Character Development Thread--Discussion

Two thirds done with a post, but I'm about to head off on my longest day of class. Still, unless things go wrong with my project and that ends up taking an inordinate amount of time, I should be able to have it done sometime today.

Speaking of which, Will, did you want to post for Cynthia first or nah?

I'll get around to posting for her eventually. As amusing as it may be for her to barge into someone's room looking for Minerva, only to find some NPCs engaged in an enthusiastic cardio workout or something, Cynthia won't find anything useful upstairs. Though, I guess I could post for her soon.

More research for me. Congrats, you are driving the logic part of my brain nuts. Excuse me while I jot down some formulas.

@Will: How potent is its Pulling Themselves Together ability then? The Midnight Stitcher admittedly can tear through titanium like it was tissue paper, and that's just one example- He's definitely one of the physically strongest entites on his Earth, but I've been more focused on his personality & character arc so I don't know his exact ranking.

Okay, going by my questionable math and the VS Battles Tiering System, The Midnight Stitcher is more powerful than the monster's overall durability. As for its pulling itself back together ability, think Stalfos. Reduce it to bone splinters/dust... not that anyone would know to do this. Maybe Ayako. Maybe.

Kkutwar, are Armory Knight's missiles guided? If so, how? It is important because I never really thought much about how Sentinel's powers may be used to interact with that kind of weapon, but depending on how they work she may have.

Oh, that's a good question actually. I have to say that it's a lot of fun to finally let Moreena join a battle scene btw. I was either intentionally holding her back or never really got an opportunity in the previous threads. Expect more weirdness if it keeps going.

I never thought much about how Sentinel would be like in a fight scene before because she prefers to operate from behind the scenes, and the current happenings also forced me to think to myself about what she can and can't do with her magic.

And I do expect things to get weirder, but not just because of Moreena, if things keep advancing in their current direction.

The missiles... I would say they're not, and its more of a blanketing Macross Missile Massacre Area-of-Effect, with his true objective firing forth an endless barrage from the machine gun.

Regarding weird though, he really can summon any weapon and basically utilize any related trope- Such as using those flamethrowers to propel himself. Honestly I could come up with any number of scenarios for him.

However, what I'm really looking forward to is the Strange Entity alongside Armory Knight speaking- Suffice to say, he'll fine it amusing Moreena is speaking to him with such certainty. Though I'm not entirely sure how lengthy Armory Knight's first battle should be: So any suggestions?

I've been kind of looking for an excuse for Sinistrina to do the same thing myself... at first I thought the only way that was going to happen was if Gabe tried to destroy Misery Manor, but now with Armory Knight around... It'll be interesting since if she fights Armory Knight, that'll make her seem like even more of a villain, especially to Patches.

@Kkutwar: I think you're overthinking this a bit... you have a demonic skeleton of ambiguous strength, how does Stitcher deal with that? And keep in mind Durnem asked him something about Vita Exosso as well. I think it's pretty reasonable to say that all of the characters in the group are of roughly equal strength - there's a supernatural luck spirit that fulfills a powerful support role, two members of elite crime-fighting organizations, and a (not) Eldritch being. Although, I think if the skeleton tries to regenerate, Durnem's vine-thingy spell would interfere with that, since said "vines" are entwined around its bones.

With regards to Phoebe in the Heart Forge, yeah , you can count on her waking up soon. I think I'll have Ashleigh stick around for a while though. This weekend I plan on posting with the Four Bardic Sisters and having them go off to their respective locations. I was going to send Emriel to the Heart Forge to replace Phoebe, so instead of a totally-freaked-out cowgirl, there'll be an extraterrestrial dancer helping Noire out.

Also, I've been waiting for quite a while on Wolf and Will De Regio in Frontier for the horseback group... I believe it's Wolf's turn to post for the wagon group as well (although that group really hasn't been posting in any sort of "order"). That is, unless you two are utterly speechless as to what to do about a telepathic catastrophe and the horses suddenly running for their lives.

Ladytanuki, I think doesn't make much difference, but Sentinel dropped Friedrich on my last post.

Regarding Armory Knight not reacting to Friedrich's beam... It seemed like a simple beacon (what with him shifting it from the golden being towards Armory), so I didn't see the need for a reaction.

