YMMV / One Helluva Broken Day

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Was SCP-173 actually trying to kill Moxxie in the locker room? SCP-049 did say they were under his protection (for the time being, at least), and 173 does seem to get a kick out of scaring people he can't actually kill.
  • Complete Monster: SCP-106, better known as the Old Man, remains just as vile as his canon counterpart. Chucking several foundation agents into his Pocket Dimension, SCP-106 abducts Cletus, Collin, and Keenie as SCP-001 arrives. Forcing the Cherubs to starve, thirst, and go insane as they trudge through his dimension, 106 appears to jam his thumbs into Cletus' eye sockets, telling his victims to keep crying so that the forces of heaven come for them and "the real fun can start".
  • Funny Moments: Even in the far darker Foundationverse, Hazbin's trademark Black Comedy still pops up now and again.
    • Justin's only reaction to literal demons from Hell appearing from thin air and falling on top of his bed (other then semi-sarcastically thanking Loona for landing rump-first on his face) is to just play dead and quietly badger them to go away so he can go back to sleep. And when it happens again with Octavia when she and Stolas teleport to the facility in Chapter 5. His only response is a very vulgar Shout-Out.
Justin: ...If I had a quarter for every time I woke up with an ass in my face, I'd have two quarters. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice.
    • SCP-1879-2 confronts Lucifer in his home to deliver a sales pitch, doing his best Stan impression. In a small fraction of the chapter, he casually shrugs off being thrown out a window between giving slick-tongued sales pitches to Lucifer and actually manages to maneuver Lucifer into a Deal with the Devil...where 1879-2 is The Devil in the equation.
    • Even SCP-049 finds Stolas's graphic flirting with Blitzo and general perversion gross, and gives the demon prince an incredibly scathing burn after getting sick of it.
049: I'm sorry, I didn't wish to interrupt the no doubt absolutely revolting sexual fantasies you were having while you drooled like a lovesick fool in front of your daughter.
    • Lucifer is such a grumpy old man that he hates SCP-999 just because it makes people (himself included) happy.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Loona, Moxxie, Millie and Octavia all take a moment in chapter 9 to comfort Justin when he almost suffers a breakdown over the loss of his sister and niece, one of the first signs they're beginning to warm up to him.
    • Chapter 14 has Alastor go of his way to scare Valentino into not touching Angel by tricking him into thinking he'll incur Lucifer's wrath for harming one of his daughter's patients. Seemingly for no other reason then because he disapproves of the Pimp's abusive attitude.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Blitzo is this even more then his canon portrayal. He remains a spiteful, immature, unrepentant hitman and is unnecessarily hostile to Justin for things that aren't his fault. but over the course of the story it's hard not to feel bad for him as he's subjected to a Trauma Conga Line, first nearly helplessly watching Loona die to the effects of SCP-012, then learns that SCP-001 has completely ruined the business he spent years building, and unbeknownst to him, his lover Stolas becomes a SCP-008 instance, right after their relationship had dramatically improved.
Blitzo: It's finished. I.M.P is done. (...) I fucked up Loona. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. You were right. I'm a shitty dad.
  • Magnificent Bastard: SCP-1879-2 is the mysterious salesman put in charge of evacuating SCPs to hell. Appearing at Lucifers door and coming back after being thrown out the window, 1879-2 uses his hammy persona, the promise of a powerful monster under his command, and Lilith hurrying Lucifer to secure the sale. Successfully finishing what he claims to be the biggest sale of his career, 1879-2 departs right before the Devil himself realizes that he's been had.
  • Stoic Woobie: Justin. While he remains professional and goal-oriented, it's clear the trauma of everything he's lost to SCP-001 is still eating away at him on the inside.
