The series can be watched on YouTube and on Viki with English subtitles.

Contains examples of:

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Pan Er's death is surprisingly sad. Especially since she's killed by her father shortly after saving Yi Huai.
  • All Love Is Unrequited / Love Dodecahedron: Pan Er loves Yi Huai, who loves Tan Er, who's been replaced by Xiao Tan, who loves the original Lian Cheng. Meanwhile the alternate Lian Cheng is also in love with Xiao Tan, while Le Xi is in love with the original Lian Cheng.
  • Alternate Self: When present-day Lian Cheng travels into the new timeline he discovers its version of himself is still there.
  • Amnesiac Lover: At the start Xiao Tan's lost her memories of Lian Cheng.
  • And Now You Must Marry Me: Yi Huai tries to force Xiao Tan to marry him after he usurps the throne.
  • A Rare Sentence: "How did that Smurf fall in love with you?" (Context: Xiao Tan isn't pleased to hear Le Xi wants to marry Lian Cheng/"Liu Shang", and since Le Xi wears blue Xiao Tan calls her a Smurf.)
  • Arranged Marriage: Between Yi Huai and Pan Er.
  • Babies Ever After: Once again Lian Cheng and Xiao Tan have a baby at the end of the series.
  • "Blind Idiot" Translation: Like the first series the YouTube subtitles have very poor grammar, like translating a line as "I may broke" when it should read "I may have broken".
  • Decadent Court: Downplayed compared to most depictions of imperial Chinese courts, but Noble Consort Dugu and her allies are planning to destroy the kingdom from within, and their schemes include attempting to assassinate the emperor.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Pan Er and the emperor both die in Yi Huai's arms.
  • Died on Their Birthday: The emperor poisons himself on his birthday.
  • Driven to Suicide: The emperor poisons himself after Yi Huai's rebellion.
  • Fake Pregnancy: Noble Consort Dugu pretends to be pregnant and gets a doctor to go along with her story.
  • Gratuitous English:
    • Xiao Tan says "Go die". Jing Xin overhears her, doesn't know what it means, and assumes she's wishing someone happiness.
    • Xiao Tan writes a letter mostly in English with a few words of Chinese scattered through it.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: Xiao Tan says "Sayonara" to a very confused Jing Xin.
  • Hates Being Touched: The timeline's original Lian Cheng dislikes physical contact.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Minister Qu dies when he falls on a sword.
  • Interrupted Suicide: Yi Huai is about to kill himself when Lian Cheng interrupts.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Le Xi loves "Liu Shang" (Lian Cheng in disguise), but she sees he loves Xiao Tan so she helps the two of them be together.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Xiao Tan has forgotten all of the first series' events.
  • Latex Perfection: The present-day Lian Cheng uses a mask to disguise himself as Liu Shang. Justified, since Qian Shui used magic to create the mask.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: Every male character has long hair and most of them are very pretty.
  • Meet Cute: Invoked. Lian Cheng deliberately recreates the first time he met Xiao Tan, though this time he catches her instead of letting her fall.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Xiao Tan and Jing Xuan assume Lian Cheng is gay and Liu Shang is his lover. Unknown to them Liu Shang is Lian Cheng.
  • Mistaken Identity: There are two versions of Lian Cheng in Dongyue — the present-day Lian Cheng and the timeline's original Lian Cheng. Hilarity Ensues when Xiao Tan mistakes the original Lian Cheng, who doesn't know who she is, for the present-day Lian Cheng.
  • Offing the Offspring: Minister Qu does this accidentally when Pan Er gets in the way of his fight with Lian Cheng.
  • Parental Marriage Veto: The emperor refuses to let Yi Huai marry Tan Er because she's a concubine's daughter. Instead he orders Yi Huai to marry her legitimate half-sister.
  • Please Wake Up: After Tan Er's death Jing Xin begs her to wake up.
  • Right Behind Me: Xiao Tan and Jing Xin are laughing at Lian Cheng when Lian Cheng walks up behind them. Jing Xin sees him and tries to warn Xiao Tan without speaking. Xiao Tan thinks she's imitating Lian Cheng and praises her for how accurate her portrayal is.
  • Royally Screwed Up: The emperor puts his oldest son under house arrest for wanting to marry for love, while Noble Consort Dugu is actively trying to destroy Dongyue as vengeance for Yi Feng destroying her homeland.
  • Shoulders of Doom: After his Faceā€“Heel Turn Yi Huai starts wearing clothes with large shoulder pads.
  • Shout-Out: Xiao Tan calls Le Xi a Smurf.
  • Sibling Triangle: Yi Huai loves Tan Er but is forced to marry her half-sister Pan Er instead.
  • Split-Personality Merge: The original and alternate versions of Lian Cheng merge into one.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: The universe really has a grudge against Yi Huai and Tan Er. They couldn't be together in the first series, and even though this series takes place in a new timeline they still can't be together.
  • Sweet Polly Oliver: Xiao Tan disguises herself as Liu Shang to convince Le Xi not to marry Liu Shang/Lian Cheng.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: The empress dowager was a villain in the first series but becomes much more heroic in this one.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Minister Qu was a villain in the first series, but a relatively minor one. Here he's one of the main villains and is determined to get his hands on the soul-suppression orb.
  • Two-Person Love Triangle: Played with, since in this case there are three people involved but two of them are different versions of the same person. The original Lian Cheng and his Alternate Self fall in love with Xiao Tan, while Xiao Tan is in love with the original Lian Cheng but (at first) can't tell them apart.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?:
    • The real Tan Er never appears after Xiao Tan takes up residence in her body. It's uncertain if she died or was sent to Xiao Tan's original body.
    • Xiao Tan and Lian Cheng's baby from the first series is never seen and rarely mentioned, giving the impression his parents have simply forgotten all about him.
