Welcome to the Club is a 2022 animated short based on The Simpsons and Disney. Directed by David Silverman, it is the seventh standalone Simpsons short and the fifth one made for Disney+.

When Lisa sets out to become a Disney Princess, she ends up crossing paths with the infamous Disney Villains who try to convince her that being a villain is a lot more fun than being a princess- through song!

The short premiered on September 8, 2022 as part of its second annual Disney+ Day.

Tropes appearing in this short:

  • Adaptational Badass: Cruella De Vil demonstrates a proficiency in magic that her film counterpart never did, more akin to her depiction in Once Upon a Time.
  • Affably Evil: The Disney villains are a surprisingly good-natured, welcoming bunch who are more than happy to take Lisa under their wing.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: While the villains are singing about the advantages to being evil, Lisa asks, "But don't you villains always die?"note  The villains have no response to this, except Ursula who claims, "It beats living happily ever after with some boring guy!"
  • An Arm and a Leg: Captain Hook cuts off Prince Charming's arm with his hook.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: The short ends with the Villain Recruitment Song working like a charm, with Lisa having fun wreaking havoc with them in the Creative Closing Credits.
  • Bait-and-Switch Silhouette: Lisa sees what looks like Snow White in the shadows, only for it to turn out to be the Evil Queen's old hag form.
  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: Even under Disney's ownership, The Simpsons doesn't stop with the potshots at the House of Mouse. For example:
    • Loki complains that he's making a cameo due to the request of Disney's advertising firm, deeming such a contractually-obligated appearance as beneath him.
    • The Disney Princes' song openly mocks themselves as Flat Characters, and how the audiences aren't interested in them because of it.
    • Mickey's cameo has him force the Princes (plus Doc and Sneezy) to form his face, angrily ordering them not to describe him as "narcissistic".
  • Contractual Obligation Project: In-Universe, Loki claims he's only in the special because Disney's advertising department required it.
  • Dude, She's Like in a Coma: During the princes' song, one of them mentions how they kiss unconscious women.
  • Evil Costume Switch: Ursula magically changes Lisa's outfit from a princess dress to a witch's outfit.
  • Evil Is Cool: The entire special is one In-Universe, where the Disney Villains try to convince Lisa that she should join them because of this very trope—in song form!
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Captain Hook is voiced by the eternally deep-voiced Kevin Michael Richardson, a considerable difference from his usual nasally voice provided by the late Hans Conried and later his successor Corey Burton.
  • Flat Character: Parodied In-Universe with the Disney Princes, who sing a song about how nobody's interested in them for being this trope.
  • Gender Flip: Implied - Kaa has a female voice, presumably with the intent of homaging Scarlett Johansson's performance in the 2016 film
  • Off with His Head!: Lisa magically cuts off Bart's head while he is sawing the heads off of her dolls. The Trope Namer herself is also here for good measure.
  • Shout-Out: The promotional image, along with an image during the credits, is one to Thelma & Louise.
  • Villain Song: The eponymous "Welcome to the Club". Lampshaded by Ursula, which she claims becomes "drag show favorites". Also doubles as a Villain Recruitment Song.
  • Wedgie: The closing credits show Captain Hook delivering one to Homer, but he's clearly struggling to lift Homer up.
