Chapter 1: Prehistory

  • Odio's hatred manifests itself for the first time as a Tyrannosaurus rex called Odo, which is worshiped by the Kuu Tribe. Meanwhile, Pogo's tribe leader Elder kills a similar T-rex and leaves the skeleton up as a Battle Trophy for his tribe to admire, bringing relative peace to their side of the region.
  • The Kuu Tribe begins preparations to sacrifice Beru.
  • Beru escapes the tribe and into the night. Zaki is dispatched along with a team of cavemen to retrieve her.
  • Pogo and Gori go on their first hunt and meet Beru that night. Pogo falls in love and allows her to stay. The next day, he goes out hunting again to provide her with food.
  • Zaki invades Pogo's tribe and interrogates the chieftain on where Beru is. One of the cavemen finds Beru and presents her to Zaki.
  • Pogo rescues Beru and defeats the invaders and Zaki. Pogo's Chieftain doesn't want Beru to stay so Pogo protests for her to become a part of the tribe, resulting in them getting exiled.
  • Pogo, Beru, and Gori are now homeless and must fend for themselves. Zaki prepares for a trap which later kills Watanabe's father for the first of many times.
  • The trio eventually finds a cave to rest into. During the night, Zaki kidnaps Beru, just as Pogo wakes up. The two fight, with Pogo coming out victorious. He then chases Zaki further into the cave, resulting in him and Gori falling into the trap.
  • Pogo and Gori escape the trap and find the Kuu Tribe's base. Gori sees female gorillas and attacks the guards.
  • Pogo fights his way to Beru and so does Gori (who now has a harem of female gorillas).
  • Pogo and Zaki fight once more, but the fight is interrupted by a rumbling sound and the platform they are standing on collapses.
  • They survive the fall and the Kuu Chieftain tries to flee, but is promptly Eaten Alive by Odo.
  • Zaki and Pogo put aside their differences and fight Odo.
  • After a long fight, the party survives and Odo falls.
  • Pogo's old tribe finds the Kuu and their chieftain talks to Zaki, but is carried away by Gori. The two tribes then laughed.
  • Zaki becomes the new Chieftain of the Kuu tribe and they and Pogo's tribe make peace by presumably eating the remains of Odo, allowing Pogo, Gori, and Beru to return home.
  • Later that evening, Pogo heads towards his room with Beru. He checks to see if the coast is clear before going inside and making love with Beru. Gori tries to get into Pogo's room but is immediately kicked out. Gori's harem then comes in. Gori tries once again to get into Pogo's room but is straight up kidnapped by his harem and dragged to another room. Moments later, Pogo begins to utter something. After a few failed attempts, he finally screams out humanity's first word ("Aiiieee!!!!"). Gori ends the chapter by chuckling at the viewer.

Post-Chapter

  • Pogo is sleeping with Beru, until he smells something. He then leaves his room and smells again, which leads to him being abducted by Odio.
  • After the Final Chapter, Pogo returns home and learns that Beru has given birth to their child. Gori sees the baby, smiles mischievously, and calls in his harem, who reveal that they all had babies too. Pogo and Beru are shocked and Gori laughs one more time.

