I'm in the "Sonic Adventure 2's plot is in-retrospect So Bad, It's Good" category. The whole thing is hilarious.

Colors was the product of Sega hiring a writing team that has officially stated to have hardly any familiarity with Sonic period, and then instructing them to make a story as shallowly simple as they possibly could, leading to several meaningless attempts at suspense (Oh hi possessed Tails. Goodbye possessed Tails) and dozens of just generally dumb lines ("I'll just call them 'aliens' if that's okay with everybody." Okay Sanic, you go do that) all around. All it does is replace narm with intentional stupidity.

To me Sonic Colors played off like it KNEW it was a simplistic saturday morning cartoon and ran with it. it was enjoyably cheesy. it may have only been my impression, but that's what i got out of it.

regardless of the circumstances, i still prefer colors' plot over anything sega did from adventure to sonic 06.

[up][up][up]The new Writers didn't make the story for Colors or Generations. They were just writing around what was already there.

It wasn't until Lost World until they actually had control over the actual story they were writing for.

Ah, forgot about that. Something about them being given a basic outline of how the story was going to play out?

Still irrationally pointing fingers at them for the dialogue, though.

The big thing I really liked about the Adventure games' writing that I'm really disappointed isn't coming back any time soon is Knuckles' characterization.

Though it'd be really funny if they brought Chuckles back.

Knuckles was good.

If only Tails was that good.

Chuckles lasted until Sonic Pocket Adventure...personality wise.

I miss Sonic Shuffle's worldbuilding and especially that version of Amy.

While Cream the Rabbit isn't a bad character, I feel her presence restricts the more thoughtful, caring side of Amy that we saw in Adventure 1, 2, and Shuffle. The Amy that protected Birdie and reasoned with Gamma, the Amy that said we can live each day because we have dreams, no matter how small they are, and the Amy that reasoned with Shadow to save the world—I feel like such roles would be given to Cream nowadays.

Adventure 2's story fleshes out Eggman very well and makes the series a lot darker if you consider the real-world parallels (The Cold War). Also it's all Mc Carthy's fault.

[up](x4)No they wouldn't.

Cream's personality is "Sweet & Innocent" with a chance of snark(its not very often), that's not exactly close Amy's energetic, spunky (I guess), but really caring personality.

[up] It's blinding, I tell ya!

Yeah, I honestly loved Adventure 1 through 06's plots. They were fairly funny and dark. Made me interested in the series quite a bit. Unleashed isn't bad at all, either, plot-wise. I just wish I could finish through the game to really get into the plot, same with Colors, and I can't say much about Generations, as the 3DS version's plot was severely lowered by the major lack of cutscenes.

So Scykoh is seriously kicking Sonic 06's ass. He just finished Crisis City and has yet to get a Game Over. The closest he came was during the first half of White Acropolis since the snowboarding didn't work at all like he thought it would. He also managed to complete Crisis City's Mach Speed section on his second try. He would have gotten it on his first but he got shanked by a thrown car he had all of no time to react to.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!

Yeah, I found the Snowboarding section even more difficult than the Mach Speed sections(the different camera angle doesn't help). Also, imo, the Crisis City Mach Speed section is the easiest(that I've found, despite the camera angles, it seems to have less stuff to dodge overall). I've almost completed it.(I'm really bad at the sections, and never beat a single one. But they are that difficult)

I'm pretty sure you've mentioned this before (in the exact same way), but like I said back then...

It seems like Amy's current personality is dialing her back to her older self, or at least, making it less like she's only around to pursue/annoy Sonic, with a mindset that indicates that she only has Sonic on the brain. It's pretty evident in Lost World, where she's more worried about the animals and everything else that's going on around her rather than worrying solely about Sonic. And even with her flanderized personality, she still had hints of her caring side in her other appearances, it just wasn't as focused.

In any case, Sonic Team has had an aversion to utilizing Sonic's bigger cast, which is something I hope they fix in a later game, so it's not like you'll see Cream in such a role that you're describing. And they'd more than likely go for Amy even if Cream was still relevant.

The fact that Sonic Boom is going back to allowing a larger cast (in general, not just playable) is a big plus for me, even if it's just a spin-off.

