my newest RP, and one which I spent a lot of time designing. Also exists on Fanfiction Dot Net's Roleplays Rock forum.

The realm of Andalia is in turmoil.

Well, that is the Understatement of the Year.

As the nightmarish demon army advance on the lands, the once quarreling nobles are forced into a tenuous alliance.

This demonic onslaught is led by the fearsome Tabarach and his elite servants.

In the face of this destructive threat, the Clerics of the Faith imbued some of their holy magic into the swords of certain knights. These holy knights, now called Crusaders soon made up the back bone of the resistance against the demonic threat.

However, every day the struggle on the front becomes more desperate.

That was when rumors of a forgotten Magical Sword, Zero Edge, came to the Kingdom. This sword had the promise of being the necessary weapon to defeat the fearsome demons.

just so you know, this is intended to be a dark deconstruction of High Fantasy.

Name: Sakkaku Yamazuki

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Species: Human

Magic: Arcane

Birth Region: Gandria

Appearance: Six feet (1.83 meters) tall; short, back hair; blue eyes; black, long sleeved shirt that goes under his gauntlets; black pants that go under his brown, leather boots; a brown, leather belt that has a second part that goes down his left leg before looping around right above his knee; he wears his dagger on his back with the hilt pointing down and to the right; a dark blue pouch that connects to his belt right above his left knee that holds his kunai; and another pouch on the back right side of his belt. Scars cover most of his body but the only one that can be seen is the one right above his right eye.

Personality: Sakkaku is cold and calculating. He doesn’t speak often but when he does it’s usually sarcastic or ironic. He also has a horde of personae he can adopt on a whim to help validate his cover stories and make him seem more normal. Like most assassins that have been around for a while, he is highly paranoid. Has recently found that he rather enjoys teasing Prince Raize and Raysa.

Weapon: A steel dagger with a five inch blade and a black hilt, twenty (20) kunai. He also knows how to use most weapons.

Bio: Sakkaku is a mid-ranking member of the Assassin’s Guild. He only accepts hits on criminals or anyone he deems “scum” and arcane mages.

He has had the ability to use arcane magic for most of his life. He relied on its power for some time until he caught a glimpse of what gave him his power. Since then, he only uses it when necessary. His problems didn’t end though.

Since it is no longer in use, the power just builds up inside Sakkaku until it reaches its breaking point. If he doesn’t discharge some of the energy, it can lead to a number of symptoms. Most common being splitting migraines and nausea.

Backstory: Sakkaku's mother died giving birth to him. For five years, Sakkaku lived with his farther blaming him for her death and being cruel to the child, especially once his magic developed. It was around then that his father dumped him off at an orphanage. There, he was teased and feared by the other children for his powers. Fed up with it all, he ran away from there and assassinated his father. Shortly thereafter, he was picked up and trained by the Assassin's Guild. He mostly trained with magic until he discovered the source of his power at the age of fifteen. Since then, he has stopped using it unless necessary and has taken it upon himself to free other mages from its grasp and to rid the world of it.

Other: He kills mages in order to release them from the abomination that gives them power. All this time he hopes that he will get killed at some point in order to release himself from it.

All of his scars came from a mission the Assassin's Guild sent him on. He and a small group of people were sent to retrieve some starsteel. The mission failed horrible as everyone other that Sakkaku was killed. He only managed to survive thanks to his magic.

It's below par for me but oh well.

Name: Raize Als Da Stormscall

Age: 18

Affiliation: Order of the Grand Shield

Bio: The son of nobility very close to the crown, the Stormscall Family, of the Northern Provinces, those most used to frigid temperatures. Raize was brought up with all the luxuries that come with a Princely life. However, as he grew older, and joined the Knights, he found that life was not a fairy tale, and this started to present a tax on him. His father is constantly worried for the state of his son, but their relationship looks chilly due to Raize wanting to stand on his own two feet.

Raize currently has a girlfriend he is wooing, and there were numerous other girls vying for his attention, but he was unwilling to commit until he met Taysa. She captured his heart. Now he is on the way to marriage with the Mage-Heir to the old rival of the northern lords, the Southern domains.