Chapter 2: Imperial China

  • Odio manifests again as Ou Di Wan Lee.
  • The elderly Earthen Heart Shifu attempts to split a rock, but fails. He realizes that he is growing close to death and must ensure his martial arts style survives. (The following three segments can happen in any order.)
  • While traveling through a bamboo forest, the Shifu is attacked by a female bandit named Lei Kugo. He defeats her in battle, realizes she has potential, and asks her to study under him. Surprised, she agrees.
  • While visiting a village, the Shifu is robbed by a young man named Yun Jou, who is being coerced by a bandit leader named Sun Tzu Wang. The Shifu defeats Sun Tzu Wang, and, sensing untapped potential in Yun, asks him to study under him.
  • While visiting the market, the Shifu sees a portly young man named Hong Hakka pulling a Dine and Dash. He stops Hong, pays for his meal, and offers to feed him regularly if Hong will study under him.
  • The Shifu and his three new students return to his mountain home, where he teaches them the art of Earthen Heart kung fu for an unknown but lengthy period of time.
  • Sun Tzu Wang, the bandit who was forcing Yun into crime, attacks the Shifu's school, having learned another style of kung fu called the Indomitable Fist. He is defeated soundly by the Shifu.
  • After Sun Tzu Wang's defeat, the Shifu is horrified upon returning to his home and seeing it utterly lain to waste. Two of his students are dead, and the third (hereafter called the Successor) is barely clinging to life. (The one that survives is the one you sparred the most with during the training segment.)
  • The Shifu buries his slain students and vows revenge. He travels north, to the Indomitable Fist school.
  • If Lei is the Successor, she interrupts the Shifu in the bamboo forest and joins him.
  • If Yun is the Successor, when the Shifu arrives at the Indomitable Fist school, Yun jumps in when he is attacked by Ou Di Wan Lee's students and fights them off. He then joins the Shifu.
  • If Hong is the Successor, Wan Tan Na Bei attempts to avenge his father's death at the hands of the Indomitable Fist... and fails miserably. After this, Hong arrives and joins the Shifu.
  • The Shifu and the Successor arrive at Ou Di Wan Lee's inner sanctum. Ou Di Wan Lee welcomes them and introduces his most powerful students, whom each attack the Shifu and Successor in turn.
  • The Shifu and the Successor are about to challenge Ou Di Wan Lee himself, but a pair of assassins jump out. The Shifu takes on the assassins, leaving the Successor to fight Ou Di Wan Lee.
  • The Successor thinks back to when they were taught the most powerful move of the Earthen Heart style, Heavenly Peaks Descent. They unleash the move against Ou Di Wan Lee, sending him flying across the room and into a gong, killing him on impact.
  • With Ou Di Wan Lee slain, the Successor checks on the Shifu, only to find him dying. The Shifu expresses undying pride in his student before giving his last breath.
  • The Successor buries the Shifu next to the other two students, practices the art, and then turns to the rock the Shifu failed to split. The Successor strikes the rock with a single punch, and it cracks in half.
  • The Successor proclaims themselves the Earthen Heart Master with pride.

Post-Chapter

  • Shortly after claiming the title of the Earthen Heart Master, the Successor is abducted through time and space by Odio.
  • After the Final Chapter, the Successor returns and takes a stroll to the towns, none of them knowing their stint with Odio, but their past criminal records have been cleansed and they have become just as respected as their Shifu.
  • As time passes, the Successor returns to the Master's hermitage, where they teach children the arts of Earthen Heart Kung Fu, with Sun Tzu Wang and his goons learning as well.

