Which Witch is Which?

Original air date: 7/5/2023

Patrick and Squidina's grandmother, a Klopnodian witch names Agnes Steelhead, makes an unexpected visit. Squidina is excited to learn to use magic from her grandmother, but soon gets the idea that Agnes might not be as nice as she seems.

Which Witch is Which? contains examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: The episode focuses on Squidina.
  • Alliterative Title: Which Witch is Which?
  • Brief Accent Imitation: Cecil briefly imitates Agnes' Klopnodian accent while pretending to be her in a mocking tone.
  • Can't Live with Them, Can't Live Without Them: Twisted by Agnes after her family proves unable to stand her rudeness.
Agnes: Ah, family. Can't live with them, can't burn them at the stake...
  • Continuity Nod: In a flashback, we see that Bunny grew up in Klopnod, and her design as a kid is the same one from "The Patterfly Effect".
  • Comically Small Bribe: As a last-ditch effort to prevent Squidina from sending her back to Klopnod, Agnes promises to send her a check for five dollars on her birthday.
  • Disappearing Box: Patrick traps Agnes in a box and GrandPat tries to make her disappear. However, Agnes makes the box grow legs and walk away, showing that she was actually behind it.
  • Evil Matriarch: Agnes not only burns down Granny Tentacles' house because she thinks it's "ugly", but convinces Squidina that she was the one who did it. She also makes Bunny's house dirty right after she cleans it, can barely remember Cecil's or Patrick's names and sends the latter a Voodoo Doll of him with nails impaled in it. Squidina ends up defeating Agnes out of anger at how badly she treats her family.
  • Flying Broomstick: Agnes wants to make Squidina ride a broom, but she's intimidated by it. When GrandPat falls off the house, Agnes catches him on her broom... then makes it go out of control in response to a rude comment he makes towards her.
  • Foreshadowing: Even before the ending, it's hinted that Squidina doesn't actually have magic witch powers. In fact, it might not be possible for her to get them at all.
    • Bunny specifies that she never actually got her powers, but she sees her housekeeping skills as her own kind of magic. In this way, Squidina's "magic" might actually just be her producing skills, and not witch magic like Agnes has.
    • A Meaningful Background Event shows that Squidina didn't actually light Granny Tentacles' house on fire, and that instead, Agnes did it and claimed Squidina did. Squidina's attempts at using her magic wand herself also do nothing.
    • It's also noticeable that Squidina's magic wand looks nothing like the one Agnes is using, being more akin to a children's toy rather than a wooden stick.
    • The magic potion that Squidina mixes has no effect when Patrick drinks it. Agnes's potion does.
  • Fun with Homophones: The episode's title, since "which" and "witch" sound the same.
  • Gainax Ending: Squidina doesn't actually have magical powers like we're lead to believe; she was just using video editing software. But she is a werewolf.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: A man who's waiting for the bus is lit on fire by Agnes's magic, but merely comments how hot it is and doesn't seem to be in any pain.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Agnes repeatedly misnames Cecil, and when he keeps correcting her, she tells him that he "talks too much" and shuts him up. She does this just because she doesn't like him.
  • Meaningful Background Event: Before Squidina sees Granny Tentacles' house on fire, you can see Agnes's wand smoking and her hiding it behind her back. Squidina doesn't actually have powers at all; Agnes is gaslighting her into thinking she needs to control them better.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: Agnes disapproves of Cecil because he's not magical. She repeatedly gets his name wrong and Cecil is shown to dislike her back.
  • Power Floats: When Squidina uses her witch powers, she glows blue and levitates off the ground.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Squidina gets one when she finally uses her magical powers and calls out her grandmother, who has been less than nice to the rest of the family.
Squidina: Grandma, it was nice to meet you, but it's time for you to go! (uses her Psychic Powers to throw her out a window)
  • Pull a Rabbit out of My Hat: During his showdown against Agnes, GrandPat pulls a strong Killer Rabbit out of his hat. Agnes turns it against him by transmuting GrandPat into a carrot, which the rabbit eats.
  • Rhyming Title: "Which" and "witch" are soundalikes.
  • Right Behind Me: After the Stars find out that Agnes is visiting, Cecil proceeds to imitate Agnes in a mocking tone. The bat who delivered the scroll announcing Agnes' visit is Agnes, but Cecil doesn't realize she's already in the house until he hears her clear her throat.
  • Special Guest: Andrea Martin voices Agnes.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Even after Agnes reluctantly saves him from a fall, GrandPat still makes his intentions to take down Agnes clear, prompting her to make her broom fly out of control while GrandPat is still on it.
GrandPat: You'll regret saving me when I'm through with you, witch!
    Agnes: No, you will!
  • Voodoo Doll: Agnes sends Patrick a present: a voodoo doll shaped like him, with six nails sticking out of it.
  • Witch Classic: Agnes is an old woman who flies brooms, mixes potions, and has a magic wand.

