Trivia / Sing 2

Go To

  • All-Star Cast: Big time in the Japanese dub: Besides the returning voice actors from the previous film, including celebrities, we have Marina Inoue (Suki), Megumi Hayashibara (Linda Le Bon), Akio Ōtsuka (Jimmy Crystal), Daiki Yamashita (Jerry), Subaru Kimura (Darius), Kenta Miyake (Big Daddy), and Ayane Sakura (Adeline).
  • Celebrity Voice Actor:
    • Almost all of the celebrity voice actors from the first movie return for the sequel, including but not limited to Scarlett Johansson, Taron Egerton, and Reese Witherspoon, with the notable additions of Halsey as Porsha and Bono (lead singer for the band U2) as Clay Calloway. Directors Wes Anderson and Edgar Wright also return to provide some additional voices.
    • From the Latin American Spanish dub:
      • Clay Calloway is voiced by the Puerto Rican pop singer Chayanne.
      • Jimmy Crystal is voiced by the Colombian actor Sebastian Martinez.
      • Porsha Crystal is voiced by the also Colombian actress and singer Greeicy Rendón.
      • Linda Le Bon is voiced by the also Colombian model Laura Tobon.
    • From the the Japanese dub:
      • Clay Calloway is voiced by Koshi Inaba, vocalist of the legendary rock duo B'z.
      • Nooshy is voiced by the coreographer Akane Miyazaki, which is quite fitting, as Nooshy is also a choreograph teacher like her dub voice actress.
      • Alfonso is voiced by the American-Japanese singer Jesse, who is a member from the pop band SixTONES.
      • Porsha Crystal is voiced by the Idol Singer Aina the End, who is the founding member of the band Bish.
    • The Brazilian dub retains most of the famous voices from the original (only Mariana Ximenes didn't return as Rosita) and brings in additional ones in singers Lexa and Paulo Ricardo as Porsha and Clay.
  • Fake American: Clay Calloway is voiced by Irish singer Bono.
  • Meaningful Release Date: Its delays (see below) let the sequel be released five years and a day after the original film.
  • The Other Darrin: Johnny has a different voice actor in the "Come Home" commercial.
  • Playing Against Type:
  • Recycled Script: This film hits all the same beats and even most of the same character arcs as its predecessor:
    • Buster lies, cheats, and steals to put on his show, recruits a reclusive retired star to save it, and resorts to criminal trespassing to stage the actual performance (but gets away with it all because the show is that good).
    • Rosita has a crisis of confidence that threatens her position in the show but overcomes it in a moment of spontaneity.
    • Johnny learns a new skill while seeking (and eventually earning) the acceptance of an overbearing authority figure.
    • Meena faces crippling shyness but gets past it with the help of something/someone she loves.
    • A character has to deal with carrying on after a heartbreak.
    • A talented but selfish jerk ruins the show and almost gets people killed, but comes back after a bit of development.
    • A character performs a song about finding their own path and rebelling against their overbearing father.
  • Real-Life Relative: Rosita's piglets: In addition to Garth Jennings's children reprising their roles, Matthew McConaughey's daughter Vida voices the one who jumps in a chocolate fountain towards the climax.
Piglet: This is the best day of my life, Daddy!
  • Refitted for Sequel: The scene near the beginning where Buster chases after Suki’s taxi on his bike is directly based on a storyboarded sequence that was considered for the original Sing film.
  • Release Date Change: Twice. Sing 2 was originally supposed to be released December 25, 2020, but COVID-19 shifted the date to July 2021, before finally settling on December 22, 2021.
  • Those Two Actors: In the Japanese dub, and as a result of Eddie not returning in this film, Mamoru Miyano doesn't voice any role here, while Kōichi Yamadera voice Klaus, despite Mike, his other character he dubbed in the prequel, didn't return either. This is especially odd, as in the previous Illumination's film, The Secret Life of Pets 2, Miyano did voice a character there (as Sergei), while Yamadera didn't return in that film as result of both the character he voiced in its prequel, Ozone, didn't return and the fact he was busy dubbing Aladdin (2019) as the Genie. It should be noted both actors had worked together in almost all Illumination's Japanese dubs.note
  • Uncredited Role: Spike Jonze as Mr. Crystal’s assistant, Jerry.
  • What Could Have Been: Many of the new characters originally had different names. Suki was originally named Dixie, Nooshy was originally named Vivace, and Darius was originally named Elwood.