Chapter 8 (3 chronologically): Middle Ages

  • In the kingdom of Lucrece, a great tournament is held, with the hand of the kingdom's princess Alethea as the prize. The young knight Oersted and his friend, the mage Streibough, compete. The two defeat their opponents in the semi-finals (Streibough's being a bandit named Watt of Nabe), then compete against each other. Oersted is victorious, and the king is proud to give him Alethea's hand in marriage.
  • That night, Oersted and Alethea spend some time alone on a balcony in the castle. Suddenly, a demon swoops down, declaring that the Lord of Dark has returned. Oersted slays it, but another grabs Alethea and flies off into the distance.
  • The king charges Oersted with the rescue of the princess, and Streibough agrees to accompany him. The two set out from the palace.
  • The two set out to speak with Hasshe, the hero who previously defeated the Lord of Dark. However, Hasshe has grown tired of heroism and refuses to see them.
  • At a loss, the two visit a village near the palace, where one of Hasshe's former cohorts, the priest Uranus, lives. Uranus agrees to help them.
  • Together, Oersted, Streibough, and Uranus set out to Hasshe's home again. Uranus calls out Hasshe on his cowardice and his refusal to face his duty once again, before presenting him with his sword, Brion. After some soul-searching, Hasshe finally decides to aid them.
  • The four heroes enter the Archon's Roost, making their way through various opponents before reaching the inner sanctum.
  • The Lord of Dark appears, and after a brief battle is defeated. Hasshe refuses to believe it could be that easy, but a previously-unmentioned illness he was suffering from suddenly flares up, and he collapses. The lair then begins to collapse, and Streibough uses his powers to keep it in place as Oersted and Uranus flee.
  • The king is saddened to hear of Hasshe and Streibough's passings, and is disappointed that they could not retrieve Alethea, but thanks Oersted for his efforts.
  • That night, Oersted awakens and sees a demon. He follows it into the throne room and cuts it down... only to discover that it was actually the king. The royal guards arrive and, horrified, declare that Oersted is actually the Lord of Dark in disguise. Oersted fights his way past them and flees the castle.
  • Oersted seeks refuge in the village where he met Uranus, but discovers that word of his action has spread, and the villagers shun him. With no further options, he returns to the palace and is arrested.
  • Oersted is thrown into the palace dungeon, and finds an injured Uranus in the cell next to him. Uranus explains that he was tortured for his association with Oersted, but holds no anger towards him. He begs Oersted to discover what really happened, and assures him that as long as one person has faith in him, he cannot fail. Uranus uses the last of his power to unlock Oersted's cell, then dies.
  • Oersted sets out for the Archon's Roost, fighting his way past a new set of guards before reaching the peak of the mountain it was built into.
  • At the peak, Oersted discovers that Streibough is still alive. Streibough reveals that he always hated Oersted for being the one in the spotlight, and had always wanted to make him fall. He created an illusion of the Lord of Dark, faked his death, and then used his powers to trick Oersted into regicide. With the truth revealed, Oersted and Streibough battle to the death, and Oersted cuts down his former friend.
  • Alethea emerges, and is horrified to see Streibough dead. She blames Oersted for not coming to rescue her, and declares her love for Streibough before committing suicide.
  • Oersted is left with absolutely nothing. He thinks through the events of the past few days and, actively speaking for the first time, decides that if the world is convinced he is a demon, he may as well play the part. He sheds the name "Oersted", and takes on a new identity: the Lord of Dark, Odio.

Post-Chapter

  • An unspecified amount of time later, Odio goes on a rampage, killing everyone in Lucrece.

Chapter 3: Twilight of Edo Japan

  • Odio manifests again as the daimyo Ode Iou. He attempts to throw Japan into war and chaos, and captures a very important person.
  • In response to this, the Enma ninja clan sends one of their own, Oboromaru, to infiltrate the castle, rescue the prisoner and then kill Ode Iou, with it being up to Oboromaru as to how he does the deed. Along the way, Oboromaru disposes of Ode Iou's generals — Puppetmaster Gennai, the ghosts of Yodogimi and Miyamoto Musashi, and possibly the ghost of Amakusa Shiro Tokisada (though the prisoner may do it for him).
  • After rescuing the prisoner, the two do battle with and eventually slay Ode Iou, who had transformed into the monster Gamahebi.
  • After the fight, the prisoner realizes he forgot to introduce himself and reveals himself to be Sakamoto Ryōma. Ryoma then extends an offer to Oboromaru to help him unify and rebuild Japan. The player chooses whether Oboromaru will serve under Ryoma or return to the Enma clan.

Post-Chapter

  • Right after making his decision with Sakamoto Ryoma, Oboromaru is kidnapped through time and space by Odio.
  • After the Final Chapter, if Oboromaru did join Ryoma, it is revealed that he has become Ryoma's bodyguard and is seen protecting him from an assassin.