Get Off My Lawnie

Original air date: 7/6/2023

When Patrick's show interrupts Granny Tentacles' sleep, she insults it live on stage. Her performance gives her a dedicated and obsessive fan following, which she can't seem to get rid of.

Get Off My Lawnie contains examples of:

  • Appropriated Appellation: Granny Tentacles insults the Patrick Show's audience ("You people are sick!" and "Don't you people have lives?"). The fanbase think it's her Catchphrase Insult and love it, proudly wearing shirts that say "Sick Person" and "I Have No Life" with Granny Tentacles' face on them.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Right as Granny Tentacles finally embraces her fame, her audience immediately abandons her for a new show. However, this means she isn't being harassed by her fanbase anymore, and she'll get to continue hating on the new show (in private).
  • Cannot Tell Fiction from Reality: Granny Tentacles' fans follow her around with a cardboard TV set and keep referring to her as a "character".
  • Continuity Cavalcade: The Granny Tentacles Show's theme song contains a brief shot with various recurring characters: Plankton, Pearl, Larry, the Flying Dutchman, and Sandy.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The episode mainly focuses on Granny Tentacles.
  • Fan Community Nicknames:invoked When Granny Tentacles becomes popular, her fans call themselves "fantacles".
  • Faux Symbolism:invoked Parodied. Granny Tentacles' unwanted fanbase invade her house and comment on everything she does. When she washes her face, one fan shouts, "Washing her face is a metaphor for starting over!"
  • Fun with Subtitles: Slappy accidentally turns on the show's subtitles, which appear in time with Granny Tentacles' dialogue to help her cross a chasm.
  • Jump Scare: Granny Tentacles gets scared by a gruesomely detailed painting of Squidward with a Nightmare Face, which abruptly takes up the entire screen.
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: Granny Tentacles' fans leave to go watch an old man paint his fence. They're very invested in it.
  • Insult Backfire: Granny Tentacles insults the Patrick Show's audience. They think she's just a character on the show and love it, down to making T-shirts with her insults on them (an old man proudly exclaims, "I have no life!" after Granny Tentacles says it).
  • Is This Thing On?: Shecky taps his microphone and asks if it's on before being pushed aside by Granny Tentacles during her theme song.
  • Medium-Shift Gag: An eye wash product briefly gives Granny Tentacles human eyes as a side effect.
  • No Fourth Wall: Granny Tentacles is in a runaway vehicle and about to cross a canyon. She gets over it by riding across the show's subtitles, which Slappy had accidentally turned on.
  • Only One Finds It Fun: Patrick's late-night show consists of a bunch of seals barking a song. The audience finds it annoying and covers their ears, but Slappy actually likes it.
  • Out of Focus: Patrick and Squidina only have a few lines in this episode.
  • Partially-Concealed-Label Gag: Granny Tentacles paints over a sign that says "Do Not Feed the Clams" to cover the "Not". Her audience loves it.
  • Who Is Driving?: A bus driver asks Granny Tentacles for her autograph. She asks who's driving the bus, and immediately sees nobody at the wheel. The bus flips over a car and she takes control of it herself.
