Princess Tutu Zwei is a fanmade animated sequel to Princess Tutu created by nocturnal-impala.

Tropes

  • Aerith and Bob: Characters have names such as Pirlipat and Rapunzel alongside Claudia and Ivan.
  • Alpha Bitch: Pirlipat is implied to be this, coming from a well-established family in town, and continuously spreads rumors about Claudia due to envy.
  • Ancient Conspiracy: The Bookmen. After the Raven’s return, there is only one member remaining in the town. Ivan is shown to share some sort of connection with him and his desire to end the tale spinners.
  • Animal Motifs: Ahiru’s being the duck. Claudia is compared to a beautiful swan.
  • Beehive Hairdo: Principal Rapunzel’s long hair is styled like this.
  • Anime Theme Song: The series opening theme Waver by Tadokoro Azusa.
  • Clockworks Area: Drosselmeyer’s area with gears and cogs is alluded to throughout the series, with Fakir getting a flash of the clock vision in episode 3 after he writes Ahiru into Princess Tutu, indicating that the story’s gears are in motion. He also falls asleep to the sound of clocks.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: An In-Universe example. Claudia, a new student from Paris, has lived in Gold Crown before and is only now returning. Yet no one remembers her previous existence except for one.
  • Continuity Nod: To the original anime’s ending when Mr. Cat is shown as a regular cat. He’s shown napping in the principal’s office with his wife.
    • In Episode 3, Ahiru is reading “The Prince and the Raven.” There’s now an ending with the Prince and princess returning to the kingdom, with an illustration of Rue and Mytho.
  • Driven by Envy: Part of the reason Pirlipat is set on spreading vicious rumors about Claudia is jealousy over her getting spotlight due to superior dancing.
  • Egg MacGuffin: The Soul Egg which grants immortality and supreme magic. Fakir and Ahiru combine their powers in an attempt to get it so it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.
  • Fan Sequel: An animated one for Princess Tutu
  • Gotta Catch Them All: Gathering all 7 of the nature fairy stones will unlock the Gates of Fortune and thus the Soul Egg.
  • Jealous Romantic Witness: Fakir when a strange fairy prince kisses Ahiru in episode 4.
  • Jumped at the Call: Ahiru’s first reaction upon learning of the plot to capture the Soul Egg is to offer herself up to protect the town as Princess Tutu.
  • Magical Girl: Ahiru once more when Fakir’s powers return her ability to transform into Tutu.
  • Moment Killer: In episode 3, Ahiru and Fakir stand together with a red rose symbolizing love between them. The moment is cut short by a fairy prince who throws the rose away.
  • Mood Whiplash: In the first episode when the scene of Ahiru and Fakir dancing together is immediately followed by foreboding rain upon Claudia’s arrival.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: Continues the running gag from the original series since Ahiru’s clothes don’t transform with her. Fakir has this reaction when she tries hugging him after turning back into a girl.
  • Rewriting Reality: Called Marchen Kraft in the series. Fakir has this ability being Drosselmeyer’s descendant. It later turns out another person has this power too and is using it to try gaining the Firebird egg.
  • Shapeshifting Excludes Clothing: When Ahiru first turns into a girl again, she doesn’t have any clothes and Fakir has to find her some.
  • Ship Tease: Between Ahiru and Fakir. They share a pas de deux together on the first day she becomes a girl again.
  • The Teaser: Each episode opens with a fairytale and black-and-white illustrations like the original anime.
  • Transformation Sequence: Ahiru due to Fakir using his powers to let her turn into Princess Tutu again.
  • Shout-Out: The school is run by Principal Rapunzel, who is shown to have extremely long brown hair piled atop her head.
    • Ahiru is also associated with the tale of the Ugly Duckling, who became a swan. Flashbacks of her background show that she was one of many ducklings with a swan mother.
  • Sacred First Kiss: Ahiru’s gets her first kiss as Tutu with a fairy prince who insists she’s his love. She first labels it a precious memory before considering if it counts since it was with a stranger and meant for Tutu.
  • Shirtless Scene: Fakir gets one in Episode 3, displaying his birthmark which Ivan comments on upon walking in the locker room.
  • Shown Their Work: Ballet positions are accurately drawn and animated.
  • Show Within a Show: Similar to the original anime, the town is once again caught inside another story, this time called “The Firebird and the Soul Egg.”
  • Small, Secluded World: The town of Gold Crown, with its inhabitants having never ventured outside the walls. Those who have are forgotten by the story.
  • Straight to the Pointe: Ahiru is given pointe shoes immediately upon returning to the academy, despite not having enough skill to have earned them previously. Later subverted when she falls over after trying a leap.
  • Stronger with Age: Established that the older the story, the more magic it’ll have.
  • Walk on Water: In Episode 3, Ahiru and Fakir dance together on a lake in her dream.
  • Weather Manipulation: The rain suddenly stops with the appearance of the mysterious Columbine, who lures the fairy into a stone.
