I wrote Common Character Classes. It's about the classes, not about the roles. Please read the page rather than skimming it. Fantasy Character Classes was cutlisted at one point — I'm not sure why it even still exists.
Anyway, like I said before, Common Character Classes is about the attributes and abilities of the classes. A warrior is a Mighty Glacier-leaning Jack of All Stats who engages in direct combat with the enemy. In terms of combat role, they could be a tank or DPS. A rogue is quick, Fragile Speedster-y, and can also either tank ("avoidance tank" style) or DPS. There's some overlap between the two pages, yes, but it's not identical, and I don't think it's lumpable.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. In this case, "attributes and abilities" is pretty much the same thing as the roles. The healer has the ability to heal, so his role is healing. The fighter has the ability to fight, so his role is fighting. Same thing.
We don't need four different pages on the same thing. Merge them all.

Except that, as I said in my last post, "what you are" and "what you do" are not the same thing. A warrior class could be either tank or DPS. A rogue class could be tank (avoidance tank), DPS, or debuffer (stealing equipment, dropping traps). A support class could be a healer, a buffer, a debuffer, or a mezzer. A ranger is pretty much always going to be DPS, but the reverse is not true (not all DPS characters are rangers). The only thing that crosses directly between Common Character Classes and An Adventurer Is You is the nuker — and I'd argue that "nuker" on An Adventurer Is You should actually a subtype of DPS rather than its own archetype.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. The analogy I gave last time is that one is a skill set, the other is a job description.
Fight smart, not fair. Can the Crowner be called?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I think it can, can a mod make it official?
Russell... likes to hurt people... for PEACE.Both positive options have the same ratio, but one is leading in terms of vote differential, so calling in favor of that one. The other can be used as a redirect.
I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.I wrote up Sandbox.Standard RPG Combat Roles. Let me know what you think.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I think you did a good job on the sandbox description for Standard RPG Combat Roles, especially in how you covered most everything relatively succinctly. The only thing that I think might be worth adding is something like "it is worth noting that this is a simplified account of character roles in RPGs, characters may actually be a hybrid of two or three of these roles or may be capable of being either a Tank, Healer, or DPS depending on the situation."
That might be obvious enough that it need not be noted on the page though.

"irhgT nm0w tehre might b ea lotof th1nmgs i dont udarstannd, ubt oim ujst goinjg to keepfollowing this pazth i belieove iN !!!!!1 dI may have missed something, but is there a reason we're not covering the status effect guys (buffer, debuffer, mezzer)? They can and do exist as separate classes in some games. Especially since the pure form of debuffer and mezzer isn't covered by any other article (White Mage covers buffer, but Black Mage has to have offensive magic to qualify).
If it doesn't go on this page anymore, maybe it needs YKTT Wed?

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Hey, this thread. I'd completely forgotten about this.
On the subject of buffer/debuffer/mezzer, etc, my instinct is to leave them out, as they're not one of the core three roles that show up in virtually every MMORPG. It might be worth adding a fourth "miscellaneous" role that mentions those sorts of things, but I don't think it's worth giving them their own sections.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. Those roles don't just show up in MMORP Gs, though. Unless it's specifically MMO-focused, shouldn't it also consider other genres that use those core classes, such as Strategy RP Gs?
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Hm, I suppose you're right; I'd been focusing entirely on the MMORPG angle, and the article isn't actually specific to that. Is there a good name for that role, or should we just call it "support" or "miscellaneous" or something like that?
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I don't think there is a name that's widely accepted. Support works for me, and list all three in one.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Updated sandbox page at Sandbox.Standard RPG Combat Roles. Could use some help in filling in examples.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.Added some. It may need a YKTTW trip.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.What's the status here?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerAny progress here?
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.OK, well, my opinion is that limiting it to tank/dps/healer/support is so broad that it makes the trope useless, in a People Sit On Chairs meaning of the word, and that's why there hasn't been any progress.
If this isn't going to sit here interminably, you could...
- Just close this topic and let the trope be, it may be sloppy but it's not causing enough problems to be worth the effort of trying to prevent them.
- Rename the trope to Standard RPG Combat Roles and leave the page itself as it currently is. (This one is my preferred choice)
- Rename the trope to Standard RPG Combat Roles, paste in the sandboxed page Native Jovian has, and list it on Needs Wiki Magic Love.
I'm OK for a rename. As for the rest, I dunno...
In a different note, it's that me or the MP Master is never used ? I've used CTRL + F, and there no hint of this role present in the exemples.
Meh, no interest here.

The point is that Common Character Classes is also about roles. Please read the page, rather than just the title.
Actually, Fantasy Character Classes is also about roles. They may use the term "fighter" but they describe it as the role of "stabbing stuff while absorbing damage in melee". Yes, there is a pretty big overlap here.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!
