Storm Nexus is a unique twist on the decades old Dragonriders of Pern series. Picking and choosing elements from high fantasy and the Dune series, as well as a few entirely unique twists, it crafts a complex and rich play-by-post experience.

Three Turns ago, Pern's ancient and eternal predator, the lethal and agressive spore known as Thread, began to fall from the sky in the wake of the Red Star's orbit. After two hundred Turns of peace, the threat was well prepared for, but draining on the Dragonriders, unique persons bound by mind and soul to the towering, fire beathing masters of Pern's skies.

However, while Thread was something that could be prepared and planned for, the strange surge in mutations among dragonkind, as well as the sudden and fierce aggression of travelling bands of raiders who before now have never been unified under a single banner may well spell the end of Plateau Weyr, and the holds that depend on its protection.

Will you play a vicious, quick thinking raider? A noble intentioned but often prideful dragonrider? A powerful, stern wherhandler? A simple crafter trying to make their way in this dangerous new world?

What of these rumours that the raiders are working under the discretion of the Lord of Hilltop Hold? And the disturbing trend of rising insanity among riders?

We have a monetary system in place to reward active members, and a fully stocked shop of options that would enable your character to ride any caste of dragon, as well as pick up smaller wherries and wyverns among other creatures as pets.

If you're interested, we would love the chance to persuade you, or to answer any questions you might have!

This Dragonriders of Pern Fan Role Play provides examples of:

  • Adventure-Friendly World: One of the current plots is a great example of this in action. (rebel weyr)
  • Armor-Piercing Question: M'ri to Koten. "What do you want to do, when you do Impress? Do you want to be strong?"
  • Badass Normal: Many of the non-riders fall into this.
  • Bond Creatures: Dragons and whers, as you would expect from a Pern site.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: T'kai comes off as this fairly often, as does her dragon.
  • Cowardly Lion: Gluminduth is very insecure in day-to-day life, but becomes a determined warrior during Threadfall.
  • Cursed with Awesome: T'kai's perfect memory makes it so that she can't forget anything, ever. This includes things like her friends dying during weyrling training.
  • Dragon Rider: Kind of goes without saying.
  • Emotionless Girl: M'ri, to some extent.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Therioi exemplify this. Rotting meat, vegetables, metal, rocks... there's little they can't eat.
  • For Science!: Kias. Full stop. Generally fairly harmless, if extremely weird.
  • Genki Guy: Io. All day, every day.
  • Half-Truth: Sh'kal doesn't lie outright, but employs the use of these often enough.
    • Amuneht also employs this, though she finds actual lying distasteful.
  • Hates Being Touched: M'ri is not fond of physical contact with anyone except Tytureth.
  • Hive Mind: Dragons have something like it going on in this setting, albeit while retaining individual personalities.
  • I Thought Everyone Could Do That: Qir and her ability to hear the mental chatter of firelizards.
    • Also Navielth with her ability to hear all humans.
  • Interspecies Friendship: This crops up quite often with three sentient humanoid species. Not to mention the dragons.
  • Interspecies Romance: Has also been noted. Th'lom (human) and Lachlan (Therioi) jump to mind as an example.
  • Lack of Empathy: Keroth has this trait, but doesn't seem particularly malicious.
    • As do Amuneht and Tytureth. While the former is generally benevolent, the latter is unfortunately quite malicious indeed.
    • M'kor and Morgoth have it as well. Aside from the part where they want to take over the world and enjoy slaughtering things, they actually manage to be rather personable and non-destructive, if highly power-hungry.
  • Lethal Harmless Powers: Io doesn't enjoy fighting, necessarily, but he's damn good at it. Seeing as his wound-healing talent requires energy, and he's better at pulling that energy form living targets than the sun, and all.
  • Long-Lived: Bonding to a dragon extends the rider's life, and the higher the caste the longer the lifespan.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Tytureth is most definitely this.
    • As are M'kor and Morgoth, though more of a "make you do things because you like me" type. An eventual confrontation is inevitable.
  • Matriarchy: The Therioi have this, as a standard Patriarchy Flip.
  • Nervous Wreck: Gluminduth. Good lord, Gluminduth.
  • Tap on the Head: Runs-In-Darkness delivers one to Kotenaria, who promptly passes out. Whether or not she will wake up at all, however, remains to be seen.
  • The Alcoholic: J'saang is this, though recently he's been trying to go cold turkey.
  • The Gad Fly: Amuneht is this, both because of her personal ideology and because it's incredibly fun.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Most if not all Therioi are capable of this, as are a number of humans, dragonkin and Ferali.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: The Ferali were created as a servitor species with this trope firmly in place.
