The opposite of HijackedByJesus

Has anyone considered that, instead of modifying a pagan mythology into an abrahamic one, one could change the abrahamic mythology into becoming similar to the average (indo-european) pagan mythology?

For starters, the destruction of the distinction of supernatural divinity from supernatural non-divinity. In abrahamic mythology, with the exception of the Old Testament and similarly older texts (in which the existence of other gods is implied), it is consistently stressed Yahweh is the only true "God" (however you define "God") and everyone else with superpowers is an "angel" and/or "demon". In most other mythologies, such distinction isn't usually made (Zoroastrianism aside), and almost everyone is equal in power. Thus, Yahweh is merely the leader of the gods, and if the "angels" serve him is not because they are inherently inferior, at least not by much. Demons can be considered mythological chaotic beasts like Typhon or Fenrir, but the fallen angels are still gods.

Second, no obvious Black And White morality. There can be a division between the gods/angels, two factions fighting against each other, but at best it is either a case of Black-and-Grey Morality or Grey-and-Gray Morality. Ideally, however, there's no factions, just gods/angels wandering around doing their business.

Any more ideas?

I feel like this has been done before.

In The Sandman, God Is Good and above all other gods. While Lucifer is an Anti-Hero, he often is on regular Christianity.

Thus, The Sandman is just Xianity+other mythologies.

I've seen plenty of attempts to deconstruct an Abrahamic God as Black-and-White Morality:

• Hellblazer, as mentioned.
• In Family Guy, there was a scene where God and Satan are drinking buddies. I think God ends up killing someone by accident.
• Angel Sanctuary.
• Lucy The Daughter Of The Devil.

But not a full deconstruction of biblical theology => neopagan theology.

Thoughts you could explore:

• There are more than two factions. God and Satan are merely leaders of the two most powerful or even just the two most well known factions.
  • If so, who is The Empire, The Federation, The Kingdom, The Syndicate, La Résistance, the Corrupt Corporate Executive?
• At least part of the Abrahamic tradition is still valid From a Certain Point of View.
• Maybe there are factions that would not make sense from a purely human point of view, Fantastic Racism, Five Races (angels & demons are just two), etc.

The addition of the old canaanite gods like Ba'al would probably work nicely indeed.
