Go To

Episode - Season 6, Special 04 (Production Code: S04)

First Aired - January 19, 2015

Dr. Killinger stands before a fireplace, addressing the Revenge Society in their run-down mansion headquarters. He recaps the training that the members have been undergoing for the past several months. Fat Chance can now control his belly button portal, Prof. Impossible can now use his stretching powers as a form of shapeshifting, Baron Ünderbheit can now launch his metal jaw like a boomerang, and two new recruits have been added to the Society: Radical Left and Zero.

As Killinger explains to Phantom Limb, who is disgruntled by Killinger's apparent takeover of the Society's leadership, that he is not there to usurp Limb's authority, someone unlocks the front door of the mansion. The Society flees.

Outside, The Monarch, his wife, and Henchman #21 are remarking on the state of the mansion, which is the Monarch's childhood home. A jet, containing the Revenge Society, takes off from behind the mansion and flies away.

The scene switches to an promotional video for Jonas Jr.'s Gargantua-2 luxury resort space station. Rusty and Dean are watching it while aboard a shuttle to Gargantua-2. Also on the shuttle are Hank, Billy Quizboy, Billy's mother (Rose,) the Action Man, and Col. Gentleman (who is arguing with the service robots.)

In another ship, Brock and Amber Gold are on their way to Gargantua-2 in order to covertly protect JJ and the space station as JJ has refused official O.S.I. protection. They also reveal that among JJ's many investors for Gargantua-2 is a company linked to the Investors, who the O.S.I. have been after for some time. In the back of the ship are a rich Texan and his mistress, who Brock and Amber will be impersonating for the mission.

Back in his mansion, The Monarch is complaining about the state of the place and that "squatters" had apparently moved in. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch becomes upset talking about how she misses the Moppets, who were apparently killed when their former home was destroyed. She is interrupted by her Guild communicator going off. The Sovereign has called for a meeting of the Council of Thirteen, of which she is now a member. She gets into a Guild car to take her to the meeting.

Elsewhere, the other members of the Council of Thirteen are being killed off. Steppenwolf's and the unnamed ant-masked Councilman #10 are killed when their car explodes as Steppenwolf turns the key. Don Hell is killed in his night club by a poisoned drink. Wild Fop is killed by his own dogs. The Nerve is found broken in a grocery store dumpster.

In the O.S.I. Heli-carrier, General Gathers is discovering that each council member that they've identified is either being killed or going missing. He believes that the Sovereign is onto him and killing off the Council as a result.

On Gargantua-2, the Ventures and friends are checking in. Brock and Amber Gold are also present, in disguise. They have a camera linked back to the O.S.I. Heli-carrier. Sgt. Hatred is still at the Venture Compound, complaining to Rusty that the power has gone out.

In the Guild Council room, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch joins in as Mommy Longlegs speaks uncontrollably "in the language of her people" to Phineas Phage. Monsenor joins in as well just as the Sovereign appears. The Sovereign begins talking about how they are all about to witness the Guild's "finest hour." He reveals his plan to take over Gargantua-2 to the stunned Council.

Dr. Killinger leads the Revenge Society into their new home: Meteor Majeure. It is a literal meteor and the former headquarters of Force Majeure, the former Sovereign of the Guild before the current David Bowie impersonator. After debating the semantics of calling it a "meteor" while still floating in outer space, they reveal their plan to take over Gargantua-2.

In his mansion, The Monarch and #21 fail to find a place willing to deliver food to their crummy neighborhood. They check the fridge, only to find it fully stocked with fine foods. When #21 begins to cut into a loaf of bread with a specific brand of knife, the Monarch realizes that Phantom Limb had been living there. Monarch finds blueprints for Gargantua-2, realizing that Phantom Limb is planning something with the station. He and #21 prepare to go to space.

Rusty and Billy are arguing over having to share the same small room aboard Gargantua-2. A robot then arrives to announce there has been a mistake, and takes Billy to a much nicer room, much to Rusty's lament.

