Royal: The Prince of Magic, Mostly known as just Royal is a webcomic Published on many sites but was first published on Tapas in 2017 and Webtoons in 2018 by Crystal Avery.

In 2020, the creator had ceased posting on Tapas and Webtoon, focusing more on the Comicfury site. She has recently started posting on the two sites again in 2021.

It follows the misadventures of Junior and Oliver Royal, two brothers with magical powers that deal with supernatural chaos along with the struggles of everyday life on top of it. Now that they are accepted to North Academy for the Technologically Gifted and Supernatural, the chaos is going to get worse.

The story starts out with episodic chapters with the main villain not being introduced until chapter 4, it ranges in genres from: comedy, drama, romance with the main one being action.


Royal shows examples of

  • Anime Hair: The Magi sub-human species have a 50/50 change of being born with odd-coloured hair.
  • Art Evolution: The comic went from black and white to colour halfway through chapter 2.
  • Crossover: Royal has crossed over with a few other webcomics and webnovels, weather it be cameos or otherwise. The Biggest Contenders are
  • Elemental Powers: Elemental Magi are more common than energy magi.
    • Schroeder Welsh is a Nature Magi, he can control plants
    • Paris Boudreau is also a Nature Magi
    • Carter Schmitt is a Water Magi
    • Stuart Schmitt, despite not showing his powers yet is confirmed to be a Lightning Magi.
  • Full-Contact Magic: A majority of Energy attacks.
  • Former Teen Rebel: Both Jr and Schroeder can go under this trope due to them being really aggressive young men while in high school.
  • Inept Mage: Oliver, he can do magic but is very weak.
  • Jizzed in My Pants: Junior after having some alone time with Ms. Sweet
  • Late for School: The first chapter has the Twins' car breaking down on the first day of school.
  • Man-Eating Plant: Schroeder summons one while fighting against Junior.
  • Mononymous Biopic Title: The Series title is the Surname of the main protagonists.
  • Naughty Tentacles: What Junior's thoughts went to when Paris asked if the Man-Eating Plant had tentacles.
  • Noodle Incident: Sometime during their highschool days, Jr punched out Schroeder. The only explanation given was that Schroeder was being a dick, how he was being a dick is left unanswered.
  • Older Than They Look: Oliver, he is 18 years old but is only 5 feet tall
  • Our Vampires Are Different: Vampires are like regular citizens in the series, but their weaknesses are very downplayed and are also considered myths.
  • Pure Energy: Magic used by someone not born with an element. Junior is a main example.
  • Rising Water, Rising Tension: From overusing his powers, it didn't take long for Carter to start flooding the simulation room.
  • Shirtless Scene: Jr has been seen topless in the first 3 chapters and the prologue so far and that is if you don't count Oliver being naked in the start of chapter 1.
  • Super Gullible: Junior isn't that bright when it comes to giving people the benefit of the doubt.
  • Titled After the Song: Every chapter in the comic is planned to be named after a song or referenced to a song title.
    • Examples
      • - The Prologue, and Chapter 2 are named after The Beatles songs "Only a Northern Song" and "Nowhere Man"
      • - Chapter 1 is the Ween song "Exactly Where I'm At"
      • - Chapter 3 and 4 are Toto 's "Hold the Line" and Sum 41 's "In Too Deep"
      • - Chapter 5 is Paul McCartney 's "Dear Boy"
      • - A Bonus story's title is "A Cup of Brown Joy" which is named after the Professor Elemental song
      • Chapter 6's title is Oasis ' "Don't look back in anger."
  • Trauma Button:
    • Oliver with dogs - the reason for his fear of dogs has yet to be revealed.
    • Jr suffers from aquaphobia, the sight of big amounts of water causes him to flee.
  • Urban Fantasy: The series takes place in modern day Canada.
  • Water Is Blue: Biggest example of this is Carter's powers in Chapter 4
  • Wizarding School: North Academy for the Supernatural and Technologically Gifted is for many classes of humans that are not considered normal. Magi are basically your wizards.
  • Writing Around Trademarks: Jump Party is an obvious parody of Mario Party. While not as known. "Tophat Pizza" is a parody of Topper's Pizza.
