Trivia / Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Hawkes and his lackey Reed are both voiced by Dave B. Mitchell.
  • Author's Saving Throw:
    • Amidst fears the show would be extremely toned down, Merchandise-Driven and comedic to fit the motions as a children's show, to the point it wouldn't feel like Jurassic Park anymore, Steven Spielberg put the fears aside by assuring he and Colin Trevorrow weren't pulling punches beyond keeping it acceptable for youth content. Sure enough, the show, while having very little blood, has plenty of intense scenes, long-running character arcs, and barely any merchandise plugs.
    • Jurassic World got some criticism for what some saw as a waste of the intriguing idea that people had started to find dinosaurs passé after they'd been around for years, with the guests showing no evidence of it. Brooklynn's difficulty in keeping her fans engaged finally makes good use of it.
    • Those who may find the hybrid dinosaurs in the film series to be bland were finally given a small break in this series, where we get to see bioluminescent Parasaurolophus. On the other side, those who find hybrids cool and want more of them will have their hopes become true, as the Arc Villain of Season 3 will be another hybrid dinosaur.
    • Season 3 confirms that the opening scene of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom takes place only six months after the events of Jurassic World, not three years, explaining why the Mosasaurus didn't starve to death.
  • Dawson Casting: Except for Paul Mikel Williams as Darius Bowman and Jenna Ortega as Brooklynn, the voice actors for the main characters are at least in their 20s.
  • Descended Creator: The character simply credited as "Worker" is voiced by Scott Kreamer, one of the showrunners.
  • Flip-Flop of God: There have been conflicting statements over whether the Spinosaurus in Camp Cretaceous is the same one from the third movie. Series producer Scott Kreamer claims this to be the case, while Colin Trevorrow says he thinks of the two as separate individuals.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: While not confirmed, the main characters resemble their voice actors. This is Subverted with Dr. Wu, who is voiced by someone else that is not B.D Wong, but still resembles him. Roxy and Dave also resemble their performers somewhat as do Dr. Mae Turner and Eddie.
  • Milestone Celebration: As perhaps a happy accident on account of the rescheduling and reworking of Seasons 2 and 3, the return of the Spinosaurus in Season 4 coincides with the 20th anniversary of its first (and only) appearance in the franchise, back in 2001's Jurassic Park III.
  • The Other Darrin:
  • Playing Against Type: Haley Joel Osment voices the villainous and psychotic adult Kash D. Langford in Season 4. He is usually the voice of an idealistic Kid Hero such as Sora or Takeshi Jinno.
  • Prop Recycling: The Eaties use a slightly modified (colour and scars) version of Rexy's model. This has the side effect of both having a couple of her distinct physical traits like her (at the time) rather gaunt frame and missing tooth.
    • The Tarbosaurus uses the same model but with modifications to the skull, bulking up the body, addition of scutes and color scheme. They didn't replace the missing tooth however.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Queer actress Kausar Mohammed voices Yasmina, who is bisexual.
  • Recast as a Regular: Roger Craig Smith voiced the evacuation staff in the finale of Season 1 and Eddie in a quick cameo during Season 3 before coming back in Season 4 as the voice of the BRADs and the BRAD-Xs.
  • Refitted for Sequel: Ouranosaurus, introduced to the franchise in season 3, had originally been intended to appear in Jurassic Park III.
    • The way Rexy attacks the helicopter around the end of season 3 is taken from an alternate ending from the original film in which Rexy would've attacked the helicopter in which the characters escape in a similar fashion as to how she does it in the series.
  • Same Content, Different Rating: The show initially premiered on Netflix with a TV-PG rating, the first time any Dreamworks Animation series on the platform had ever been given one. Despite that, it was eventually receded to a TV-Y7 rating when Season 2 premiered on the service. Ironically, the official trailer for Season 4 labeled it with a TV-PG rating despite the fact that it went on to debut with the more kid-friendly rating intact.
  • Uncredited Role: Much like the films, any human-recorded vocal effects for the dinosaurs go uncredited.
  • What Could Have Been: From the look of this concept art, Darius had dreadlocks, Ben was originally Asian and Nerdy named Xi, Kenji was intended to be a blond-haired Caucasian named Ben (whose race and name ends up being switched with the Xi character), Yaz was named Katie, Brooklynn was named Julie and doesn't have a lot of pink on her, and Sammy was a boy and The Big Guy.
    • The plotlines for Seasons 2 and 3 were reshuffled and reworked. Originally Mitch and Tiffany were supposed to be Mantah Corp agents and have their plotline tied in with the Scorpios rex.
    • Bumpy went through many different species concepts before becoming established as an Ankylosaurus.
  • Word of God: According to an interview with Colin Trevorrow, Bumpy survived the eruption of Mt. Sibo that will happen in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The series finale confirms she moves to Mantah Corp’s island, safe from the coming volcanic eruption.