In Brock's room, he and Amber Gold are watching a Shallow Gravy video, discussing Brock's relationship with Hank. They hear someone outside the room, and discover that it's Hank, who recognized his music. He realizes that they are on a secret mission, but Brock kicks him out of the room, telling him to pretend he never saw them.

In the Guild Council chambers, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch points out that the Sovereign's plan violates numerous treaties with the O.S.I. The rest of the council agrees, with Phage trying to resign. The Sovereign "accepts all of their resignations," and begins pumping poison gas into the Council chambers. Watch and Ward appear on Dr. Mrs. The Monarch's screen with instructions on how to escape. They call themselves "the Guild Resistance."

The Monarch and #21 are at the airport, with #21 pointing out how bad of an idea it is to go to space "just to chase around Dr. Venture." The Monarch says it's not about that, revealing that he wants to "thwart" Phantom Limb, the Guild's most wanted fugitive, in hopes that doing so will get the Sovereign to put him on the Council of Thirteen.

Elsewhere in the airport, Red Mantle, Dragoon, and Dr. Z are in disguise trying to catch a flight.

On Gargantua-2, the guests are in the casino. Rusty complains about his treatment on the space station by his brother. Dean mentions that no one has seen JJ since they got there, and Rusty decides to go find him "to give him a piece of [his] mind." Brock and Amber enter just as Rusty leaves.

Rusty enters JJ's office to find him there with Billy, who was giving JJ a medical exam. Billy leaves after saying "I'm sorry," to JJ. JJ surprises Rusty by jumping onto him to give him a hug. JJ reminisces about the day he was "born," and then reveals to Rusty that he is dying. Suddenly, the Investors enter the office. JJ says he'll "review those terms" later.

The Investors then appear in the casino, where Brock sees them. However, they do not show up on the camera feed back to the O.S.I. heli-carrier. They reveal Brock to security, led by the Pirate Captain, who arrest Brock for "trespassing" despite his protests. Hank overhears while he is gambling.

Outside Gargantua-2, Hector and Swifty are aboard a shuttle, having discovered something unusual outside the space station. As they bring it aboard, Fat Chance and Prof. Impossible are hitching a ride on the back of the shuttle.

The "UFO" found by Hector and Swifty is brought to a medical exam room for JJ and Billy to examine. On the table lies the frozen body of General Treister.

Phantom Limb is in the bathroom aboard Meteor Majeure when the Sovereign's holographic head appears before him. He asks Limb if "Operation Backdoor" is proceeding as planned. After revealing that it is, Limb asks the Sovereign about what will happen to the rest of the Revenge Society "afterward." The Sovereign says that they will all be welcome on the Council of Thirteen.

At the Guild HQ, the surviving council members, led by Dr. Mrs. The Monarch, attempt to escape. They are attacked by a slaughterbot and Mommy Long Legs is killed. Watch and Ward are controlling two Diamond Dogs and use them to destroy the slaughterbot.

Billy and JJ are examining Treister, revealing that he was "flash frozen" and alive, but hit with untold amounts of cosmic radiation. Just as they are about to unplug him, he wakes up. Billy moves to sedate him, but this causes Treister to freak out and run away. JJ alerts security and chases after, while Billy goes to gamble.

At the Venture Compound, Monarch and #21 arrive. They find bills piling up in the mailbox and the power turned off. Monarch sees that Venture hasn't paid his electric bill and complains that they won't able to launch Venture's space shuttle without power. Luckily, #21 knows how to turn on the generator.

Beneath the compound, Sgt. Hatred is with the Order of the Triad trying to figure out how to restore the power. They are surprised when the power suddenly turns back on. They emerge just as Monarch and #21 take off in Venture's old space ship. On the ground, the ignition lights a trail of gasoline left by the Monarch, which forms a flaming Monarch symbol.

