YMMV / The Dark Lords of Nerima

Go To

"Your Mileage May Vary" entries for the Ranma ½ / Sailor Moon crossover The Dark Lords of Nerima and its sequels.

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Did Nabiki really want Beneda to tell the truth, or was she just saving face?
  • Fanon: The Other Wiki contains names and backstories not present in the fanfic.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • At first Kasumi not telling Ranma about the talking cat seems like the Idiot Ball being grabbed. However, given that she knows about his fears, a talking cat is relatively minor given Nerima's reputation and Luna promised not to let Ranma see her, it wasn’t something to be too worried about.
    • Ranma’s conversation with the Matriarch makes a lot of sense when one considers that he's a 'do unto others' kind of guy, despite Fanon's interpretation of him as an Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy. The Matriarch spoke to Ranma with respect, so he treated her in kind.
    • Beneda not investing in some waterproof soap seems confusing at first until it is mentioned that she got used to the Nerima mindset. Given what the denizens of the ward see on a regular basis, having her monstrous form accidentally revealed wouldn't be too big a shock for most of the people she encounters day to day.
  • Moral Event Horizon: It could be argued that Tanizaki has crossed this MANY times already, but he DEFINITELY crosses it when he delivers a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on a defiant Genma for ruining his plans to kill Ranma and crew, and outright KILLS him by snapping his neck.
  • One True Threesome: There is no Word of God given Claymade’s underlying policy against giving out specific spoilers. However, given Akane and Shampoo’s Odd Friendship this seems to be the most likely pairing between the three. Chapter nineteen of Ascendant sees Akane officially ask Shampoo to give this a try, which she tearfully agrees to.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: The Dark Lords Strike Back bring many comparisons to the Greco-Persian Wars, given that it is a David Versus Goliath story where an army built from the various clans of the Qinghai Province--many of which hate each other—defeat the Awesome, but Impractical mass forces of the Dark Kingdom through superior tactics.
