SHUT YO BITCH ASS UP!

Ghetto Smosh is a YouTube channel dedicated to creating Gag Dubs of classic Smosh skits, reimagining them as following the (usually weed-related) misadventures of Ian Hesmokes and Antwon Rodriguez.

The channel can be found here. As of late 2023, most of their videos have been privated due to direct legal action from Smosh. However, the creators have also started up a new channel called Ghetto Central, focusing on dubs of other series.

Tropes found in Ghetto Smosh include:

  • Adaptational Context Change: Goes with being a Gag Dub of SMOSH. One notable example is "PERC 30 DISASTER!!!", which stitches together "SMOSH VS ZOMBIES", "SLEEPING PILL DISASTER" and even Smosh: The Movie to produce a narrative about Ian and Antwon dealing with "gas station tweakers", consuming the titular drug, and having a drug trip so bad they blow up the Earth.
  • Affectionate Parody: Of Smosh, as well as late-2000's and early 2010's YouTube in general.
  • Aerith and Bob: Ghetto Ian keeps his name from the regular Smosh videos, but Anthony is now named Antwon, which even outside context is a fairly uncommon name. Their last names reverse this dynamic, with Antwon having the actual last name "Rodriguez" and Ghetto Ian having "Hesmokes."
  • Ambiguously Brown: Ghetto Ian, Antwon and Ghetto Gamer are implied to be dark-skinned (mostly due to multiple mentions of "white bitches") and yet the footage shows Ian and Anthony, two people who are clearly white. Most fan-art represents them as brown.
  • Anachronism Stew: It's not exactly sure what time Ghetto Smosh videos take place. At first glance, it would be safe to assume the videos take place either in present day or when the original videos were posted, but there's multiple implications that make the timeline hard to pin down. Mentions of 2K12 implies the videos take place in 2011, and yet a bong showing Morty and King Jellybean is shown in two videos, implying the series is set in early 2014 at it's earliest. note
  • Ascended Extra: Ghetto Gamer is a recurring character here, compared to his SMOSH equivalent (the title character from "GAMER GETS TROLLED") only being a one-off.
  • Couch Gag: The series adopts the "Shut up!" intro gag from SMOSH.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: From "ASSASSINS WEED RAP!!!":
Shoot a nigga in the face with my Glock
If he doesn't sub to Ghetto Smosh
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • Early videos were straightforward Gag Dubs of single Smosh videos, with the more original plots that use multiple source videos coming later.
    • It took a few videos for the main cast's voices to be settled. In particular, Antwon started with a (relatively) restrained voice in "GHETTO GAMER GETS MESSED WITH" before gradually evolving into having his characteristic No Indoor Voice and cheap microphone.
    • Before "WEEDLESS STONER!", the videos used the Saints Row 2 menu theme as its ending song, replaced now by a remix of "Ian is Bored", the actual Smosh ending song.
  • Feel No Pain: The Gas Station Tweakers in "PERC 30 DISASTER!!!" survive Ian's gunshots thanks to the effects of their gas station weed (in the original video, it was because Ian was an absurdly bad shot).
Nigga they so high, I swear they in another dimension! They can't even feel nothing!
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: "MY J'S CAN TALK!?!?", against all odds and known laws of the universe, manages to go for its entire length without making a single weed reference.
  • Ghetto Name: Anthony is rechristened as "Antwon".
  • Hostile Show Takeover: The aptly named "THIS CHANNEL HAS BEEN HACKED BY CLASSY SMOSH!!!" has the titular characters "hijack" Ghetto Smosh and do their version of "GHETTO GAMER GETS MESSED WITH" with exaggerated flairs of British Stuffiness. It doesn't last long as Ghetto Smosh regained control at the end of the video.
  • N-Word Privileges: Earned and used liberally.
  • No Indoor Voice: Antwon speaks like this. Combined with his often poor mic quality, it borders on cacophonic.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: The "gas station tweakers" from "PERC 30 DISASTER!!!", who were zombies in the source video.
  • Retraux: The show's intentionally low resolution and audio quality is meant to imitate turn-of-the-2010's YouTube. Though not a strict rule, the video's cultural references are also rooted in that time period.
  • Retro Universe: The videos are ostensibly set in the present day ("MY J'S CAN TALK!?!?" features Kobe Bryant in heaven for example), but the vast majority of its cultural references seem to come from no later than 2013. The fact that the SMOSH source videos are from that era also means that their fashion, entertainment and technology choices are rooted around 2010 as well.
  • Running Gag: When there's a knock on the door, Ian usually says "Ayo that's the plug at the door", regardless of who is outside the door.
  • Shoddy Knockoff Product: "MY J’S CAN TALK!?!?" revolves around this, with Ian gifting Antwon a pair of fake Nike Jordan sneakers while claiming it was signed by Michael Jordan. It turns out to be sentient and, at the end of the video, belonged to Kobe Bryant.
  • Song Parody: Ghetto Smosh have done "ASSASSINS WEED RAP!!!" (based on "ULTIMATE ASSASSINS CREED 3 SONG") and "LEGEND OF THE PLUG!!!" (based on "THE LEGEND OF ZELDA RAP").
  • The Stoner: Everyone, without exception.
  • Stoner Flick: Effectively SMOSH adapted into being one.
  • Stylistic Suck: The videos imitate the low resolution and cheap audio quality that was endemic of this era of YouTube videos. Some of the videos are available to watch in 4K, which doesn't actually do anything.
  • White Dude, Black Dude: A lot of the show's humor comes from it ticking off every single 'stoners in da hood' joke and stereotype you could possibly think of, and having Ian and Anthony deliver them.