Back on Gargantua-2, the Revenge Society emerges from Fat Chance's portal. Limb goes to the bridge, takes out the robots, and takes over the station's security. The rest of the Society attacks the casino floor. Ünderbheit and Zero head to the vault, where Brock and Amber are imprisoned, to rob the place. Zero comments not to talk to "that O.S.I. scum," still sore from when Brock nearly killed him. In the Casino, Hank, Rose, the Action Man, and Col. Gentleman make a plan to save the day.

Monarch and #21 are playing 20 Questions during their space flight when Dr. Mrs. The Monarch calls. She reveals the Sovereign's plan to destroy the station only to discover that The Monarch is on his way there. The call drops while she reveals a bullet wound on her stomach.

Phantom Limb returns to the bridge to activate the self-destruct mechanism. Before he does, the Investors appear. They confirm that the Sovereign asked Limb to destroy the station, and when he says yes, they thank him and cause a meltdown themselves.

Back in the casino, Gentleman, the Action Man, and Rose attack. At the same time, Sally Impossible confronts Prof. Impossible, distracting him. In the vault, Brock remembers Zero and goads him into a fight. Through the cell bars, Brock snaps Zero's neck just as Hank arrives to rescue him.

Outside, Gargantua-2 enters an asteroid field and it's revealed that the meltdown has caused the station's ray shields to go down. Limb realizes that he has been double crossed, or possibly "triple," while JJ tries to summon the bridge on his communicator to no avail. He instructs Rusty and Dean to go reset the shields. As they do a "Go Team Venture!" Treister shows up and offers his help as well.

As the O.S.I. headquarters, Dr. Z, Red Mantle, and Dragoon arrive. They offer General Gathers the location of the Sovereign in exchange for immunity.

In the Sovereign's headquarters, a wounded Dr. Mrs. The Monarch arrives to confront him. He is in the form of Jonas Venture Sr., but she is not fooled and wants nothing to do with his villain cliches. He shifts back to his David Bowie form and activates the self-destruct mechanism of the lair. She asks for a last request: to spare Gargantua-2 and her husband. He refuses, saying that the station must be destroyed to take out the Investors, to whom he owes his position of Sovereign. He flees, leaving Dr. Mrs. The Monarch bleeding and trapped.

At the Venture compound, the Monarch's fire has spread to every building. Hatred and the Triad try to fight it as they wait for the fire brigade. As the firetrucks arrive, the compound's reactivated security system turns on and starts shooting at them, much to Hatred's dismay.

JJ and Treister attempt to break through the security doors, but fail. Treister reveals that the cosmic radiation has given him superpowers and "Hulks out" to break through the door. Outside, Rusty and Dean are trying to manually restart the ray shields, but cannot. As Treister arrives to protect them from asteroids, Dean has an idea: the interns who build the ray shield had two-sets of arms, and they realize that the manual reset switch requires four arms. They restart the shields. JJ congratulates them, but is cut off by alarms warning him of a core meltdown.

Killinger solemnly watches the destruction from Meteor Majeure as the Investors appear behind him. He names them and calls them "his brothers." He says that they have "forgotten their places" and that "they were never meant to rule over these mortals." The Investors draw light sabers and tell Killinger that he will die with his precious mortals. He draws his umbrella, and prepares to fight them.

In the casino, everyone prepares to die. Rose reveals her past as a "professional dancer" to Billy just as the power kicks back on and JJ announces an evacuation. The Pirate Captain leads everyone to the escape pods. Col. Gentleman, his hip having been broken during his fight with Fat Chance, tells them to leave him as he would only slow them down, but is picked up by one of the robots he has been insulting and fighting with the whole episode and carried to safety.

Meanwhile, the other members of the Revenge Society confront Limb about his secret deal with the Sovereign. Sally approaches and demands that Prof. Impossible leave with her. She isn't taking him back, but doesn't want their son to lose his father. Killinger is still battling the Investors aboard the meteor.