Chapter 4: The Wild West

  • Odio manifests yet again as O. Dio, a horse that was granted a human form from the vengeful spirits of those who died during the Battle of the Little Bighorn. He founds the Crazy Bunch, the criminals that frequently terrorize a town called Success.
  • The Sundown Kid, once a cocky gunslinger with a winning streak, lost his hometown and loved ones to a group of outlaws. Distraught, the cowboy put a bounty on his own head and vanished, seeking death.
  • After an indeterminate amount of time, the bounty hunter Mad Dog seeks to claim the bounty on Sundown's head, and they duel. Sundown wins and escapes by shooting the reins on Mad Dog's horse, making it run off and forcing Mad Dog to chase after it.
  • After another indeterminate amount of time, Sundown finds himself in Success. At the saloon there, he takes down a member of the Crazy Bunch harassing a woman, but then Mad Dog shows up and attempts to claim his bounty again, and they prepare to duel. However, as they do so, they notice some members of the Crazy Bunch watching, and shoot them down. Reasoning that there's a bigger threat on the horizon, Mad Dog calls the duel off until the Crazy Bunch are dealt with.
  • Collaborating with the townsfolk, Mad Dog and Sundown gather supplies and set traps for the Crazy Bunch. Once they arrive, the two cowboys go to fight O. Dio and his goons and eventually gun them down. O. Dio reverts into his original form of a horse, and then wanders off.
  • Sundown and Mad Dog then proceed to have their duel. Either Sundown wins, or he opts to not fight Mad Dog whatsoever. If he spares Mad Dog, Mad Dog leaves, vowing to fight Sundown later.
  • After the duel, Sundown departs from Success and continues wandering, but no longer seeks death, having been reminded of what it was like to do good and protect the innocent.
  • Some indeterminate amount of time later, Mad Dog shows up again riding O. Dio, and challenges Sundown to a duel. Sundown wins yet again, but does not kill Mad Dog, instead settling for repelling him by shooting O. Dio's reins, causing him to run off and forcing Mad Dog to run after him.

Post-Chapter

  • After bidding farewell to Success, Sundown is suddenly kidnapped through time and space by Odio, which leaves his horse running alone.
  • After the Final Chapter, Sundown still roams the desert, and encounters Mad Dog again. In the remake, they are instead seen riding together.
    • If Mad Dog was not spared, Sundown stops his horse for a moment to take off his hat and pay his respects to the bounty hunter.

Chapter 5: Present Day

  • Odio manifests a fifth time as a martial artist named Odie O'Bright.
  • Masaru Takahara, a Japanese mixed martial artist, decides to test himself against six of the strongest fighters in the world. (The following six segments can happen in any order.)
  • Masaru fights Jackie Iaukea, a Hawaiian entertainer who practices sumo wrestling.
  • Masaru fights the Great Aja, a luchador rudo, in his wrestling ring. Partway through the fight, Watanabe's father throws a can at the Great Aja, and Great Aja responds by jumping out of the ring and mauling him.
  • Masaru fights American professional wrestler Max Morgan.
  • Masaru fights Seishi Moribe, an elderly (but powerful) Japanese koppo master.
  • Masaru fights Namkiat, a master of Muay Thai.
  • Masaru fights Tula Han, a Russian CQC expert.
  • At a lakeside, Masaru is confronted by Odie O'Bright. Odie reveals that he fought all six of the fighters Masaru battled, and murdered each of them after defeating them. Outraged, Masaru vows to defeat Odie O'Bright using the techniques he learned from each of his battles.
  • Masaru fights Odie O'Bright and defeats him; showing Odie all the mercy he showed his opponents, Masaru strikes him down.
  • Masaru's quest isn't quite over, though: A new challenger stands ready to challenge him and take his position as the strongest. Masaru is ready to answer the challenge.

Post-Chapter

  • Before Masaru could initiate the fight with the mysterious challenger, he is suddenly whisked away by Odio.
  • After the Final Chapter, Masaru presumably resumed the challenge and comes out victorious. He then packs his belongings and closes his gym, leaving to parts unknown to find a new challenge.