Personality: Naive, rather wise despite this, dislikes the intensive responsibility of a prince combined with a Knight Commander's duties, and this leads him to become very stressed. He can be a bit perverted. He is, nonetheless, very chivalric about it, though he might peak down a dress, he will NEVER allow anyone to touch a woman without her approval. He seems to have an intense dislike of the idea of betrayal. He is very sure of the fact that he is right about what he is doing, which is pretty much a prerequisite for his Holy Hand Grenade to have any effect. He is very dogmatic about his quest, and will no matter what fulfill his oaths, and seems willfully ignorant of the fact some oaths can only be fulfilled by breaking other oaths.

Weapon: a broadsword called Dawnbringer. It has the standard Holy Hand Grenade abilities of the Crusader weapons.

Appearance: a tall youth, somewhat effeminate features in the face, innocent blue eyes that definitely show he does not really comprehend any wrongdoings he might be doing. He wears gold and silver colored armor, the standard fair of the Grand Shield, and carries his sword across his back. He wears a His hair is bright golden, and trimmed nicely. He was rather wiry, as a child, but he has recently become much bigger and stronger. He carries himself with a certain upright, confident look that makes him seem naturally charismatic.

Name: Klementina Gregorovna Aksenov

Age: 24

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Home: Rzhev'skaa, Estolia

Magic: Arcane

Affiliation: Imperial Andalia

Appearance: a bit below six feet, pale/sickly, has a few prominent facial scars, rest of her body is similarly disfigured, dark brown hair below the shoulder when loose, typically dressed in plain steel armor with some brass accents/fittings over chain mail, perpetually bloody or blood stained

Bio: Eldest daughter of Gregor Aksenov, notorious knight occasionally in the service of the royal family. Rewarded with the title to the town of Rzhev'skaa which has more or less improved under his leadership. At the moment His Lordship is unwed, having an unfortunate tendency to go through wives at a rapid pace through no fault of his own (usually). Klementina's mother was his second wife (the first had been struck by lightening on their wedding night), who some courtiers suspected of having Shuhanian blood. Childhood in the court of Aksenov wasn't terribly easy but she seemed to weather the experience.

She inherited her father's passion for combat and when she was of age joined the Knights..... and was kicked out after a verdict against her in a murder trial several months later. Since then she's drifted between working unofficially for the crown and officially for her father, leaving an army of dead behind her. So far she seems to prefer her blade or a maul to using her powers, however several members of the Thieves' Guild could testify that they exist. If the blood hadn't been evaporated from their veins that is.

Personality: Klementina proudly carries on the Aksenov clan's tradition of being completely mad if half mad isn't good enough. If she didn't talk much, it wouldn't be very noticeable. However, whenever she speaks inevitably the listeners comes away profoundly disturbed. Unlike her father, a reserved surprisingly sane man, Klementina revels in violence and destruction to just below a church condemned level. Passionate about the law, she tends to met out punishment fairly and equally (usually death) to all who break it. Known to loathe the Thieves' and Assassins' Guilds. Loves her mother and father deeply, hates being separated from them. Not so much her younger siblings; fond of her younger sister Katyusha. Violently loyal to the throne, the church and it's clergy on the other hand tends to irritate her.

Family information: Father, Gregor Aksenov; Mother, Nellya Aksenov (second wife, deceased); Present spouse of Lord Aksenov, Georgette Aksenov (fifth wife); siblings, Katyusha Nika Pyotr Yuri Oleg Viktor Grigoriy (all deceased) Elizaveta

Weapon: a heavy steel maul or a long straight sword, various knives

Other: Always fights to the death.

Name: Gaille Keldren D'Arkan

Age: 17

Affiliation: Order of the Grand Shield

Appearance: Small (size-wise and proportionally), but thin and nimble. Strong, lean. Slender face, piercing dark-brown eyes. Hair is pinned back with a ponytail or braid, always, and light brown. Consistent serious expression, with a hidden "I need a hug" look behind that. Stands tall and strong to make up for her height, always. When she's slumping, you know it's a problem.