In the Sovereign's lair, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch tries to escape but cannot. Watch and Ward break through the ceiling as the self-destruct timer ticks down. They reveal controls for an escape pod in the couch and use it to escape seconds before the lair explodes. Outside, the O.S.I. is moving in and the explosion causes Head Shot to accidentally fire his sniper rifle into the air. As Shoreleave berates him, an eagle (the Sovereign) falls dead into the water.

JJ gives his last orders to the Pirate Captain and tells him that he plans to go down with the space station. He realizes that the escape pods won't make it far enough before the station explodes, so he tells "Treister Hulk" that he has "one more thing to smash."

The Monarch and #21 finish their game of 20 Questions, with the Monarch guessing correctly (Lance Burton) as they go toward their impending doom. Monarch gets a call from Dr. Mrs. The Monarch as she arrives with Watch and Ward to rescue him with the Sovereign's escape pod (which also apparently flies in outer space.)

Killinger continues his battle with the Investors, having successfully killed two of them as The Monarch and crew arrive aboard the meteor, where it is revealed that the lightsaber battle was a form of psychic duel. The appearance of The Monarch and crew distracts the remaining investor, where Killinger stabs him in the chest with his umbrella. He tells them that they arrived "just in time", and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch falls to the ground from her injury.

JJ exchanges his final words with Rusty and Dean, who are still in space suits outside of the station. Treister rips the core out of the station, with JJ inside, and they fly it away from the Earth. Brock appears behind Rusty and Dean in his ship, ready to take them away. As they fly back toward Earth, the core explodes in the background, safely away from the other escape pods.

After a Star Wars style credits sequence, The Stinger shows Dr. Killinger removing the bullet from Dr. Mrs. The Monarch, saving her life. Fat Chance's portal opens up next to them, and Phantom Limb and Radical Left fall through it onto the floor. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch angrily asks what Limb is doing there. Killinger explains that they are all exactly where they are supposed to be, and that this day has tested each of them. Limb begins to say that he has failed, but Killinger tells him that Limb has not, and that Limb only ever wanted to be on the Council of Thirteen. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch says that the Council is no more, but Killinger explains that there are thirteen chairs in this room. As Monarch excitedly runs toward one of the chairs, Killinger spins around in it and says "not you."

In the epilogue that is online only, everyone is attending JJ's funeral on the charred remains of the Venture compound. The Pirate Captain delivers a eulogy and sings a "dirge" (which is really "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" by Crash Test Dummies). Everyone (except Rusty) hums along with the song. At the gate of the compound, Monarch and #21 are trying to pick up Monarch's rental car, but the battery is dead. Brock is standing guard, and allows them to use the electric fence for a jump. Rusty, speaking with JJ's lawyer, learns that JJ has left Rusty his multi-billion dollar company and its headquarters in New York. Rusty faints at this news.

