I have noticed a lot of issues in this game regarding targeting, especially, when I'm at the top of the cliff ans there are enemies below. Trying to move anywhere on the cliff will instead target the enemies below(behind? stupid perspective!) the cliff, causing the character to do something not what I intended.

I can't figure out how to play or build an Outlander.

I spec for strength for damage, but then can't use any decent weapons due to lack of dexterity, or I spec for dex, and get decent weapons that deal crap damage because my strength blows. What to do?

Spec both. Outlanders are the resident Glass Cannon / Fragile Speedster.

That's the thing though, it seems like everyone but the engineer is a glass cannon. The engineer is the only one who can sit still for a sec in the middle of a fight without worrying about being instagibbed by something.

The berserker mitigates a lot of that by being able to heal himself like woah, but he's still fairly squishy.

Yeah. I refuse to build glass cannons. Does that mean I'm stuck with the Engineer?

Thinking about speccing my Outlander for Focus and Vitality. Using wands for damage. I think it could make a tougher Outlander?

Not always. We have Tanklander, Tankzerker and Tankmage builds out there (hint: they're the ones with shields) and I've had my first serious Engineer instagibbed several times even on Veteran. Any class can stand and soak damage with enough damage reduction and resist stacking below Elite while on Elite even the mighty Tankgineer can get one-shotted on a bad day.

Sure the Engineer gets the best survivability passives but as you climb the ladder the passives start to matter less and less. There are spell scrolls to plug almost every hole in your defenses.

For an Outlander, at least my main damage comes from outrageous criticals. My lvl 60 has Str/Foc/Vit all right around 100-120 with bonuses, while my Dex is almost 300. My crit chance, however, is at a nice 45%, and both of my weapons have socket items with +critdamage% in them. My regular hits are doing 300-500 damage, while my crits are typically doing 1400-2000 damage, and my glaive throws crit at 6k+.

I haven't tried building anyone else yet, I at least want to get through the NG+ once.

In the Mapworks, what bonuses do most people buy? I found myself grabbing all of the extra gold maps to pay for max/re-enchanting all of my gear.

[up]Don't worry, I'm not much ahead of you. I'm somewhere near level 20. I have a lizard-thing called Drumstick.

(Oh, and I'm also a berserker)

Level 12 Embermage. With a hawk. The only skills I've put points in are Magma Spear and Charge Mastery though (because we don't have a real respec system).

Finally got Shocking Orb, and I love it. It reminds me a bit of Diablo II's sorc's ice orb, except not as OP, and much more spammable.

Finally realized why the official forum has so many complaints about the Black Tar challenge. 8 GB of RAM and a dedicated video card are no match for the hundreds of black slimes that eventually fill the screen and the targeting issues are exacerbated on a ranged character. 9 deaths of which more than half were due to the wonky hitboxes and in the end I failed the challenge. On the plus side, I did learn how to Rune Vault more effectively.

black tar challenge? is that the phase beast portal with the 3 boss slimes that spit out smaller slimes and split into smaller slimes when killed?

Yep, that's the one. Wasn't a problem on my 2H Engineer but I didn't get my pistol Outlander any Ao E besides Rune Vault and Rapid Fire due to rushing RF for the tier II bonus. Probably would have been easier with the early Glaive but I'm currently building single Skillgroup characters.

For my part, I got one phasebeast challenge that appeared somewhat easy at the start:kill the troll.

And then I realized the floor was made of swamp fire vents. Which could and did instagib me (and nothing else).

The wort part? They didn't shut off after the troll was dead, and killed me while I was looting the chests.

Hmm... looking through the patch, I wonder if they did fix the gambling exploit, although that ability was kinda cool.

I now go by Graf von Tirol.

Not much of a fix. You can still ballpark the actual value of an item by how much it costs just like in TL 1. Only thing that's harder to do after this patch is picking out class-locked uniques.

Bump. Decided to start playing 'pure' (i.e. single skillgroup) characters and I'm having a lot more fun without the possibility of accidentally gimping myself through poor cross-speccing. Probably helps that I'm quite a bit more familiar with what to build than when I had that ill-fated hybrid 2H Engineer.