Bio: Grew up as a woodsy-type noble, way out of reach of the crown. The out-of-society nature of their fiefdom meant that she didn't have to deal with the sexism and learned to hunt and fight as she wished. Always had a thing for fighting. As her father was getting on in years he decided someone should carry on and become a knight, so he sent her to the palace to train. She joined the Order of the Grand Shield and latched on, desperate to prove herself despite her size.

Personality: Fiercely stubborn and loyal to everything she does. She has a bad tendency to latch on to things, but she usually puts it to good use. Constantly second-guessing herself after stepping into the more civilized world, but she hides it behind bravado and strength. She secretly wants someone to confide in, but she'd never ask for help, even if she was on the ground bleeding to death. It takes forever to even ACCEPT help that's OFFERED.

Weapon: A lighter, more nimble sword, giving up some of its strength for more flexibility. She calls it Weaver.

Other: She kind of fears magic, if only because she doesn't understand it at all. Fun fact: She has perfect pitch, and despite thinking otherwise, she loves social events like parties.

Thank you for curing me of my ridiculous obsession with love!

Name: Jarl(pronounced Yarl) Corby

Age: 35

Affiliation: Madame Scazetto's school for children

Appearance: A broken-down, bitter man, always wearing a sour expression. He wears a large flapping coat and small glasses when not engaged in combat, and carries an air of quiet, powerful anger about himself,—there's that one teacher in every school that people are scared of, and that is Corby. He on the whole resembles a very large predatory crow. He's incredibly tall and imposing, and carries his sword(which shall remain nameless) on him at all times. His armor—when he does wear it—is gray and dented, somewhat ill-fitting and patched, but still very functional armor.

Bio: Corby started out as a fresh-faced man who wanted to be a knight, one of the great stalwart warriors of the world, who slayed ninjas—the pompous dicks—and necromancers—emo twats—going on adventures, and being the model of manhood. He quickly graduated one of the few schools in Andalia and apprenticed to a knight. There he learned the tools of the trade, only to finally get his knighthood... during a time of temporary peace. He realized that he'd be of more use at his own village, and returned to the school he learned at, to become Madame Scazetto's School For Children's most feared(by the children), and respected(by the parents).

Personality: Jarl is immensely protective of his school and children. He will not hesitate to return to knighthood at a moments notice, should the need arise. Because this is an RP, it inevitably will. He hates people who apply "art" to combat, but all that means to him is people who aren't straightforward fighters, like Rogues, Assassins, Wizards, and Archers. He has a bit of an inferiority complex.

Weapon: A sword, a sword about 5 feet long, which is the swordiest sword in existence: it cuts everything that isn't a weapon or armor, it can't break, it's dull, grey, straight, and pointy, and has an end that also doesn't cut people, intended to be held. He just found it in a hole one day, realizing that it was, in fact, a sword that was so old, so extremely old, that it personified Swordiness. This sword was the first modern sword ever made, before Zero Edge, the Steel Swords, before any of that fancy-ass "innovation".

Other: He can put his armor on and off very quickly, and keeps it in a footlocker by his desk at the school.

He hates people who apply "art" to combat

Will you further explain this?

Also, his sword Just Bugs Me. I'm not sure why, but it does. Probably because a sword that has been ravaged by time for who knows how long and is not magical is supposedly unbreakable (except to weapons made from starsteel, natch) and stronger than modern day weapons. That just doesn't seem plausible in the slightest.

It's got a vaguely abstract form of magic: It will always be the purest form of sword in existence. It can't do anything special, and sure, it's probably not actually the best sword ever, it's a very old, pretty good sword. The other thing is that it's not even the best sword. Magic swords, swords balanced to strike faster, big swords, etc. The fact that it wasn't ravaged by time I just put in to show that it's dependable: it's beat up like hell, and Jarl's had to replace parts over time, and had to get it worked on when he found it. I maybe should rephrase the unbreakability: Only other weapons can break it. It won't break in a freak accident.

And Jarl just sort of hates people who don't fight wearing armor with swords, like an orthodox medieval knight.

Have you played Mage The Awakening before? That's like my favorite magic ever and the sort of magic pervading Jarl's Sword. It's nameless on purpose, because a name is not very swordy.
