Bubble Bass Reviews

Original air date: 7/24/2023

Bubble Bass offers a bunch of scathing, pedantic, and pathetic criticism towards Patrick's show. When Patrick and Squidina find out about his review, they're not going to let it slide...

Bubble Bass Reviews contains examples of:

  • Affectionate Parody: The episode is styled after the videos of many YouTube Critics and Reviewers. Bubble Bass's uniform resembles that of the The Nostalgia Critic, and his Author Avatar is drawn in a simpler, Animesque style akin to that of PieGuyRulz.
  • Basement-Dweller: Bubble Bass lives in his mom's basement and spends so much time there that he hasn't seen natural light in twelve weeks. When he does go outside, a few beams of sunlight make him immediately burst into flames.
  • Brick Joke:
    • Early on, Mama Bass states how long Bubble Bass has gone without sunlight because he spends all his time in the basement. When Bubble Bass runs out of his house screaming, some clouds part and the sun comes out. A single beam of sunlight sets Bubble Bass on fire.
    • One of the clips that Bubble Bass accidentally edited into his review is of him cosplaying as the Cat Girl from his embarrassing desktop wallpaper from earlier in the episode.
  • Caustic Critic: Bubble Bass spends the entirety of his show screaming over how bad the Patrick Show is, that Patrick and Squidina should be thrown in jail for making it, and that it's the worst show on television.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The episode focuses on Bubble Bass and takes place almost entirely in his basement.
  • Embarrassing Slide: When Bubble Bass is trying to pull up a window with a clip of the Patrick Show, he accidentally reveals his desktop wallpaper, which has an Animesque drawing of a Cat Girl on it. He hurriedly covers it up.
Bubble Bass: Huh?! Wait, uh, you're not supposed to see this!
  • Fat Slob: Heavily exemplified with a montage of Bubble Bass covered in food stains as he reviews stuff on his show. According to Patrick, this has happened over 500 times.
  • Gretzky Has the Ball: Bubble Bass says "touchdown!" before throwing a basketball during one of the random clips that play in between his show's segments.
  • Gross-Up Close-Up: A very detailed shot of Bubble Bass's gross face is shown as he says that he hopes someone got fired for putting fire underwater.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Bubble Bass declares that Patrick's audience is pathetic. At least Patrick has an audience; Bubble Bass addresses some action figures as his viewers and even puts on a voice for one to compliment him.
  • Instant Web Hit: Patrick and Squidina's Review Review video gets two billion views, just around an hour after being uploaded.
  • Less Embarrassing Term: When Mama Bass calls her son's outfit (which resembles The Nostalgia Critic) a "costume", he insists that it's a uniform and he's making art.
  • Man on Fire: Bubble Bass ends up engulfed in flames after getting exposed to sunlight, ignoring his mother's warning that he put on some sunscreen before he gets a sunburn.
  • Minimalist Cast: There are only four characters who speak in this episode: Bubble Bass, his mother, Patrick, and Squidina.
  • My Little Phony: Bubble Bass is revealed to own a limited edition 'My Tiny Seahorse'.
  • Self-Fanserviceinvoked: Bubble Bass's avatar on his shows him as skinny, as opposed to the Fat Bastard he is in real life.
  • Smart Ball: Notably, Patrick doesn't do anything stupid in this episode and is actually scarily competent. He is able to track down Bubble Bass to his house and break in, and he and Squidina pull out an epic diss of Bubble Bass that completely destroys his credibility.
  • Stylistic Suck: Bubble Bass's show has oversaturated colors, shaky camerawork, and incredibly low production values. His criticism is also completely worthless, since he spends most of it complaining about things that most people will either never notice or not care about.
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: Patrick and Squidina respond to Bubble Bass's harsh review by making a series reviewing his show. In the process, they make a bunch of jokes showing off how slobby and pathetic he is. Bubble Bass runs away screaming from it.
  • Toilet Humor: Mama Bass says that there's "skid marks" on all of Bubble Bass's underwear. Skid marks is a slang term for poop stains.
  • Video Review Show: Bubble Bass spends the episode running a review show where he attacks Patrick's show.
  • Water Is Air: Bubble Bass brings up a clip of Patrick and Squidina resting by a campfire and complains about how unrealistic the scene is, since it shouldn't be possible to light a fire underwater.

