What happens when the characters from Sonic the Hedgehog are merely just actors who are typically different than the characters they play in their games? You get Spinning Egg Zone. Made by WittyUsernameSA, the series was first released on YouTube in late 2015 and is a different type of parody of SEGA's Sonic the Hedgehog series.

"Spinning Egg Zone" contains examples of:

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Pretty much the premise of the whole series. The only exception to this is Cream who remains decently close to her video game counterpart.
    • With the exception, of course, to the fact that she doesn't have a very healthy living environment: Although Rouge and Big do their best to give her everything she needs, they are very often "enjoying" each other's company.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Sonic and company seem to be paying tribute to the old Dreamcast games in the first scene of the first episode.
  • Bad Boss:"Dark Lord" Iizuka. His employees even call him the devil. Not that he particularly minds this.
  • Boring, but Practical: Gamma went from a badass robot in Sonic Adventure to a toaster on Iizuka's desk.
    Iizuka: Haha! Practical.
  • Death Glare: Blaze does this to Silver.
  • Does Not Like Men: Amy. The only exceptions to this are Eggman and Tails. She also helped Shadow one time...kind of.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Despite emphasizing his real name is Francesco Rivera, everyone just calls him Shadow.
  • Evil Laugh: Iizuka.
  • Fantastic Drug: The Master Emerald of all things.
  • Hate Fic: In-universe. Tails writes these about Sonic....dying.....to his hands.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Big and Rouge are a couple in this series. The voice actors for the two are a couple in real life.
    • They also voice Sonic and Amy funny enough.
  • Jerkass: Sonic. Taken up to eleven when he yells at Tails during the production of Sonic 2.
    • He only just got there.
  • Large Ham: LJ7117 has a LITTLE too much fun as Iizuka.
  • Laughably Evil: Iizuka is an evil bastard and loves every minute of it.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Both Iizuka and Blaze fit this trope.
  • Method Acting: The entire character of Shadow is built around this trope. He REALLY wants to get into character. When believing there to be a Shadow the Hedgehog 2 in the works, he asks Amy to teach him how to be manly and give him her musk.
  • The Other Darrin: Tails was voiced by TheBlueEyedFox in Episode 1. However, from Episode 2 onward, he is voiced by Meredith White.
  • Out of Character: Just about everyone, given this is the story of their daily lives.
  • The Paranoiac: Blaze has broken Silver to the point where he freaks out over the smallest things and screams every line in absolute terror.
  • Product Placement: Tails drinks Mountain Dew
  • Pyromaniac: Blaze makes it clear she is this from her first line in the series.
Blaze: I like to watch people burn....to death.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Iizuka follows this trope at the end of Episode 1 when he realizes one of the jars is filled with pain tears.
  • Right Behind Me: When Eggman badmouths the Egg Dealer and says it was Iizuka's fault, Iizuka appears right behind him, accompanied by flames and an instrumental of Hellfire.
  • Ship Tease: In response to a comment in Episode 1, WittyUsernameSA implied something would be going on between Sonic and Amy. Come Episode 2 and it's revealed Amy is a lesbian and hates Sonic's guts.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Big the Cat is a psychologist in this universe and very smart individual at that. And yet he's the dumbest character in-game and still sounds like it.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: There's a montage in Episode 1 of Sonic and Eggman beating people up. What song is used? Sunshine Lollipops, of course!
  • The Stoner: Metal Sonic. He even gets high during his interview.
  • Unpleasable Fanbase: The Sonic fanbase in general, in the series and outside the series, tend to fall under this trope. The first episode has Sonic and Eggman telling them all the bad things that are going to be in the new game, including trivial things such as green eyes and blue arms (controversies that have actually existed in the real life fanbase).
  • Verbal Tic: The voice actor for Sonic has an odd way of saying words like "buddy" and "suck".
  • Violence Really Is the Answer: In Episode 1, Eggman and Sonic need to collect tears for Iizuka by telling fans the new Sonic game is gonna be awful. When it doesn't work on one fan, they take the next logical step. Beating the crap out of people of course!