Chapter 6: The Near Future

  • Odio manifests for the sixth time as Odeo and founds a religion for him to rule over.
  • Kenichi Matsui founds the Crusaders, an anti-establishment group that opposed the Japanese Army's newfound power and weaponry.
  • Tadashi Tadokoro confronts Kenichi, offering him a place alongside him to stop the fighting between the factions. A struggle ensues, causing Kenichi to shoot Tadashi and render Tadashi's children Akira and Kaori as orphans. Out of shock and regret, Kenichi leaves the Crusaders, who shortly become grunts for the Japanese Army.
  • Akira and Kaori are brought into the Bright Sparks Orphanage.
  • Kenichi becomes better known as Lawless or Matsu on the streets and opens a taiyaki stand at some point.
  • Matsu manages to get Doc Tobei out from under the thumb of Dr. Livingstill, and Dr. Kozo Watanabe is forcefully turned into LH Combat Unit W1.
  • Years later, Akira, now a rebellious teenager with psychic powers, gets into a skirmish with the Crusaders, only for Matsu to come and help him. Afterwards, Matsu takes Akira back to the Bright Sparks Orphanage, but leaves for an unspecified reason.
  • Kaori is tending to a dying pet turtle named Tarokichi who has a fatal necrotic infection, and after reading her mind, Akira decides to head out and ask Doc Tobei, who now runs the local antiques store, for help.
  • Akira goes to Tobei's store and tells him about Tarokichi. Tobei jumps at the chance to use his prototype teleporter to get there instantly...only for it to explode. Both just go there on foot.
  • Tobei brings a turtle-shaped robot body for Tarokichi, planning to liquefy him to save his life and live on in the robot. The procedure is a success and Tarokichi is renamed Taroimo due to Tobei's Accidental Misnaming. Taroimo is extremely thankful to Akira, opting to follow him around and act in combat.
  • It's nap time for the orphans, but they pester Akira for snacks. Meanwhile, Akira ropes Watanabe in to steal Taeko's panties (or pocket money in the remake). Akira then visits Matsu's taiyaki stand to help serve customers and get free snacks for the orphans.
  • Akira returns to Tobei's store to see what he was so excited about when he ran off from the orphanage and finds him in the basement. Tobei reveals the Steel Titan to Akira, and says that he needs to either find a psychic or use a liquefied human to activate the robot. Akira tells Tobei about his psychic powers and convinces him to let him try, but he fails to activate the machine.
  • Akira returns to the orphanage just in time to witness the Crusaders kidnapping Kazu, one of the orphans. Matsu shows up and gives chase, while Akira commandeers a random passerby's motorcycle to follow suit. They chase the Crusaders to the docks.
  • Akira, Taroimo, and Matsu rescue Kazu from the Crusaders, and Akira reads the mind of one of them to find out what they were doing. He then asks Matsu if he knows of a Tsukuba lab. Matsu doesn't answer, and heads off to the lab.
  • Akira finds his way to the lab and fights his way through security. He joins up with Matsu inside.
  • In the lab, Akira and Matsu find a series of containers containing liquefied humans. They're horrified by what they see, and by what Akira hears when he reads their minds.
  • Akira and Matsu make their way into the VIP room and confront General Yamazaki, Dr. Livingstill, and Priest Unryu. The three men reveal tidbits of their plans before siccing LH Combat Unit W1 upon them. Upon defeating it, W1 urges them to take care of his son at the orphanage—revealing it to be powered by Dr. Watanabe.
  • Horrified and enraged by this revelation, Akira attempts to attack the men, only to be restrained by Matsu. The party reluctantly flees the lab to avoid facing reinforcements.
  • Akira, Matsu, and Tobei regroup at the orphanage. Realizing that there's a conspiracy going on, Tobei explains the issues with the Steel Titan. Kaori volunteers to be liquefied to power it, but is rebuffed by Taeko and her brother. Matsu unsuccessfully talks Tobei into letting him try to activate it. Matsu then heads to the bar where a drug, matango, is sold to drown his sorrows. Akira searches for him.
  • While Akira is out, the Crusaders set the orphanage on fire. Akira makes it back, where the matron tells him that Taeko and Kaori are still inside. He and Taroimo go in, find Taeko, and encourage her to get out. They search the entire building for Kaori, eventually finding her in the orphans' bedroom. By then, it's too late to escape as the building starts to lose its structural integrity.
  • Matsu convinces a skeptical Tobei to let him try to activate the Steel Titan one more time, but this time — to Tobei's horror — he consumes matango to grant him psychokinetic powers. He successfully activates the robot, flies to the orphanage, and punches a hole in the wall for Akira, Taroimo, and Kaori to escape.
  • Unfortunately, the amount of matango Matsu consumed proves to be lethal. In his dying moments, Matsu reveals his past to Akira telepathically, including the fact that he killed his father. Once he passes, Akira orders everyone else in the cockpit to leave, then uses every ounce of psychic power he has to activate the Steel Titan.
  • General Yamazaki, now at the Nippori Temple, mobilizes the military, but they prove no match for the might of the Steel Titan. Akira pilots it to the temple.
  • Yamazaki, Livingstill, and Unryu reveal that they have liquefied 2000 humans and turned them into a lake. They then use them to activate the Great Inko statue for Odeo to inhabit. Akira uses the Steel Titan to fight the statue one-on-one, and manages to destroy it.
  • With Odeo gone, the conspirators find themselves being pulled into the lake of liquefied humans. They almost drag down the Steel Titan, too, but somehow Akira manages to escape.
  • Some time later, Akira wakes up from a nap on a bench in the public park. He has taken over Matsu's taiyaki stand and inherited his motorcycle. Also, he seems to have lost the ability to activate the Steel Titan.
  • The Bright Sparks Orphanage has also been rebuilt, and the orphans are able to return to their normal lives.