Patrick's Prison Pals

Original air date: 7/25/2023

When Patrick goes to Bunny's prison for Bring Your Kid to Work Day, a prisoner switches places with him. However, the prisoner soon learns that hanging out with Patrick's family might be worse than jail.

Patrick's Prison Pals contains examples of:

  • Alliterative Name: The prisoner who switches places with Patrick is named Sockeye Sammy.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment:
    • When Patrick catches two prisoners attempting to tunnel out:
Patrick: [angry] Guys, how could you? [excited] ...Not tell me the prison is made of food!?
    • From one of the prisoners after Patrick eats his bread:
Prisoner: (grabs Patrick's collar, angry) This guy... (lets go and spreads arms out) Is my new best friend!
  • Call-Back: Bunny being a prison greeter was mentioned as an off-hand comment in "Bunny the Barbarian". Here, it sets up the plot of the episode.
  • Cutlery Escape Aid: Patrick catches two prisoners trying to tunnel out of a cell with spoons. Patrick takes this to mean the prison is made of food and quickly devours an escape tunnel for them.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Patrick impresses the prisoners by eating 100 cafeteria trays in one sitting.
  • Hope Spot: Returning to prison, Sockeye is glad to finally be free of the Star family. Just then, Patrick announces that he had such a wonderful time in prison that he and his family will be moving in, and they pop out of the TV and right into Sockeye's cell, bags already packed.
  • Mood Whiplash: When Bunny is teaching Patrick about her job.
Bunny: [dead serious] Now, Patrick, always remember the most important rule of prison: [happily] have fun!
  • Literal Metaphor: Bunny literally turns a prisoner's frown upside down by spinning his head 180 degrees. This does actually cheer him up.
  • Literal Money Metaphor: One of the prisoners made lots of "bread" from betting on Patrick. Not money, but actual loaves of bread.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: Patrick sees the prisoners escaping with spoons, leading to this:
Patrick: (gasp) Guys, how could you? ...Not tell me the prison is made of food!? Oh, can I have a spoonful, pretty please, pretty please?
    Prisoner #1: Sure thing, pal.
Prisoner #2: (gives Patrick a spoon) Yeah, go nuts.
Patrick: There's nuts in this too!? (starts eating)
  • Only Sane Woman: Squidina is the only one who can see through Sockeye's Paper-Thin Disguise.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: The Stars, sans Squidina, are completely fooled by Sockeye's disguise until he says he's not hungry. Sockeye immediately placates their suspicion by eating Patrick's dinner.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Nobody can tell a muscular criminal from Patrick. Subverted in Squidina's case; while she calls him Patrick at first, she says it's obvious that the criminal isn't Patrick. She just needs someone to do Patrick's show, and he's the closest thing to Patrick they have right now.
  • Police Are Useless: The police can't tell that Sockeye is an escaped prisoner. Not only that, but they give him a free choice of a weapon from a confiscated item bin. Sockeye chooses an axe.
  • Popping Buttons: Sockeye is much more muscular than Patrick, and when he tries to fasten on Patrick's shirt as a disguise, the button pops right off.
  • Prefer Jail to the Protagonist: Sockeye switches places with Patrick and thinks he'll have it easy. However, the bizarre structure of Patrick's house, his family's Bizarre Taste in Food, and Slappy send Sockeye tunneling right back to prison.
  • Prison Episode: The episode's subplot revolves around Patrick in jail, slowly winning over all the inmates with his antics.
  • Skewed Priorities: Once Patrick learns that he's stuck in prison, the first thing he does is freak out over missing dinner.
  • Special Guest: Danny Trejo as Sockeye Sammy. There's also a small Role Reprise by Joe Pantoliano, who voiced prisoner Stickyfins in the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "The Getaway".
  • Stalker Shrine: Slappy has a shrine dedicated to Patrick, and asks Sockeye (disguised as Patrick) for one of his teeth to add to it.