Speaking of the Golden Being, why is everyone able to see to it? Cause there's suppose to be elements of By the Eyes of the Blind going on: Either possess a Gift (or three) like Patches or have an unusually powerful ability to perceive.

I'll admit I thought I got that across in-post without having to do too much. Still, I've been having a lot of fun coming up with the Golden Being's speeches, so I'll take any reason for him to speak sooner rather than later.

However regarding Patches, she launched herself towards Caleb to intercept Armory Knight- She didn't remotely conjure or fire anything to do so, though she was indeed enveloped in a telekinetic & electric force field.

@Will: Since Tanuki asked what The Midnight Stitcher would do... He would essentially crucify the creature and string it up with his combat stitching, telling Ayako she deserves to be the one who kills it. So would that be acceptable with everyone?

Wrote my Sentinel post. The enchantment she is placing on Armory Knight is supposed to "hack" his shapeshifting and regeneration abilities and insert a transmutation process in them that should petrify it, but since Sentinel couldn't make a perfect spell due to not knowing exactly how Armory Knight works, it will instead make it very weak and lethargic if her focus and line of sight are not interrupted.

It is a bit weird, but since everyone involved is either some kind of magic user or a literal deity, I'd say it's justified. "Normal" characters seem to be pretty rare in these threads.

Well, this Dreamscape is hardly natural for one- And being above reality must have a different effect than being behind it. So really I've been operating under three factors: This Dreamscape is weird, that they're not fully perceiving him, and he's bothering to make himself noticeable to the less perceivable characters because he's getting intrigued by all the reactions.

Back in the Vitality Underground I don't think anyone there but other Gifted would notice him on their own. Anyways, I guess for the Dream II page the "By The Eyes of The Blind" example would be considered Zigzagged then? Speaking of, am I allowed to list Tropes there for Armory Knight/Vita Exosso/Etc or only the ones I've designated as "Playable Characters"?

Well, Sentinel isn't exactly "above" reality, as much as inside, around, beneath and one with it. She is a minor Cosmic Keystone, is linked to a plane "beneath" reality that serves as both an afterlife and my verse's Akashic Records, and her magic comes from minor tears in the metaphysical tapestry.

She is however below average in seeing beyond reality for a ambiguously divine being (note that she never called herself a goddess). I only made her see the being directly instead of catching unclear glimpses of it because everyone else could see it.

The spirit that appeared before is watching it however, and it is curious.

I'm not an expert, but I think you're allowed to list tropes for pretty much anything that happens in the thread. Some of them are about the setting itself and don't even mention any characters, for example.

Incidentally, Collen, like I said earlier, since Mazra and Seilaan are in a separate dreamscape (sorta) right now, you probably won't need to worry about when I post for the immediate future.

Regarding Graveyard group: I agree - seems everyone present has a heightened ability to perceive such supernatural beings. If anything, the people there who should be least capable of such are Sinistrina, Friedrich, and possibly Caleb... but since Friedrich was able to see the Sentinel's spirit, I imagined the Golden Being would be a similar case. And since Sinistrina created Friedrich, that would imply she has similar abilities as well. Or not... I might edit my post to have her will-o-wisps target the Knight itself, provided Kkutwar didn't post yet. Speaking of Kkutwar, I agree with Corvidae - there's nothing stopping you from adding tropes about characters other than your own, as long as you're sure you know enough about them to do so. I've been adding a couple of tropes for your characters myself, plus Gabe in that same thread and Nrjxll's characters in Frontier (Iraal and Scents weren't listed at all on that trope list, so I decided they needed some attention). The reasoning is that the owners of the characters can correct those entries later - as KC did when I added the See You in Hell / You Are Worth Hell trope to Dream II's list regarding Gabe.

I added a set of elevators going between the middle three floors right near the observation deck, and also added more rooms to the hotel floor. I think we can assume that all the "small" rooms are big enough for 2-3 or so, the same size they were in Frontier; the suites can have multiple rooms and hold larger groups. And yes, I made Room 13 special because why not.

By the way, I can't open the Markup Help, but I wanted to give him special font- Is that possible? Regarding the tropes though, I did have to ask: Noire Blanc is meant to be Guro Lolita, so is Elegant Gothic Lolita accurate to use for tropifying that?