Post-Chapter

  • While tending to the customers at Matsu's taiyaki stand, Akira is suddenly kidnapped by Odio through time and space.
  • After the Final Chapter, Akira returns to the Bright Sparks Orphanage, while Taroimo helps Tobei with his (still unsuccessful) teleportation experiments.
  • Sometime after the chapter's events, Tobei managed to make merchandise of the Steel Titan, one of which in mint-condition would be in the hands of Yoshiyuki Kato in the distant future.

Chapter 7: The Distant Future

  • Odio manifests one final time as the Cogito Ergo Sum's Master Computer, OD-10.
  • Many years before the events of this chapter, there was a Robot War. A man named Darthe participated in this war, but watched many of his friends and squadmates die.
  • Before their return voyage to Earth, the crew of the Cogito Ergo Sum take Corporal Darthe as a passenger, with the Behemoth as live cargo.
  • Yoshiyuki Kato builds two prototypes of Cube. Both fail, and one of them is stashed in a storeroom while left inactive.
  • After a long period of stasis, Kato wakes up before the rest of the crew and completes the first functional Cube prototype. He muses about naming them "Roundy", only to decide against that since it wouldn't even be fit for a dog. He settles on "Cube" since it's contradictory to their spherical appearance.
  • To test out his AI, Kato tells Cube to go around the ship and find him outside of the Interface Room so they can register Cube as a new crewmate. Afterwards, Cube helps Kato wake up the other crewmembers — Kirk Wells, Rachel Klein, and Huey Trumbull — and introduce themself.
  • Everyone goes to the break room for briefing. Cube learns how to use the coffee machine and serves everyone, only to get shoved by Darthe due to his hatred of robots. Suddenly, Captain Hor appears on the Break Room screen and gives new orders. Everyone then leaves to perform their duties.
  • Huey and Darthe are in the Cargo Hold, keeping an eye on the ship's main cargo: A monstrous alien called the Behemoth. Darthe guesses that his superiors want it for combat-related purposes and weapon study. Suddenly, everyone is called to the bridge.
  • Rachel has trouble with the communications system, so Kirk and Kato have to go outside to fix the antenna. Kirk and Huey get into a fight at the airlock before Kirk and Kato set out.
  • While Kirk and Kato are on their spacewalk, OD-10 cuts off the life support in Kirk's space suit, and he passes out. Kato brings him back in, but despite the crew's best efforts to save him, Kirk dies in the medical bay.
  • Around this time, OD-10 locks the door to the captain's quarters while Captain Hor is within and kills him. It then makes a recording to impersonate him.
  • While Huey and Darthe are arguing over how well-prepared Kirk's space suit was, they hear an explosion. Everyone rushes to the bridge except Rachel, who gathers Kirk's space suit and takes it with her to her private quarters. The explosion turns out to have been the main antenna on the communication array — presumably courtesy of OD-10 to ensure no one can fix it.
  • Kato and Darthe go to Kirk's quarters to clear out his personal belongings, while Cube roams the ship. When Cube goes into the medical bay, however, they find that Kirk's body is missing. They immediately alert Kato, and everyone rushes to Rachel's quarters.
  • Rachel, driven mad with grief, has taken Kirk's body to her quarters and put it in her bed, acting as if Kirk is merely asleep. When confronted by the rest of the crew, however, she lashes out at Huey, accusing him of plotting Kirk's demise. OD-10 then sends a message to Rachel's terminal, pretending to be Kirk, telling her to open the airlock to reach him, and to do it quickly, before Huey can stop her. She bolts, with the rest of the crew following her and restraining her at the airlock.
