Trivia / Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon

• Acting for Two: Like what happens in the original series, the Brazilian Portuguese dub has Letícia Quinto voicing both Kagome and the spirit of the Tree of Ages.
• Anime First: Despite being a sequel to Inuyasha, it's not based on an existing manga. Only the first episode has a source material, as it adapts the Since Then epilogue chapter that was written by Rumiko Takahashi in 2013 as part of Shogakukan's "Heroes Come Back" charity project to bring back some retired manga series for the benefit of reconstruction efforts for the Fukushima disaster at the time. The anime did later receive a manga adaptation by Takashi Shiina of Ghost Sweeper Mikami and Psychic Squad fame instead of Takahashi herself (though she made official promotional art of the series).
• Approval of God: Rumiko Takahashi actually approved the idea of a sequel series based on her characters as well as having Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's daughters as protagonists (although she had apparently been asked for three years before she gave in, and Sunrise had already started the project before her consent). She also approved of the one-shot sequel chapter being adapted into the anime as she didn't expect the bonus chapter to be adapted.
• Blooper: When airing the final few episodes of Season 1, Toonami accidentally aired Episode 21 again instead of Episode 24.
• B-Team Sequel: The manga adaptation is drawn by Takashi Shiina instead of Rumiko Takahashi.
• Creator Backlash:
  • Rumiko Takahashi was asked in a 2021 interview what her opinion on pairing Sesshomaru and Rin was, to which she replied, "In my opinion, Sesshomaru is Rin's parental figure/guardian".
  • Ken Narita, Sesshomaru's Japanese voice actor, has twice expressed his opinion that he doesn't view Rin as a love interest to Sesshomaru, but likewise sees him more like her parental figure/guardian. He was very confused at the reveal that Sesshomaru had kids, feeling it doesn't fit his character, and states that he overall sees Yashahime Sesshomaru as an "alternative universe" version of the original character. On the other hand, he feels he would be up to the challenge in portraying him as a father.
• Cross-Regional Voice Acting: The English dub was produced by Bang Zoom! in Los Angeles, where most of the roles were recorded. However, all previous InuYasha dubs had been produced by The Ocean Group in Vancouver, and a separate studio was rented there to allow many of the original actors to reprise their roles.^note David Kaye and Jillian Michaels, who voiced Sesshomaru and Shippo respectively, had relocated to Los Angeles anyway.
• The Original Darrin: In the English dub, David Kaye returns as Sesshomaru after he was replaced by Michael Daingerfield in the English dub of The Final Act due to moving to Los Angeles.
• The Other Darrin:
  • Japanese version:
    • Kohaku is voiced by Ryōhei Kimura instead of Akiko Yajima.
    • Makoto Yasumura replaces the late Kouji Tsujitani as Miroku.
    • Naoki Tatsuta voices Totosai instead of the late Joji Yanami.
    • Chafurin takes over for the late Toshihiko Nakajima as Hachi.
  • English version:
    • Kohaku is now voiced by Alan Lee in place of Aidan Drummond from The Final Act.
    • Ian James Corlett took over as Miroku after Kirby Morrow passed away not long after the first episode of the English dub aired in November 2020. This is somewhat appropriate, considering this isn't the first time the two have shared roles.
    • Andrew Russell voices Jaken in place of Don Brown. Mick Lauer replaced Brown as the Great-Dog Demon.
    • William Frederick Knight voices Grandpa Higurashi in place of French Tickner, who died over one month before the second season's debut. Knight himself passed away while the dub was still airing.
    • Shiori is now voiced by Janice Kawaye in place of Nicole Bouma.
    • Robbie Daymond replaces Rebecca Shoichet (who had previously replaced Saffron Henderson) as Sota.
    • Laura Post voices Sesshomaru's mother instead of Lisa Ann Beley (who had moved to DC).
  • Portuguese version:
    • Three characters had voices changed for the second time: Miroku and Shippo firstly had their voices changed in the movies, and they were replaced again in Yashahime. Myoga's voice, on the other hand, is justified: its first voiceover does lesser voice acting roles nowadays (even in the dubbing studio in which this anime was produced, where he works as a director), and its second voiceover died before completing the series. (his original voice returned in The Final Act, though, which season was dubbed in the language later)
  • The Latin Spanish dub was recorded in Argentina rather than Mexico, but unlike the English dub in which an LA-based studio selected the Canadian actors from the original series, the cast in the Spanish dub was entirely changed. Previously, the InuYasha movies were recorded in Venezuela without any of the original cast.
