Trivia / Kamen Rider V3

Go To

  • No Export for You: Averted, which is a rarity in Kamen Rider, but is slowly becoming not. The show has an official US DVD release thanks to the fact that it used to air subtitled on TV in Hawaii. Technically, the company only has the rights for Hawaii, but you can buy it if you live in the mainline United States through their website, or sites like Amazon where there's a listing for it. Unfortunately, it's almost $100, but you get a lot on the discs than just the episodes to make up for it a bit.
  • Role Reprise: While Tobei Tachibana and Double Riders remain as a main character and recurring characters respectively, Shocker's four Dragons are reprised in episodes 27 and 28.
  • What Could Have Been: V3 was not in the original manga. Instead, Kamen Rider #3 was created (V3 was created by Ishinomori because Toei and the marketing team saw 3 as unmarketable from how generic he appeared). However, the basic concept for #3 and #4 would be revisited much, much later in the franchise.
    • The introduction of the third Kamen Rider was initially planned for the original series. What ultimately became the first two episodes of V3 were first conceived as episodes 99 and 100.
    • Shiro Kazami's name was originally planned to be Shiro Hayabusa, this was changed during a meeting as the producers did not want confusion with the similarly named Hayabusao, a horse from the show Henshin Ninja Arashi.
    • Guillotine Saurus and Poison Needle Spider were, in addition to Cannon Buffalo, created for The Movie; it was only due to an agreement with the network that it was arranged that they appear on TV first, serving as dual MOTWs in #20 and #21 before being brought Back from the Dead.
    • Introduced halfway through the series, Interpol agent Ken Sakuma was devised as a successor to the original series' Badass Normal Kazuya Taki, but failed to meet projections when he abruptly disappeared by the end of V3's third quarter.
    • Riderman was supposed to have a machinegun arm as one of his arsenal. While Shotaro Ishinomori already made its concept art, he ultimately dropped the idea.
    • The prospect of Riderman leading his own show following V3 was considered but dropped in favor of introducing a new Rider. All we have left of that is a Development Gag in OOO's 999th franchise episode special, which counted Riderman as a show complete with a mock title card.
  • Throw It In!: Doktor G's pronunciation of "Kamen Riiiiiider V3!" was an invention of actor Jotaro Senba, who explained that Doktor G was a foreigner who had only recently arrived in Japan and so did not speak Japanese so well.
  • Working Title: Quite a few, from "Kamen Rider 3", "Mask Rider", "Rider Kamen", "Riderman" and "Kamen Rider X", the latter two of course would be given life as Kamen Rider #4, V3's secondary, and the succeeding show. Furthermore outlandish concepts include "Ultra Rider", "Rider A", "Shin Kamen Rider"note , "New Kamen Rider"note  and "King Rider".