  • During the scuffle, OD-10 releases the Behemoth from its container. Cube hears the noise it makes when it's freed, goes to investigate, and is attacked by the creature. Cube manages to escape and alert the rest of the crew that the behemoth is loose. Rachel takes advantage of the distraction to open both airlock doors, nearly sucking Kato and Cube out into space.
  • The crew reconvenes in the break room, where they receive a message from the captain. This time, there's an error and the same video is played on loop before cutting out, which tips them off that something is wrong with the captain. Suddenly, Rachel bolts out of the room, afraid of the Behemoth getting to Kirk's body. Huey goes after her, but Darthe stops Kato before he can do the same. After a minute of waiting, Kato gets fed up and runs out anyway.
  • While in the ship's corridors, Huey and Rachel run into the Behemoth. It attacks Rachel, knocking her unconscious, but Huey willingly throws himself in harm's way to protect her. It leaves him mortally wounded, and he expires shortly after the rest of the crew arrives. They take Huey's body and the unconscious Rachel to the cryo bay while Cube acquires an override code to access the captain's quarters.
  • Cube, Kato, and Darthe attempt to enter the captain's quarters. Kato is forced to resort to using a powered prybar to open the door, which he then gives to Cube. Inside they find the captain's body. Cube leaves and enters Darthe's quarters, where they find secret orders that state, should the Behemoth get loose, the deaths of the crew are acceptable. Cube relays this information to Kato, who accuses Darthe of being responsible, and he and Cube flee.
  • OD-10 rebuilds and reprograms the Cube prototype that Kato left. The robot then goes into the cryo bay and shuts off Rachel's cryo pod, killing her.
  • While fleeing from Darthe, Cube is attacked by the Behemoth and separated from Kato. Cube is forced to run from the Behemoth by taking the elevator to a different level, then returning to level 2 — at which point they spot the impostor. Cube follows their doppelganger into Kato's room, where the doppelganger has injured Kato.
  • Darthe storms into the room and points a gun at Cube, ready to shoot both robots. Kato urges Cube to recall the first name he pondered ("Roundy") to Spot the Impostor. Darthe then blasts the fake, but they get the real culprit's name out of it in the process: OD-10.
  • OD-10 disables the ship's elevators.
  • Darthe and Cube immediately head to the main computer room via the air vents, figuring it's the one safe place on the ship. Unfortunately, Darthe doesn't know how to stop OD-10, so he sends Cube to Kato's room to ask him.
  • Kato tells Cube that their only chance to stop OD-10 without disabling the ship is through a certain interface on board. Unfortunately, he passes out before he can say which one. Cube takes this info to Darthe, and they split up — but Darthe gives Cube a communicator first.
  • Darthe goes to the interface room while Cube searches the ship. Cube eventually comes to the conclusion that the necessary interface is the Captain Square video game in the break room. Darthe uses his own programming knowledge to reroute the arcade cabinet to the main computer, but he gets cornered by the Behemoth in the process.
  • Cube enters the game and confronts OD-10 in the form of its MUR-TH-UR Matrix. Using abilities based off Captain Square's, Cube manages to destroy the MUR-TH-UR Matrix. This allows OD-10 to be successfully quarantined without shutting down the ship, and the computer undergoes a factory reset.
  • Darthe enters the break room, exhausted and injured but alive. He finally manages to bond with Cube, telling them his history, and asks them for a cup of coffee. Cube obliges.