Tropes

  • The Ace: As with all of his other major appearances, Dr. Killinger takes this up to eleven while remaining dead serious.
  • Alliterative Name: Meteor Majeure. (Though it's not within the Earth's atmosphere, so it can't be a "meteor," and is too large for a "meteroid." It keeps the name thanks to the alliterative appeal.)
  • Ambiguously Human / Humanoid Abomination: It's revealed that the Investors and Dr. Killinger are both from the same class of super beings. Exactly what class that is (alien, demonic, etc.) has yet to be revealed.
  • Anyone Can Die: The most deaths of prominent characters in a single Venture Bros. episode to date. A quick count:
    • Jonas Venture Jr.
    • General Treister
    • All three of the Investors
    • Eight of the Council of Thirteen (except Dr. Mrs. the Monarch, Dragoon, Red Mantle, Dr. Z, and Phineas Phage.)
    • The Sovereign
    • (Henchman) Zero
    • Not witnessed on-screen, but The Murderous Moppets (Tim-Tom and Kevin) are implied to be dead by Dr. Mrs. The Monarch as a result of the events of The Devil's Grip (either from the other henchmen as punishment for them killing 24 or by Hatred when he blew up the Cocoon).
    • Possibly Baron Ünderbheit and Fat Chance (see What Happened to the Mouse? below).
  • Back for the Dead: A few instances.
    • Zero. His death will seemingly stick this time. If it wasn't Brock's Neck Snap, it would be Gargantua-2 exploding.
    • General Treister. He was Put on a Bus at the end of Season 4, revived here, and then dies along with JJ.
  • Batman Gambit: Part of Killinger's plans rely on it, more specifically getting Dr. Mrs. The Monarch on board Meteor Majeure (which was based on the Monarch's issues with the Phantom Limb, his desires to become part of the Council of Thirteen after his wife became a member, and his wife coming to his rescue when she realizes his life is in danger).
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: It's revealed the impressive lightsaber duel between Dr. Killinger and the Investors is really just this.
  • Big Bad: The Sovereign takes the role for this episode. The other villains are up to their more standard villainy, but he is the driving force behind almost all of the actions.
  • Blackface: Prof. Impossible is worried that using his power to impersonate Swifty counts as this. (Fat Chance isn't amused.)
  • Call-Back:
    • The Monarch realizing that Phantom Limb was the squatter in his home based on the knife #21 was using is a call back to Hate Floats, where Phantom Limb talked about how serrated knives are for bread, not meat.
    • The ray shield's manual restart requires four arms, because the interns in What Color is Your Clean Suit? mutated to have four arms.
    • After being exposed to space radiation, Gen. Treister actually has become a Hulk.
  • Cast Herd: After playing it straight, if occasionally Downplayed in the rest of the series, this episode notably averts it. Virtually every character of prominence in the series appears in this episode, and nearly all intersect at one point or another. The two biggest names NOT to appear are probably Pete Whitenote  and Molotov Cocktease. Some, like Shoreleave and Dermott, have only brief cameos. Still, it's pretty impressive that they were all squeezed in for a show with dozens of developed characters. The [adult swim].com episode description puts it rather well:
Join the Ventures—and pretty much everyone they've ever crossed paths with—as they rocket to the Gargantua-2 space station for an epic, hour-long adventure that will change the Ventureverse as we know it forever.
  • The Chessmaster: Seemingly everything transpires according to Dr. Killinger's plans.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: The Sovereign. He kills off most of the Council of Thirteen so they won't interfere with his (highly illegal) plan. In order to get out of his deal with the Investors, he tries to kill them by having Phantom Limb blow up Gargantua-2 with them on board. It's clear from Phantom Limb's reaction at the end that the Sovereign didn't plan on keeping his deal with Limb, either.
  • Classical Mythology: The Investors are named Lips, Caicias, and Skeiron after the Greek gods of the southwest, northeast, and northwest winds, respectively. (If they are legitimately brothers to Killinger, it is possible that Killinger's real name could be Euronotus, the southeast wind and only one missing from the foursome.)
  • Continuity Nod: So, so many. A few key ones:
    • Brock and Amber are watching the Shallow Gravy music video to Jacket from the From the Ladle to the Grave: The Shallow Gravy Story special. In this same scene, Brock mentions giving Hank that bass guitar for Christmas. He did so in A Very Venture Christmas.
