Pokemon Lavender (2023) is the third installment into The 'Verse that is the Askosverse, created by Jaydreamer. It follows the What If? scenario of "What if Romania was a Pokémon region?", where the culture and history of Romania is translated into a potential plot for a Pokemon game.
Lavender is part of a bigger Shared Universe. Lavender is not to be confused with Project Askos, which this is the Self-Remake of.
Pokemon Lavender contains examples of:
- Adaptational Backstory Change - The absence of Coral's father was not explained with Project Askos. Here, he's mentioned several times as Coral's inspiration for becoming a Trainer.
- Adaptation Personality Change - Coral was a Heroic Mime in the original. Now, she's a full-fledged human being, with a backstory and everything! Shocker!
- Ambiguously Absent Parent - Hayley's mother is never brought up.
- Ambiguously Bi - Trajannote liked Hayley's mom, and now he likes Decibel.
- Archnemesis Dad - Larsa's dad is this - Blake just cares about staying alive, and not at all about his own son.
- Author Avatar - In the Pokedex episodes, the "Jaydreamer" that was narrating alongside Hazel is revealed to be something alike this. Or Was It a Dream?
- Bonding over Missing Parents - Larsa and Coral bond over the loss of their fathers.
- Butterfly of Death and Rebirth - Literally. Determonarch is a Legendary Pokemon with the power to warp reality.
- Credits Gag: Jaydreamer interrupts the credits.Wait wait wait, hold on. Why the hell are some VAs listed in the credits? This whole video, I've literally been voicing EVERY character! Is this some kind of editing error?
- Dark and Troubled Past - Decibel now has this, as he experienced Fantastic Racism for being (the Askosverse version of) Romani.
- Defeat Means Friendship - After Coral fights Larsa, he realises the errors of his ways, and becomes a good guy.
- Don't Fear the Reaper - Duschacla is the Pokemon version of this.
- Drunk with Power - Trent turns into this after becoming President. Though, at some point before the story, he Heel Face Returns.
- Familial Body Snatcher:
- Larsa is possessed by the ghost of his own father.
- In Eternal Twilight, this gets extended to be all of his ancestors combined.
- Fantasy Counterpart Culture - Amurgian (actually Zorian) natives are a direct parallel to the Romani.
- Foreshadowing - The focus on Larsa's possession arc is paid off within Sinister Grin and Eternal Twilight, where the origin of his "curse" is explained.
- Gold and White Are Divine - The Legendary Pokemon Emparmony has these as its colour scheme.
- Her Boyfriend's Jacket - Nina wears a jacket that closely resembles the type of jacket Peter usually wears.
- Lost Orphaned Royalty - Larsa is revealed to be the Prince of Amurg - the son of King Blake, who "disappeared" during the beginning flashback.
- Mind-Control Eyes - Larsa's eyes have no shine to them whilst Blake takes possession of him.
- Necromantic - Larsa wishes to bring his dead dead back to life with the powers of Emparmony. This is actually Blake HIMSELF wanting HIMSELF revived, since he's currently possessing Larsa's body.
- Opening Narration - This is done within a Flashback to establish how the Askos region came to be.
- Queer Establishing Moment:
- Decibel: "Ha! Trust you to always have some crazy idea. Just be glad that I love you."Trajan: "…You what?Decibel: "…! I-I didn't say anything!"
- Second-Person Narration - The Narrator is Jaydreamer themselves, and they talk to the viewer in the second person.
- Sequential Boss - Subverted, as Larsa/Blake tries to do this, but is talked out of it.
- Thanking the Viewer: At the end of the Closing Credits, it thanks the viewer.
- The Kingslayer - Trent Askos becomes this. He even changes the region's name.
- Victory Fakeout - After Larsa is defeated, he spouts "This changes NOTHING!", and proceeds to Power Parasite Emparmony. This changes NOTHING! NOTHING, I TELL YOU! You know what?! I don’t need the power of Emparmony to achieve my goals! No…I have a better idea. I’ll just capture Duschacla, instead! And with HIS power, I will DESTROY ANYBODY WHO DARES TO STAND AGAINST ME!
- You Kill It, You Bought It - Also applies to Trent, since he became President after killing King Blake.