Post-Chapter

  • Kato is taken to the medical bay and makes a full recovery.
  • The Cogito Ergo Sum reaches Earth.
  • Darthe requests and is granted an honorable discharge, and takes a new job building medical robots.
  • The authorities take the Cogito Ergo Sum and Cube into custody for further study. But during the time of study, Cube is kidnapped through time and space by Odio.
  • After the Final Chapter, Cube is released from custody and reunites with Darthe and Kato, the latter giving them a hug.

Finale: The Dominion of Hate

  • Infuriated by his constant defeats, Odio forcibly summons the seven heroes who defeated his incarnations to the now ruined Lucrece in a final bid to prove his misanthropic beliefs are correct. Odio challenges the heroes to survive in his realm long enough to find him.
  • The seven heroes slowly join up with each other and travel throughout the ruined kingdom, searching for a way home. Eventually, they find the Archon's Roost, where Odio is waiting for them.
  • Odio first attempts to break the party's spirits by trying to convince them that humanity isn't worth saving and that even their own heroics were motivated by selfishness rather than virtue. When this fails, he attacks them.
  • After his "Purity" form is defeated, Odio reverts back to Oersted and begs the party to finish him off. The party refuses and attempts to leave. note
  • Enraged, Odio resurrects his incarnations and forces the party to fight them once again. Once again, the incarnations fall, and Odio suffers a Villainous Breakdown as he cannot understand why he can't win and prove that Humans Are Bastards despite having witnessed their sins firsthand.
  • In a fit of mad, desperate rage, Odio summons all the latent hatred throughout reality into himself, transforming into Sin of Odio, a massive armored demon, in a final attempt to kill the party. However, the party's steadfast refusal to give up slowly but surely reawakens Oersted's formerly heroic resolve, and he tears himself out of Odio and strikes the final blow against the Lord of Dark. note
  • Expressing horror and sorrow at what he's done, Oersted asks the party how they were able to hold on to their heroism and idealism despite their own traumatic experiences. After receiving an answer from the party leader, the dying Oersted thanks them for stopping him and returns each hero to their original times, but not before warning them that anyone, anywhere can become a demon if they allow their hatred to consume them.

  • Infuriated by his constant defeats, Odio decides to take matters into his own hands and prepares to undo the heroes' victories.
  • Using the statues of the incarnations as a link, Odio looks into the battles where said incarnations were killed and takes direct control of them.
  • One by one, the heroes fall to the Odio-controlled villains.
  • Once the last hero has been vanquished, Odio basks in his victory. But his joy is short-lived, as he realizes he has no one to share that victory with, desperately calling for someone, anyone, to believe in him.
  • Odio spends the rest of his days, presumably forever, wandering through the now empty Lucrece with nothing but his own misery to keep him company.

Or, alternatively to that...

  • Despite taking direct control of his incarnations, Odio is still incapable of defeating the heroes.
  • Backed into a corner and unwilling to let the heroes win a second time, he casts the "Armageddon" spell, which causes all his incarnations to detonate in an all-consuming explosion.
  • All of reality (except, perhaps, the Dominion of Hate) is destroyed.
