Gumball tries to protect Darwin from his unsuitable undead girlfriend Carrie.

Tropes:

  • Amicable Exes: Carrie, when she was alive, used to date a person named Azrael (though it's left unsaid whether or not he was alive or undead), and ends up running into him. They're still on such good terms, and both ghosts, Gumball thinks Carrie's going to cheat on Darwin with him.
  • Art Shift: During the scene when Gumball drags Darwin to stop what he thinks is Carrie cheating with Azrael, not too unlike the one from "The Ollie", with a darkish red/blue Color Wash during the jump scene for good measure.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Gumball and Darwin encounter Dolphin Man on a motorcycle during the mad dash scene. A moment later, the two are mounted on Dolphin Man instead of the bike.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • An arcade game has "Laserheart and The Smooch" branding from "The Comic".
    • Carrie possesses Darwin the same way she possesses Gumball in "The Ghost" and "The Mirror". She also eats Pantsbully's food and takes a bite out of Donut Cop while possessing Darwin, which may be a nod to "The Ghost" where that also happened.
    • Carrie turns out to be hundreds of years old, something Gumball mentioned in "The Ghouls" (which was presumably written to be aired after this one).
    • When Gumball apologizes for everything, Darwin says he holds Leslie and Masami accountable for sowing the seeds of doubt within Gumball, and reminds him of when he came in between him and Penny, which happened in "The Bros".
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Carrie.
  • Easily Forgiven: After the whole mess, Gumball apologized to Darwin and Carrie, to which Darwin commented that it wasn't his fault, feeling that Leslie and Masami were responsible due to putting the thoughts in Gumball's head in the first place.
  • Fourth Wall Psych: When Gumball reveals he was spying on Darwin, he mentions that everyone spies on everyone these days. This leads to him noticing the TV screen the audience is watching from, even poking up against it with active resistance. Once the camera turns to Darwin's perspective, Gumball is poking through thin air and moves on.
  • Human Furniture Is a Pain in the Tail: Variant, used for a quick joke. The school has human toilets, it was only a matter of time before one of the students with tails would have a dangling problem.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Leslie and Masami sowed doubt in Gumball about his brother's relationship with Carrie just because they liked having drama to talk about. After this causes a big mess, Gumball ends up literally kicking the doubt right back at the two.
  • Mistaken Age: Darwin and Gumball are pretty surprised to find out that Carrie is over three centuries old.
  • Opposites Attract: Gumball gets worried about how different Carrie and Darwin are, but they love each other anyway.
  • Shooting Superman: Gumball tries to ram Azrael, who is a ghost. He passes through and crashes into a tree.
  • Shout-Out: Gumball with Darwin in tow leaps from Dolphin Man, who collides with a truck, in order to clear a freeway, resembling the many ways you can abandon a Yoshi in Super Mario World.
Darwin: Sweet Christmas! You totally Yoshi'd that poor guy!
  • Solid Clouds: Gumball somehow lands on and runs on the clouds at one point during the chase scene, which he uses as a shortcut to Carrie and Azrael.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Gumball comes up with a few of these for cheating.
Gumball: FASTER! I SAID FASTER! WE GOTTA STOP AZRAEL!
Darwin: From doing what? He said he just wanted to chew the fat?
Gumball: CHEW THE FAT, SPARE THE CAKE, GO TAKE THE TERRARIUM, THOSE ARE ALL CODE NAMES!
    Darwin: For what?
Gumball: For cheating! Enough talking! We gotta get to them before he starts flunking the armadillo!
  • The Voice: Carrie's mother is heard from a grave, but not seen.
  • We Are Not Going Through That Again: Once Gumball resolves his doubts about Carrie and Darwin's relationship, he starts to doubt his own relationship with Penny. However, he kicks the Anthropomorphic Personification of doubt at Masami and Leslie, who cast it into him in the first place.