• Promoted Fangirl:
  • Azusa Tadokoro is a fan of Inuyasha and has cited the anime as an inspiration for her getting into voice acting in the first place. She is now part of the main cast of Yashahime as the voice of Moroha, Inuyasha and Kagome's daughter.
  • On the English dub side, Kira Buckland has cited Inuyasha as one of the anime series that got her into voice acting. She is currently the voice of Setsuna, Towa's twin sister.
• Recast as a Regular: Makoto Yasumura played various bit characters in the original Inuyasha anime before being cast as the new voice of Miroku in Yashahime.
• Recursive Adaptation: In a sideways kind of way:
  • The Inuyasha manga → Inuyasha Anime → Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon^note adapts the bonus chapter, then acts as a sequel to the Inuyasha anime and films, references anime-only characters and events → Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon manga adaptation
• Refitted for Sequel: Several elements from the original manga that were Adapted Out in the original anime are adapted, or at least, based from several chapters not adapted from its predecessor:
  • Episode 6 is an Adaptation Expansion of the original manga based on Chapters 393-395 where the main group discovers a ghost cat is responsible for several disappearances, possesses a religious figure, in control of a large cat demon skeleton, and manages to defeat the demon without harming the figure in question.
  • Episode 10 is largely based from chapters from the original manga, such as discovering a burned cow, villagers warns the protagonists of the twins' feud, and Kinka empowering a protagonist's weapon with fire (Tessaiga for Inuyasha and Kanemitsu no Tomoe for Setsuna).
• Role Reprise:
  • Many of the main Japanese actors from the Inuyasha anime return to reprise their roles, including Satsuki Yukino as Kagome Higurashi, Kappei Yamaguchi as Inuyasha, Houko Kuwashima as Sango, Kumiko Watanabe as Shippo, Hisako Kyoda as Kaede, Katsumi Suzuki as Grandpa Higurashi, Asako Dodo as Mrs. Higurashi, Mamiko Noto as Rin, Chō as Jaken, Akiko Yajima as the younger Kohaku, Kenichi Ogata as Myoga, and Ken Narita as Sesshomaru. Noriko Hidaka also returns in a sense, as she voices the Spirit of the Tree of Ages, who uses Kikyo's appearance and voice to communicate with others.
  • The English dub sees back the principals of the main cast from Inuyasha, which includes Richard Ian Cox as Inuyasha, Kira Tozer as Kagome,^note Tozer originally took the place of Kagome's original voice actress, Moneca Stori, in The Final Act David Kaye as Sesshomaru,^note who had been Darrin'd for The Final Act Brenna O'Brien as Rin, Jillian Michaels as Shippo, Kelly Sheridan as Sango, and Kirby Morrow as Miroku.^note Up until Morrow's sudden death. Cathy Weseluck also reprises her role as Kagome's mother. Similarly to the Japanese example above, Kikyo's English voice actor Willow Johnson voices the Spirit of the Tree of Ages. Other returning voice actors include Paul Dobson as Myoga, Terry Klassen as Hachi, and Richard Newman as Totosai.
  • The Portuguese dub has most of the cast from the original series, despite the fact that the dubbing studio usually recruits voice actors from a different region of São Paulo.
• Sequel First: Yashahime became dubbed in Brazilian Portuguese before The Final Act, which season was released dubbed in the country three years after Yashahime and almost 15 years after Final Act's Japanese release.^note Previously, The Final Act was released in Brazil through Amazon Prime Video in 2020, however it didn't include a dub neither the Japanese audio, only the LA Spanish audio with Portuguese subtitles.
• Sequel Gap: Yashahime began airing ten years after the conclusion of The Final Act, and twelve years after the conclusion of the original Inuyasha manga.
• Sequel in Another Medium: Yashahime serves as an anime sequel to the Inuyasha manga (though with some references to events and characters that were exclusive to the previous anime and movies).
• Uncredited Role: In a similar production style with Akira Toriyama in Dragon Ball Super, Rumiko Takahashi is involved with outlines and episode scripting process when she has time away from her work on Mao.
• Word of Saint Paul: The author of the Yashahime manga, Takashi Shiina, considers Yashahime to be a "What If" created by Sunrise as he considers Inuyasha to be an already completed work.
