    What If Cell Turned Good?

Android 21

A version of the Cell from the present timeline. Rather than being blown up by Future Trunks and Krillin, Bulma decides to take control of the project and program Present Cell with more positive traits. Despite being the subject of the what if, he isn't a Cell who had a Heel–Face Turn.

Doesn't have any connection to the canon Android 21. He is simply called as such because he was the next android after Gero/Android 20, and Bulma didn't know about 21 when naming him.

  • Alternate Self: The present timeline counterpart to the Cell who served as an Arc Villain.
  • Anti Anti Christ: Designed to be a bioweapon of mass destruction, but thanks to Bulma he grows to be a friendly bug man
  • Assimilation Backfire: Drank Dabura out of desperation for a power boost, however his demonic essence survived and tries to hijack his body.
  • Cuddle Bug: He's a hugger, even in his monstrous-looking Imperfect 21 form.
  • Golden Super Mode: Like the Saiyans and Freeza, 21 eventually manages to achieve his own golden (well, bronze) mode.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Asks Krillin to slice him in half to wrestle control away from Dabura. Fortunately he can regenerate his bottom half, but unfortunately the cut off bottom half fully regenerates in a Cell-based Dabura.
  • Manchild: Takes after Goku in being rather childish. Of course he is technically a child
  • Nice Guy: Pretty much the polar opposite of the main Cell. Justified; when redesigning him Bulma made sure Goku's friendliness and heart stands out.
  • Redeeming Replacement: Was reprogrammed by Bulma to serve as a good guy version of Cell.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Bulma ultimately decides to give Present Cell a chance at life, given it hasn't done anything wrong yet.
  • Truly Single Parent: Like some of his genetic donors and the main Cell, 21 asexually reproduces kids.
  • Vegetarian Vampire: His ability to drink people couldn't be removed, however Android 21 is able to substitute it with Senzu Beans.
  • Younger Than They Look: Reaches maturity even earlier than the main Cell. By the time of the Majin Buu arc he's only seven.

Android 21's family

Android 21's "siblings" Android 17 and 18, along with 21's offspring. The twins are initially hesitant to work with 21 given the crimes of the original Cell.

  • Family Theme Naming: 21's children are named after cell and genetic-related words like their dad.
  • Godzilla Threshold: As much as they hate it, Android 17 and 18 allow 21 to absorb them and become Perfect to fight against Super Buu with Gohan absorbed.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: The original Cell isn't 21's literal father, but Android 17 and 18 resent 21 for the crimes of his older counterpart. Eventually they reconcile and see 21 as his own person.

Dabura

Initially The Dragon to Babidi, Dabura finds himself to a desperate Android 21 needing to drink him. Unfortunately his demonic essence still survives within 21 and has plans of his own.

    What If Freeza Turned Good?

Freeza

The subject of the what if, rather than trying to backstab Goku as soon as possible Freeza convinces him to be

  • Affectionate Nickname: Called "Droidy boy" by Cuit
  • Break the Haughty: In addition to his humiliation from the fight with Goku, he is rejected by his own father and forced to become a traveler just to make ends meat.
  • Cain and Abel: The older Abel to Trogen's Cain, though he is ultimately the one to kill Trogen.
  • Cyborg: As in canon he has his lower half, left arm and part of his face replaced with cybernetics. Thanks to Cuit his robot parts become sleeker and more effective.
  • Golden Super Mode: Manages to achieve his Golden Freeza form earlier, though it is less powerful than canon because it can't count for his cybernetics.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Despite his Heel–Face Turn Freeza maintains much of his smug attitude.
  • Heel–Face Turn: While he's not an outright hero, he still becomes a far better person than the Galactic Conqueror he used to be.
  • How The Mighty Has Fallen: Freeza is heavily injured, rejected by his father and has his empire taken away from him. It's this humbling environment that leads to the path towards his redemption.
  • Keeping the Handicap: While the option to restore his body is there, Freeza ultimately chooses to keep his cybernetics as a reminder of his history and personal growth.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Matures to this by the end of the arc. He remains stand-offish and rude to his former enemies, but has come to genuinely care for his friends(even if he doesn't like to admit it) and has abandoned his evil ways.

Cheelai and Cuit

Freeza's allies when he hits rock bottom, initially just trying to make by with them. Ultimately he comes to like them.