As far as the last page is concerned, I prefer the variety of characters the Adventure games brought forth to just playing as Sonic (yes, even Big's sections). I love Sonic, and I started with the first Genesis game way back when it came out, but I also love his friends and would like them to have bigger roles like they used to. Unleashed Day Stages, Colors, and Lost World were fun and all, but grew monotonous to me after a while (though Colors and Lost World fared a bit better by reintroducing more platforming elements to the series). Not helping matters was the lingering thought that Sonic's friends could've just been used instead of forcing Sonic to become more of an everyman, particularly in Unleashed (the Wisps and the physics of the Lost World make up for this thought in their respective games).

But hey, that's just me. I've been fine with every Sonic game SEGA's released up till now (except for Sonic Chronicles, and even then, I mainly hate that for its lack of polish, making it feel like an Obvious Beta; I dreaded playing the game so much that I couldn't enjoy the story it was trying to present), so I doubt I'll be disappointed with whatever they come up with next.

The fangame Sonic World is doing just that. And get this: it has more playable characters than even Adventure.

But I'd also like to say that I'm glad more people are starting to recognize the sore point of alternate gameplay and why it has been damaging to the series' reputation.

My only problem with Alternate gameplay is that it just wasn't very good or polished for what it tried to do. If it was actually decent to play, I don't think there'd be as much complaining about it.

[up][up] I only felt that way on Big's section, and the Adventure 1 Treasure Hunting(save the Radar, of course). The rest felt practically the same as the other guys in Adventure 2 and 1. All pretty good overall. Although Heroes worked fine for everyone, Shadow's game was fine too, and 06's had some bad moments(although those are from the glitches alone). Sonic was fairly mediocre to control in 06 in general, and horrid in the Mach Speed sections. Shadow worked fine, as did just about everyone else to varying degrees. Nobody was downright awful on their own. Just those damn glitches screwing it up.

[up] Couldn't disagree more. That's just a waste of time to me. They're fine when grouped with the regular games, honestly. I don't like the newer games because it's one sole way to play throughout. It bores me. The different variation is what makes it really fun to me. If I get bored with one section, I'll play another. It's why Adventure 2 is one of my top favorite Sonic games of all time.

Our war over whether alternate gameplay is good or bad will never end, huh Irene?

In all seriousness, Treasure Hunting is actually a good base for the long-missed explorational 3D platformer. The problem with it is that it's so unpolished that it needs a radar. If it were more polished and expanded upon to the level of Banjo Kazooie or Spyro The Dragon (games which don't need radars despite the exploration), it would make an awesome game.

Also, if I'm bored with one game, I would just play another game.

Like, treasure hunting isn't bad on paper, they just made the radar a piece of shit in Adventure 2, even though there was nothing wrong with it in Adventure 1. Being able to find any emerald in any order made it much less of a headache.

Gamma controls far better than the mechs do, which I find very clunky and awkward to control, especially in platforming sections of those stages.

Big is just shit, should have been a minigame.

I don't get how Sonic Adeventure 2 took something that was decent, and just crapped all over it. I always dreated playing Tails/Eggman, and Knuckles/Rouge's stages because of it.

In order for a new spin-off to work, it'd need more than one character overall(playable or otherwise. Even Shadow had its appeal with the tons of story, narm, and multiple characters), and a story. Otherwise, there's no point in trying to sell it. Sonic has not done much for people without more than one character as is, a story, and some neat gameplay. It all has mattered overall.

So I feel it's a waste of time to make a spin-off unless it goes all out. We have a lot of characters that could work in Treasure Hunting, but the Adventure 2 multiplayer choices are easily the best candidates. Knuckles, Rouge, Chaos Zero, and Tikal. As for who else could work, you'd have to search around the various media. Nack/Fang might somewhat work, since he's a thief and all(and could even be one of the antagonists). Even if the story was kind of shallow, it'd need to be there to justify paying any real money for it. A simple "play stages over and over" game isn't going to be appealing enough for a big price. Might as well make it a flash game or sell it online for free or really damn cheap(like 10 dollars). A big pricey game won't work on gameplay alone, that's for sure. You might as well just look at romhacks. The charm from every piece of the game is what makes it worthwhile to most people in the end.

On the other hand, after what happened with Shadow(I may have loved the game, but still, it didn't work out all too well. The controls were nearly perfect in the end, but some of the other stuff just didn't appeal. The guns did not, no matter how good they controlled, and the vehicles were pretty awful for the most part), the idea of another spin-off based upon one specific type of gameplay is very unlikely for Sega to bother pouring money into when they don't see it market-worthy. Keeping it among the regular games gives it a better chance of working. That way the games will still sell, and people will like whatever bit they like.
