Trivia / Jurassic World Dominion

Go To

  • Completely Different Title: Known in France as Jurassic World : Le Monde d'après (Jurassic World: The World That Comes After). In Germany and Austria it's Jurassic World: Ein neues Zeitalter (Jurassic World: A New Age).
  • Delayed Release Tie-In: The VelociCoaster opened on June 10, 2021, just one day before this film's original release day.
  • Early-Bird Release: The film came out between one and two weeks before the United States in many international markets, including Mexico, Latin America, Brazil, Pakistan, Germany, South Korea, Italy and Hong Kong.
  • In Memoriam: The film is dedicated to stunt rigger Wojciech Modrzewski, who drowned two years before the film's release.
  • Inspiration for the Work: Seeking something that could bring a paleobotanist (i.e. Ellie) into the plot, Colin Trevorrow learned about Insect Allies and decided genetically modified bugs was the way.
  • Meaningful Release Date: The first trailer for the film was released on February 10 of 2022, the 55th birthday of star Laura Dern.
  • Missing Trailer Scene:
    • The entire prologue (with the flashback to the Cretaceous period and the T.rex rampaging through a drive-in theatre) is nowhere to be found in the film itself despite being featured prominently in the marketing. Both scenes still managed to get into the movie on home-media releases of the extended cut.
    • Malcolm’s trailer line "Bigger. Why do they always have to go bigger?" is not in the final film.
  • Orphaned Reference: Despite having a full CGI model, Oviraptor only shows up in the film's prologue. Collin Trevorrow revealed that there was supposed to be a scene of one fighting a Lystrosaurus in Malta, but said scene was cut, leaving the prologue as the creature's only appearance in the franchise. The extended cut adds this scene back in, making it orphaned no more.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Lewis Dodgson is played by Campbell Scott in this film as his original actor, Cameron Thor, was convicted of sexual assault of a minor in 2016.
    • In the Japanese dub, Alan Grant is voiced by Takayuki Sugo, as his previous voice actors who dubbed him before, Kei Tomiyama in the first film and Shinji Ogawa in the third, had both died. The same goes for Ellie Satler, as her previous voice actress, Kazuko Yanaga, had already passed away, and she is replaced with Kikuko Inoue instead.
  • Preview Piggybacking: The first five minutes of the film were first shown before IMAX screenings of F9 in June 2021 (in a similar way to how Jurassic World: Battle at Big Rock was originally supposed to play before screenings of Hobbs & Shaw), many months before being made available online in November of that year.
  • Production Posse: Notably, John Schwartzman returns as cinematographer after working with Colin Trevorrow on Jurassic World and The Book of Henry, making him the first person to shoot more than one Jurassic film. Composer Michael Giacchino, who scored both films as well as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, returns as well to become the first composer to score three Jurassic films, one more than original composer John Williams.
  • Refitted for Sequel:
    • Storyboards revealed that in Fallen Kingdom, the opening was supposed to include a scene where the Mosasaurus eats a harpooned whale, capsizing a whaling ship. Here, a similar scene happens, but with a crab pot and crabbing ship. The fact that the "coexistence" montage near the end of the film shows the Mosasaurus swimming peacefully alongside a pod of humpback whales probably had something to do with the change.
    • Bryce Dallas Howard revealed she had a document with ideas tossed around by the cast and crew while making the previous movies, which the writers eventually requested for this one. Blue having a baby and the Malta black market were both used.
  • Release Date Change: The film was originally supposed to premiere on June 11, 2021 but production delays caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding theatre openings, led to it being delayed to June 10, 2022.
  • Science Marches On:
    • A paper published one month after the prologue debuted redescribed the Quetzalcoatlus genus finding, that their necks would have been longer.
    • A mummified specimen of Lystrosaurus discovered a month after the film's release has revealed that the genus had bumps along its back, which the film version lacked.
  • Shrug of God: When asked if Bumpy was among the Ankylosaurs seen during the film, Colin Trevorrow didn't provide a specific answer. This turned out to be because the fifth, then-unreleased fifth season of Camp Cretaceous would clarify Bumpy ended up getting to live a peaceful life on the Mantah Corp island.
  • Role Reprise:
  • Troubled Production: The movie had the misfortune of beginning to film just before the COVID-19 Pandemic started forcing studios to halt productions due to quarantine lockdowns. Filming was allowed to resume in July 2020 with extensive safety and hygiene protocols, including having the cast and crew form a "bubble" in their hotel, to minimize risk of exposure to the virus. Despite these efforts several crew members tested positive for the virus in October, forcing a two-week pause until they were cleared. A location shoot in Malta had to be scaled back after an increase in COVID cases and further travel restrictions. Stories about the making of the film would serve as the inspiration for a Judd Apatow comedy, The Bubble.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Jake Johnson was originally supposed to return as Lowery Cruthers but the production delays and travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic meant he was unable to attend filming leading to his character being cut. According to some concept art released for the movie, he would have been Claire's CIA contact. Franklin ultimately filled that role in the final film.
    • Andy Buckley was also slated to return at some point as Scott Mitchell (Zach and Gray’s father), but was eventually removed during rewrites.
    • Daniela Pineda originally was supposed to have an additional scene before quarantine restrictions prevented her from being able to film it. Her role was given to a new character played by Varada Sethu (the woman at the Pennsylvania airport who speaks to Grant and Sattler).
    • Collin Trevorrow reveals that the Oviraptor would have appeared in the Amber Clave Market as one of the dinosaurs being used for gladiatorial sport. Specifically, it would have been featured in a scene where it fights the Lystrosaurus. This explains why a fully-rendered CGI model of the Oviraptor exists in the prologue despite not appearing in the film itself. Fortunately, the scene was included in the Extended Edition.
    • Deinonychus and a Suchomimus were planned to appear in Malta, but were ultimately changed to Atrociraptor and Allosaurus respectively.
    • Concept art reveals Grant and Owen were supposed to encounter the Pyroraptor once again while trying to find Beta. A promotional LEGO set for the movie suggests that this may have involved a fight between the Pyroraptor and a Dilophosaurus.
    • Pyroraptor, Spinosaurus and the buck and doe Tyrannosaurs were all considered to be the dinosaur/s that assist Rexy in the final fight with the Giganotosaurus before it was decided on the Therizinosaurus. Trevorrow even considered having a five dinosaur fight in which the three Tyrannosaurs would fight the Giganotosaurus and Spinosaurus but decided it would be too overwhelming.
    • Plesiosaurus was planned to be in the film but was cut during production, allegedly to avoid similarity with Avatar: The Way of Water and the sequel to The Meg, which would both be coming out within a year and feature plesiosaur-like creatures. Rumors are that the scene would have involved a boat chase in Malta which may even have been partially filmed, as there would leaked production photos of a convoy of Biosyn boats at Malta that didn't appear in the film as well as locals who claimed to have witnessed a scene of a boat chase being filmed.
    • In early storyboards of the Cretaceous period prologue scene, Microraptor would have appeared in place of Moros and Ornithocheirus would have appeared in place of Quetzalcoatlus.
  • Word of Gay: Kayla mentions in the movie how she understands Owen as she's also into redheads, heavily implying that she means women too in specific (and in fact, was translated as meaning women in specific in some dubs). Nonetheless, a few weeks before the theatrical release, DeWanda Wise confirmed that her character in the film is bisexual.
  • Word of God: After the film's release, Trevorrow confirmed on Twitter that the Tyrannosaur pair that Rexy encounters at the end of the film are the mated buck and doe from The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