    • Billy points out that he is a real doctor, referencing when the Investors made Billy a real doctor in ''The Silent Partners" so he could perform heart surgery on Monstroso.
    • Billy tells Hank about how he fixed Hank's testicular torsion in ''Are You There God, It's Me, Dean"
    • Many of the non-robotic staff aboard Gargantua-2 are still members of the "ghost pirate" crew from Ghosts of the Sargassum, previously seen working for JJ in Now Museum, Now You Don't.
    • Meteor Majeure, the new headquarters of the Guild by the end of the episode, was the stronghold of Force Majeure, mentioned in "Pomp And Circuitry" to have been the previous Guild Sovereign.
  • Deal with the Devil: It is revealed that the Sovereign got his position thanks to a deal with the Investors. And now he is trying to kill them before they come to collect on his end of the deal.
  • Death by Irony: The Sovereign is a shapeshifter who desperately wants to be special. He ends up dying without much gravitas, getting accidentally shot out of the sky in his eagle form by Headshot, a man who is pretty much a nobody compared to everyone else.
  • Death Montage: Used when showing each member of the Council of Thirteen being killed off.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: The Sovereign is killed by an accidental shot from Head Shot while in his eagle form.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Copycat (a villain based on Dean Martin with the powers of Multiple Man) appears in a promotion still for the "world class entertainment" to be offered by Gargantua-2. He becomes a recurring character in seasons six and seven.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: The remaining members of the Council project their objection to the Sovereign's plan to attack Gargantua 2. The Investors also show some sides of this as they comply with JJ's request to be alone with Rusty before they can discuss whatever the 'terms' of their agreement was, as the former just learned of his illness.
  • Everyone Has Standards: As cold and aloof as Rusty is, even he is affected by the news of JJ's terminal illness.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Realizing that Gargantua-2 has been compromised, Jonas Jr. teams up with Treister to evacuate the civilians and throw the reactor into space to save everyone. In his last moments, JJ's eyes are trembling like he's about to cry, but he calmly asks Rusty to remember him after he dies.
    Rusty: So... this is... it?
Jonas Jr.: This is it. Speak well of me, big bro. And, well... go, Team Venture.
  • Flaming Emblem: Deconstructed, as the one made by the Monarch results in the entire Venture compound being burnt down. This being the Monarch, however, he'd be very delighted upon finding out.
  • Gambit Pile Up: The plans of the Sovereign, Phantom Limb, the Investors, the O.S.I., and Dr. Killinger all clash. (Killinger wins, and it's possible that even the pile-up was part of his plan...)
  • Grass is Greener: Jonas Venture Jr. is an incredibly wealthy and intelligent man, but he envies the friends and family Rusty has and wishes he had spent more time with people like that instead of getting caught in the rat race now that he's dying of a terminal illness.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: JJ (already dying) and General Treister go down with Gargantua-2 in order to pilot it away from the escapes pods so they won't be caught in the explosion.
  • Killed Off for Real: Everyone listed under Anyone Can Die.
  • La Résistance: Watch and Ward form one from the remnants of the Guild who haven't been killed off by the Sovereign.
  • Made of Iron: Subverted. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch gets shot in the abdomen after escaping the Guild but manages to keep going despite ongoing blood loss. She finally passes out after saving The Monarch, and even then, she's only saved because of Killinger.
  • Neck Snap: How Brock kills Zero.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: As the Investors confront Brock, they continually appear around him like this.
  • Post-Treatment Lollipop: Dr. Mrs. The Monarch gets one from Killinger after he uses magic to heal her gunshot wound, which she accepts.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: The reason the Sovereign kills off the Council of Thirteen. His plan to blow up Gargantua-2 was against every treaty they had with the O.S.I., and they would have tried to stop him rather than risk the wrath of the O.S.I.
  • Reestablishing Character Moment: After failing to kill even a defenseless Dr. Venture in season four's "Bright Lights, Dean City", the Revenge Society is shown in The Stinger of season five's "Bot Seeks Bot" working with noted Ace and Evil Mentor Dr. Killinger. In the opening Training Montage, he is shown helping them to greatly improve their powers, like helping Prof. Impossible to use his Rubber Man powers as Voluntary Shapeshifting to impersonate others and Fat Chance to control what he pulls out of his belly button "Enigma Hole", ahead of their planned assault on the episode's eponymous space station.
