YMMV / LBX: Little Battlers eXperience

• Adorkable: Hiro is shy, funny, is an otaku, and nevertheless an adorable teen who wants to be a Super Hero.
• Aluminium Christmas Trees: The fact that Toujou Rikuya is getting special protection, not just for housing a MacGuffin in his LBX but for being the prime minister's son. Real Life countries with mandatory military service will sometimes allow a whole platoon an easier time if the sons of politicians are conjugated in them, earning the term "white horse platoon."
• Anti-Climax Boss: Subverted. The Akihabara Kingdom Tournament Arc is the only time our heroes have to beat a defending champion. They do it by the first commercial break, though its one of hardest fights they have to face because of Apollo Kaiser's Superpower Lottery.
  • Hades is this when you first play the game. His attacks are slow and easy to avoid despite being a major threat in the anime, and his spheres hardly pose a threat to the player. But god help you if you're battling him in New Game Plus as an extremely underpowered Fenrir or on the Ranking Battle in your first time, as he's way stronger in the latter case.
• Awesome Music:
  • Great Future War, the game's theme song. And One Dream, the anime's opening.
  • Danball Senki Boost's opening theme, Fighting Pose is even more action packed and while the localization removes the Japanese lyrics, the instrumentals are still a banger.
  • For Danball Senki W, there's the 3rd opening for the anime, 2 Spirits, and the game's opening, Legend.
• Base-Breaking Character: Ryuu/Gabe is either seen to the fans as a funny, bumbling, and yet Adorkable friend to the other main characters, an annoying Stalker with a Crush who’s trying too hard to get with Ami while being a Jerkass to his other friends while also being a major coward and a horrible LBX player, or an example of a wasted character alongside Mika that could have contributed more to the core trio and improved enough to be a worthy ally.
  • Alferdo Gardyne (Alfred Gordon): Fans either see him as one of the best villains in the series, or a Big Bad who doesn’t stand up to Kaidou’s greatness and Manipulative Bastard standards, not helped by being upsered .
• Broken Base: The international issues overall have received a mix reception for the past six years. To be more specific....
  • The announcement of the dub. Many were glad that a Level-5 series would be released into America, but others feared that the game’s uniqueness would be off putting to Americans, and the anime might be censored considering how dark the franchise can get.
  • When the dub was released and finished, fans of both sides found out that the series was being abridged from 44 episodes to 26 episodes with scenes, events, and plotlines altered and removed albeit telling the same story. There are three camps: one group who witnessed it for the first time enjoyed the series overall for the first time mostly due to the acting and the plot, a second group who felt the anime should’ve never been abridged in the first place since there are animes with darker events on tv, and a third camp that are fine with the dub, but wish that the reducing the number of episodes wasn’t necessary or hope for an uncut dub. A fourth group also enjoyed that scenes that felt too much like filler were removed altogether.
  • Nintendo’s marketing with the game. Though they did a fair amount of marketing, it was nowhere near the efforts of other games Nintendo was releasing at the time, and many fans believed that Nintendo should’ve advertised the game more since it was mostly the fans and the voice actors supporting the game. Even some reviewers agreed.
• Creepy Awesome: Yuuya under the Innovator’s control. He’s dangerous, powerful, and mentally broken while not short of awesome with his LBX.
  • Hades, a virtual demonic LBX named after the Greek god of the underworld that can kick Odin and Hunter’s butt without breaking a sweat.
• Crosses the Line Twice: Otacross in W. An important download relies entirely on his hacking skill to fend off a cyberattack, up until he realizes he's spent, and can only recover with... the power of Moe. And the two girls on the team won't touch that one with a 10-mile Sparkbload, so Otacross busts out his own virtual girls modeled perfectly on the real ones to cheer for him. Ooookay. Getting creepy there...
• Ensemble Dark Horse: Mika, see They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character
  • Yuusuke/Damon was loved by many to the point that his death crushed the majority of the fanbase.
  • The Otaku Rangers are very loved from both sides of the ocean, especially due to their idiotic tendencies, Sentai references, and for half of them falling under Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass.
• Fan Nickname: Cardboard Gundam as "Danball Senki" means "Cardboard war chronicle".
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Not only does Kazuya share the hairstyle of Irvine Kinneas, he also has a hangup over a sniper mission during a parade!
  • Homestar Runner fans will get a laugh out of the Middle East LBX team, the Al-Shaheen brothers for totally different reasons.
  • The show features Otaku Rangers on Creator/Nicktoons, the same time as when Creator/Nickelodeon received an certain American based sentai franchise.
• Ho Yay: Considering its sister series was infamous for it, there’s no surprised there are a ton of moments, ranging from Hanzou and Daiki to Ban and Jin several times.
• Memetic Mutation: There's a lot.
  • Canonically, Jin calls Ban "Ban-kun" but tends to trail off on the "-un". In fandom, this gets rendered as "Bank!"
  • Many refer to the LBX as “Mini Gundams”, Chibi Robo Expies
  • Hanz/Gouda is referred to as Kamina’s grandson.
• Moment of Awesome: The entire series revolves around 13 year olds with 6 inch robots that save the world from crime syndicates and terrorists with everything being taken as Serious Business. These are Level-5 series’ specialty.
  • Hakai-OZ has Chainsaw swords as WEAPONS!
• Moral Event Horizon: Seredy Kleisler and Ayabe in Wars has crossed it when (non-lethally) gassing students whose LBX were destroyed during War Time.
• Narm: The anime; granted it's for kids, but there are some points that tend to be pretty funny when they aren't supposed to be.
• Narm Charm: Fans were drawn into the fact that there are 6 inch robots that are capable of saving the world, hacking, customizations, insane Serious Business and unique plot.
• Pragmatic Adaptation: While the games are great by many, the anime expands on more concepts, battles, and events of the game while keeping the anime. For example when Amy gets Pandora in the games, Yuusuke/Damon just offers it to her since she deserved it just by figuring out the secret to the Mysterious Protector before being attacked by the NDR. However in the anime after she solves the mystery, the NDR attack and Pandora gets severely damaged, which gives Damon the idea to let her use Pandora and with Kaz’s help, Pandora is able to defeat the NDR’s LBX.
  • W also added the BC Extra Cosplay Tournament in between the Brinton and Camberlin arcs when you have to finish the game before the tournament is accessible.
• Strawman Has a Point: Danball Senki Wars. Regardless of how the kids feel about fighting on behalf of real world leaders, the fact remains that there are no more casualties of war this way.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Many fans feel this way about Mika as she was a Perky Goth and a Gloomy Goth, a funny Deadpan Snarker, a capable LBX battler, and her crush on Hanz, but ends up being releagated to a side character without much more development.
• Superlative Dubbing: Many agree that the voice acting for the dub is good especially with the emotional scenes, as the Japanese version tended to act Narmy during these moments.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: In W, Kirito is the first to discover that the supposed Big Bad, the head of Omega Dyne, has been murdered. No attempt is made by the Man Behind the Man to frame Kirito for it.
  • Hands up everyone who REALLY wanted a "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue for the first two seasons' guys at the end of Wars.
    • An OVA for the end of WARS did alleviate the feeling, but the fact that only Ban's fate is known still brought some ire from those who wanted to know the fate of the other cast (worth noting that this OVA is based on the epilogue of the japan exclusive novel LBX Retsuden: History of Justice)
