tropes, you can make an index.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Don't all new indexes go through YKTTW?
A trope doesn't need to go through ykttw (I made Multi-Platform and Historical Domain Character without it). So neither do indexes. It's just highly recommended, but in this case, we know we have a solid index.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. There is now a Stupidity Tropes index and I tried to cut out tropes from the Contrived Stupidity Tropes index that did not seem contrived. I thought that Coincidental Dodge, Mistaken for Servant, Dug Too Deep, Ignored Enemy, and No Longer with Us did not seem to deal with stupidity enough to fit even the "super index," so I took them off. I was not sure about the following tropes though.
- Closed Circle
- Credit Card Plot
- Reality Show Genre Blindness
- Guns in Church
- Holding Both Sides of the Conversation
- Just Eat the MacGuffin
- The Millstone
- Recognition Failure
- Stating the Simple Solution
- Strategy, Schmategy
It is probably a good idea to take a look at them and and the indexes in general in case I made any mistakes in making/editing the two of them.

Yep, though ideally it would be nice if someone checked my work on the two indexes to make sure the tropes on the Contrived Stupidity Tropes one are really contrived.
Otherwise, I think this thread can be locked.

Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?
Several examples are just about stupidity used for its own sake, not stupidity which is used to drive the plot. Dumb Blonde, Humans Are Idiots, maybe The Fool which seems borderline. Idiot Cannonball is about a stupidity-causing weapon—technically that's stupidity driving the plot, but I would think the concept is that it's about stupidity arbitrarily driving the plot—stupidity with an in-story explanation shouldn't really count. Deus Exit Machina looks strange. It's about arbitrarily writing out the powerful character, which need not be an in-story case of stupidity at all, but can be in some cases.
Should we redefine the index? Keep it but rename it to "Stupidity Tropes"? Create a second "Non-Contrived Stupidity Tropes" index? Am I completely off base?
