Right now Odd Couple's discription is defined as Main character only and any non main characters are Odd Friendship however the examples do not seem to cover that Odd Couple seems to be very close friends/Heterosexual Life-Partners while Odd Friendship seems to be those just friends.

There seem to be a lot of tropes about this sort of relationship. Maybe we should merge/delete some of them.

I reject your requirement for a witty statement or fanboyish squealing in my signature.

If we decide to keep only one of them, I think Odd Couple is a better title for it, it's a more common phrase.

I would oppose the word couple being in the title. It implies romance.

[up] that's because shippers will ship anything. Any time there's only two characters, people imply a romantic relationship.

"Odd couple", in the pop-culture context, has no romantic overtones. The term was originally popularised by Neil Simon's play — which became a hit movie and then a TV series — of the same name. The couple in question were two extremely heterosexual men. :)

Bump. I support a merge of the two tropes.

Theoretically yes, but that sounds like The Same But More.

Voting for a complete merger(preferably with Odd Friendship's page image - dawwwwwwwww.....).

[up][up] Not really the former are usually the stars of their show or extremely close maybe a Buddy Cop Show or stuff of that nature while friendship is just friends.

Boku Wa Tomodachi Ga Sukunai (I Don't Have Many Friends) is a whole show about Odd Friendship s as the entire cast is one, no Odd Couple is in it.

I very much disagree with merge but if we must then Odd Couple should be the main name.

I think that an Odd Friendship is when the characters are together by choice. Otherwise it will fit into another trope so the Odd Couple can be a list of Duo Tropes that strongly contrast each other since many Duo Tropes are a contrast but many are not.

Bump, and vote for a merge. All the distinctions people have mentioned are much too fine and would require constant policing. Can we get a crowner for that?

[up] Problem is who says An Odd Friendship has to be a Duo though? Hell there is a series based on a big group that is entirely made up of an Odd Friendship as a whole.

Changing my posiition a bit an Odd Couple is a Duo trope like Buddy Cop Shows etc. a series staring an odd couple like Red Oni, Blue Oni, Light Masculine and Dark Masculine, Light Feminine and Dark Feminine, Girly Girl And Tomboy etc. Two Broke Girls, Tiger And Bunny, The Odd Couple, first two seasons of Precure (the last two start out as this but expand after 20 episodes.), etc. While IMO a distinction should be made from the really close ones and just friends it's hard to measure.

[up]The trope description, at the moment. That would be a *big* change.

I'm going to have to go with Raso on this. Odd Couple is, or should be, like a They Fight Crime! sort of thing. And odd pair who are the stars of the show. Odd Friendship is just when any character makes friends with another character who it doesn't seem like they would be friends with normally. An Odd Couple with often develop an Odd Friendship, but not every Odd Friendship is an Odd Couple.

Odd Couple: really Odd very close friends/Heterosexual Life Partners qualifying for the word "couple". (people like the trope namer)
The phrase "couple" is typically associated with romantic contexts, though.

But the phrase "Odd Couple" isn't.

I don't feel it is, but I could go for a rename, just not a merge.

Yeah, I've never seen it in the romantic sense. Odd Pairing might work, but that kind of sounds like a Shipping trope. Perhaps Odd Pair?