King Cold

The father of Freeza and King Cold, who ends up disowning him for TBA.

  • Abusive Parents: Emotionally dismissive to his sons if they fail to live up to his expectations, outright making a replacement without caring about how Freeza would feel.
  • Asshole Victim: Murdered by his new son Trogen. As a galactic conqueror who practically abandoned his children for disappointing him, no-one is sad to see him go. Freeza and Cooler are only concerned by the brutality of it.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: He is ultimately killed by the more ruthless replacement he made for Frieza.
  • Truly Single Parent: Reproduced his three sons by genetic engineering, with no mate needed.

Cooler

The oldest son of King Cold, who he ultimately considers a failure and chose Freeza for his heir.

  • A Lighter Shade of Black: He remains a villain, but unlike Trogen he's level-headed and actually has a sense of responsibility.
  • Cain and Abel: Despite being evil, he manages to be the older Abel to Trogen's Cain.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: As much as he hated his father, he's disgusted to learn that Trogen would commit patricide on to get rid of him. He is further disgusted by Trogen's extremely unstable personality.
  • Enemy Mine: Him and Vegeta may not trust each other, but they team up to face off against King Cold. After killing him, Trogen becomes their new enemy.
  • Flawed Prototype: King Cold considers Cooler this as he was too similar to Cold himself for his liking.
  • The Starscream: Plans to overthrow his father with Vegeta's help, however Trogen beats him to it.
  • Villain Respect: Comes to respect Vegeta's strength and decides not to kill him.

Trogen

Freeza's replacement, Trogen was meant to be his Superior Successor, who'd live up to Cold's standards. Unfortunately for everyone, he wasn't content to play The Dragon for his dad.

  • Ax-Crazy: Extremely unstable and prone to violence in order to get what he wants immediately. He makes canon Freeza seem well-grounded by comparison.
  • Bad Boss: Manages to be even more frivolous and uncaring to his own men than Freeza used to be.
  • Cain and Abel: The younger Cain to Freeza and Cooler's older Abel.
  • Eviler than Thou: He is worse than his brother Cooler or even Freeza before his Heel–Face Turn started, being far more unstable and prone to violence.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Intended to be a more ruthless and evil Freeza by King Cold, which inevitably led to him killing Cold.
  • Family Name Theming: More subtle compared to his family, but he's named after a cold substance like them; liquid nitrogen.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Downplayed; Trogen tries to come off as cordial, but unlike Freeza who could put up a convincing façade Trogen's politeness can barely hide how insane he is.
  • Kinslaying Is a Special Kind of Evil: Bad as King Cold was, the fact that Trogen would murder his own father is treated as abhorrent by everyone, even his brothers who came to hate their dad.
  • Patricide: Kills his own father when he tries to restrain him.
  • Shadow Archetype: Trogen is Freeza had his Sanity Slippage and cruelty continued, rather than him maturing as a person.
  • The Sociopath: While Freeza in canon is a high-functioning sociopath, Trogen is a low-functioning example. He has an sense of superiority, is violent yet intelligent, manipulative and lacks any impulse control or sense of responsibility.
  • Superior Successor: What he's meant to be; a more effective Freeza in personality and power. Ultimately, however, Freeza defeats him due to personal growth.
  • Younger Than They Look: Was more or less Born as an Adult, and by the time he's killed off in the Android Saga he can't be older than 4.

    What If Nappa Turned Good?

Nappa

The subject of the What If?. Rather than being killed by Vegeta, his life is spared by Goku. In gratitude, he becomes the Son family's guardian and bodyguard. The Bad Future has its own Nappa, Future Nappa, who takes Trunks' spot unlike most what ifs where Future Trunks' arrival is a constant.