  • Shoot the Shaggy Dog Story: The Sovereign's entire plan in the end. He attempts to murder the Council of Thirteen (succeeding for the most part) so he won't have anyone stop his plans to kill the Investors by way of destroying Gargantua-2, violating the treaties with the O.S.I. The Guild would probably be facing major sanctions (if not open war) if they couldn't pin all the blame on him, and the attack was completely pointless since the Investors are revealed to be powerful psychics with mental projection capabilities, so they were likely never on Gargantua-2 to begin with. Furthermore, he ends up dying by accident while Killinger wipes out the Investors on mostly unrelated business.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The episode title one to the movie All This, and Heaven Too.
    • Alternatively, the title could also be a reference to the film "All This and World War II"
    • During the battle in the casino, Baron Ünderbheit wields a Bat'Leth.
    • General Treister's transformation due to cosmic radiation is one to The Incredible Hulk. The fact that he's a general who turns red would suggest he's specifically one to General Ross.
    • The Sovereign (in the form of #21) compares Dr. Mrs. The Monarch, Mommy Longlegs, and Phage to the main characters from Totally Spies!.
    • Phantom Limb refers to the Revenge Society at one point as "Fat Albert and his junkyard gang."
    • Wild Fop says that the Sovereign "can be such a queen bitch," referring to the David Bowie song of the same name.
    • Amber Gold compares herself to She-Ra: Princess of Power.
    • #21's comment about the Monarch's mansion looking like it would have "creepy wet Asian kids crawling on the ceiling" is one to The Ring.
    • As Brock explains that "only spies play baccarat," three cliche spies sit at the table, and all three ordered dry martinis, shaken not stirred.
    • When Colonel Gathers realizes members of the Council of 13 are dropping left and right:
Col. Gathers: Put 'em up on the big board!
(Pictures of the Council members appear on overhead screens on the OSI heli-carrier's bridge)
      Col. Gathers: Survey says!
Col. Gathers: Gentlemen, we've been made.
    • In the same scene:
Col. Gathers: (referring to the Sovereign) This talking head is burning down the house!
    • Watch and Ward mention playing Red Dead Redemption when remotely controlling the Diamond Dogs.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: This is Killinger's third major appearance so far in the series, and he causes a major shakeup of the entire Venture universe.
  • The Topic of Cancer: We learn in this episode that Jonas Jr. has been slowly dying of cancer for an unspecified amount of time. However, Jonas chooses to go out saving the civilians from Gargantua-2's destruction instead of succumbing to his illness.
  • Took A Level In Bad Ass: The Revenge Society, thanks to Killinger's training.
  • Training Montage: A brief one in the beginning showing each member of the Revenge Society harnessing and improving on their abilities under Killinger's tutelage.
  • Trash the Set: By the end of the episode, the Venture Compound is burned completely to the ground.
  • Trickster Mentor: Played With by Killinger again, this time with the Revenge Society.
  • Unexpected Inheritance: If he got anything at all, Rusty expected only to be left Spider Skull Island and the X-2 (which is what he gave JJ to begin with). Typically, those end up going to the widow, Miss Impossible (although it was never confirmed that JJ and Sally had married). Rusty passes out when he is told that JJ left him a multi-billion-dollar company and its headquarters in New York City.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: In addition to the Sovereign, Prof. Impossible has learned to use his stretching powers to create realistic disguises.
  • Wham Episode: Probably the biggest "wham" since The Family That Slays Together Stays Together Part II (where Brock quit and #24 died.) The [adult swim].com episode description wasn't kidding when it said this episode "will change the Ventureverse as we know it forever".
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: We never see the fates of Baron Ünderbheit or Fat Chance. They are last seen on the Space Station while the others are evacuating. They are not on the escape vessels, and Phantom Limb and Radical Left use one of Fat Chance's Enigma Holes to escape. It's possible that they got blown up along with the station. (A deleted scene would've shown Ünderbheit escaping via an Enigma Hole as well, leaving Fat Chance stranded on the station.)
