Trivia / Lupin III: Part 1

Go To

  • No Dub for You: Initially played straight, as Discotek Media released the series on DVD sub-only. However, Episode 1 eventually did get dubbed using the Part IV-VI cast in late 2021, with it and the rest of the show getting releases in 4-episode bursts on the HIDIVE streaming service. This dub also got to be included on Discotek's Blu-Ray remaster.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Yasuo Yamada becomes the third actor to play Arsene Lupin III, succeeding Nachi Nozawa and Taichiro Hirokawa.
    • Yukiko Nikaido voices Fujiko Mine instead of Eiko Masuyama.
    • Gorō Naya replaced Shinsuke Chikaishi and Chikao Ohtsuka as the voice of Inspector Zenigata.
    • Ohtsuka himself voiced Goemon Ishikawa XIII instead of Naya and Osamu Kobayashi.
    • When it came to the dub on HIDIVE, Kaiji Tang was replaced by Todd Haberkorn for the voice of Pycal.
    • Jamieson Price replaced Michael Sorich as Mr. Gold after the latter voiced him in his cameo appearance in Lupin III: Part 5.
  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: Rumors have existed of an obscure US English dub of the series that was titled "The Viper" and it aired in 1972, one year after the anime aired in Japan. There is little known about it, and no proof of its existence, so it is currently unknown if this claim is true or false. A thorough investigation by the Lost Media Wiki was unable to find any evidence of the dub, leading many to doubt its existence.
  • Role Reprise: All of the actors from the "Red Jacket" dub return to reprise their roles. Derek Stephen Prince also returns to reprise his role as Mister X in the pilot episode, much like in the pilot of Part II, as do Steve Kramer as Sandayu Momochi and Paul St. Peter as Kyousuke Mamo after appearing as him in Is Lupin Still Burning?.
  • Vindicated by Cable: The series was originally unsuccessful even with the staff changes due to it being the first Japanese anime to be targeted towards adults. It was only when future reruns of the entire series was that caused a raise of popularity and also got Lupin III (Red Jacket) to be greenlit for production. This was due to broadcasting fees at the time were cheap with local stations airing it as filler in their schedules.
  • What Could Have Been: Originally, the dub of this series was going to come much earlier and produced by Geneon. However, they were hit with financial problems, with their only contributions being Part II and Mamo.