  • Adaptational Intelligence: While Nappa still has his stupid moments like thinking Future Nappa is an imposter, he proves more clever than the original Nappa. He even manages to get his driver's license before Goku.
  • Alternate Self: Asides from being a "what if" to the canon Nappa, this Nappa has a Future counterpart in the Bad Future that fills the role of Future Trunks in canon.
  • Artificial Limbs: Future Nappa has a robot arm due to losing the original to the androids.
  • Berserk Button: He may be reformed, but Nappa is dangerous when pissed. And he really doesn't like being reminded of when he was a bad guy.
  • Character Development: Along with becoming a good guy, Nappa grows from Dumb Muscle on the hero's side to being Older and Wiser.
  • December–December Romance: After spending most of the what if Married to the Job, the now elderly Nappa becomes partners with the similarly elderly Kafe.
  • Dopplemerger: Present and Future Nappa eventually permanently combine into a single strong fighter.
  • Forgiveness: Eventually comes to forgive Vegeta for what he's done, just in time to have him join in the Super Saiyan God ritual
  • Fusion Dance: Nappa and Gohan Potara fuse into Naphan to face off against Super Buu. He and Future Nappa also end up fusing, eventually wishing on Shenron to make it permanent.
  • Future Badass: Future Nappa is a lot smarter and more powerful than Present Nappa when he shows up.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Originally Vegeta's loyal sidekick, being saved by Goku leads to him becoming an ally of the Z Fighters.
  • Honorary Uncle: Fills the role of Gohan and Goten's surrogate uncle. The two end up growing close despite their past history.
  • I Hate Past Me: Future Nappa initially get off on the wrong foot with Present Nappa as the latter thinks the former is an imposter. More seriously, both Nappas comes to see what their old Space Pirate self stood for was wrong.
  • Odd Friendship: Him and Goku make a good team, as do him and Android 17 between the Cell and Buu arcs. Who knew an alien brute and cyborg rebel would get along.
  • Older Than They Look: Despite not looking like it, Nappa is one of the oldest members of the Z Fighters being that he was already an adult when Goku was born. It's only late into the timeline that age finally catches up with him. Future Nappa avoids this thanks to cybernetics, and later the two fuse in part to keep their vitality.
  • Undying Loyalty: Used to have this for Vegeta. Because Goku saved his life he has become dedicated to the protection of him and his family.

Son family

Son Goku and his family. Thanks to Goku sparing Nappa from Vegeta, the big Saiyan grows to be part of their extended family.

  • Adaptation Expansion: Goten has a much larger role thanks to Trunks not existing in this timeline and Nappa training him.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Though he doesn't outright become a villain, Gohan becomes far more frustrated with his family and takes Majin Vegeta's role in the timeline.
  • Fusion Dance: Gohan and Nappa end up fusing into Naphan to fight Super Buu.
  • Odd Friendship: Goku and Nappa may not have a formal friendship, but as a retainer and manservant to the family they're more or less friends.

Vegeta

Like in canon Vegeta eventually turns on Nappa, however as he survives here he becomes a Spanner in the Works for the Prince of All Saiyans. While Nappa becomes a better person, his and Vegeta's relationship is still very contentious.

  • Adaptational Wimp: Never reaches the power levels of his canon self. When he's revived in the Battle Of Gods arc, he's Namek-level Vegeta.
  • Back from the Dead: Dies on Namek, only to eventually be revived years later to complete the Super Saiyan God family.
  • Demoted to Extra: Nappa supplants his role as the reformed villain, eventually leading to him dying on Namek.

What if Zamasu Did Nothing Wrong

Zamasu

An apprentice Kaioshin, Zamasu starts being cynical towards mortals. Rather than come to the conclusion that mortals are bad and should be exterminated,

Decraf

A particularly crafty Babari who seems to know more about the world than other Babari. He shows a lot more nerve to Zamasu than most mortals.

Universe 10 gods

Zamasu's master Gowasu, the God of Destruction Rumsshi and his angel Kusu. Given their skeptical outlook towards interference, Zamasu does much of his work without them knowing and once he's caught has to convince them otherwise.

  • Alien Non-Interference Clause: They're very much against the idea of Zamasu intervening as much as he is, though they are slightly more convinced upon seeing the results.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Rumsshi is no slouch himself in power, but he should know that being overly vindictive to someone with great promise as a Destroyer.
  • The Paranoiac: Rumsshi becomes increasingly paranoid of Zamasu.
  • Properly Paranoid: Rumsshi is overly paranoid towards Zamasu and disagrees with his methods, but given he's still acting maverick for a Kaioshin apprentice and is making a possible replacement without being informed first it's not unfair for him to feel that way.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Gowasu and Kusu are more reasonable and understanding leaders than the maverick Zamasu or temperamental Rumsshi.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Rumsshi eventually comes to respect Decraf instead of hating him, owing his life to Zamasu's sacrifice.
