"Magina, may you rise."

Animated by Kinema Citrus.

On a planet inhabited by a deeply spiritual people, a young woman betrothed to her beloved is forced to be taken prisoner by battle droid-using raiders in the hopes of saving her village. A lone Jedi visiting the planet must make a choice: surrender to her past scars and the tides of fate, or fight and forge a new destiny...

Tropes:

  • Achilles in His Tent: F is initially reluctant to combat the raiders to save the village, as she is still shaken by Order 66, fears being tracked down, and doubts her abilities as a masterless Padawan, but she ends up coming through.
  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: The lyrics to the music with Emi Evans as vocalist are indiscernible. As any Yoko Taro fan can tell you, she uses her own made-up "Chaos Language", her idea of what language may sound like in the future (as Taro's works take place in the distant future or distant past). In this case, the Chaos language may be a stand-in for the native language on Keelia.
  • Background Magic Field: The denizens of Keelia believe in something called the Magina, a (demonstrably real) force of nature that they live in harmony with. It's all but stated that the Magina is their name for the Force.
  • Bait-and-Switch Gunshot: Izuma has a blaster to Saku's head. He fires, then the screen cuts to black... only for it to quickly reveal that F stopped the blast with the Force and is ready to combat Izuma.
  • Bald of Evil: Izuma, the leader of the raiders, is completely bald and perfectly willing to kill Saku in front of Haru for trying to ambush him.
  • Batman Gambit: The short seems to be one by Valco to show F that she is worthy of being a Jedi. He introduces F to the village knowing she'll see what's happening and naturally get involved in their plight... just as a Jedi would. F even realizes this, but goes along with it, anyway.
  • Big Damn Heroes: F saves Saku and Haru from Izuma twice.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Haru and Saku's argument is this. On one hand, Haru is right that the Meevai are in no condition to fight off Izuma and his raiders and she has already agreed to Izuma's terms for the village's safety. On the other hand, Saku is right that Izuma needs to be stopped for everyone's sake. F, for her part, seems to ultimately side with Saku, but still thinks Haru is brave.
  • But Now I Must Go: After saving the village from the raiders, F leaves Keelia in her starfighter and disappears into hyperspace.
  • Clean Cut: Justified with F’s lightsaber slicing through Izuma’s hand and body.
  • Combat Stilettos: F wears high heels in her fight against the bandits.
  • Cool Sword: F's lightsaber stands out with its golden katana-shaped plasma blade.
  • Dark and Troubled Past:
    • F is a survivor of the Great Jedi Purge whose master died while training her.
    • The planet itself has one. During the Clone Wars, The Separatists strip-mined the planet of everything. After the war, a warlord reactivated several battledroids to subjugate the planet.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: F has dark hair, a black cloak, and a black mask but she's a Jedi. Valco says her outfit doesn't suit her.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Haru and Saku's parents have passed, and so have Asu's, but it is believed they are one with Magina now.
  • Happily Married: Haru and Asu had been childhood friends, and Asu insists on joining Haru when she gives herself up to the raiders.
  • Heroic Neutral: F starts out as this, so Valco has to take her into the village and show her their situation to persuade her to get involved.
  • Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy: Downplayed. The bandit goons and battledroids are unable to hit Valco even when he's standing still in clear sight, but he's also far enough away to be using a Sniper Rifle.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: The man who serves drinks F and Valco and explains to them that Haru is going to be taken away by raiders starts chugging his bottle after, lamenting that there's not enough booze in it to make him feel better about the coming tragedy.
  • Important Haircut: Before going off to stop the raiders, F cuts off her Padawan braid, thus knighting herself.
  • Mysterious Past: All we can gather about F is that Order 66 left her shellshocked.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Saku's attempts to fight back against the raiders leads her and her group to be captured and nearly executed.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Haru is the Blue Oni to Saku's Red Oni. Haru accepts that she must let herself be imprisoned by the raiders for the sake of her grandfather and village, while Saku believes the village should fight back against the raiders instead of giving up Haru or their grandfather despite being hopelessly outgunned.
  • Single-Stroke Battle: F ignites her lightsaber, Flash Steps forward, and seconds later, Izuma falls to the ground.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Unfortunately for Saku, Rock Beats Laser isn't something that always happens in the Star Wars mythology, and being horribly under-equipped will spell doom for a resistance movement. The only reason she's not shot dead by Izuma is that F, a Jedi with the ability of Force Stasis, can freeze the blaster bolt in mid-air and send it back at him.
  • Sweet and Sour Grapes: Haru and Asu had already been through so much, from witnessing their planet being strip-mined, right down to their village being subjugated by marauders who had the upper-hand. At best, they were prepared to be prisoners of war (together) as long as it spared Haru's grandfather and village. And at worst, they nearly witnessed Saku's execution by Izuma's hand. But the tides turned when F intervened and destroyed the marauders' ultimate weapon. Not only are Haru and Asu free to lead their lives together, but their people are liberated from the marauders' hold and can start rebuilding their lives.
  • Too Dumb to Live: The Battle Droids, period. When a man throws an explosive helmet at you, your first instinct shouldn't be to gawk at it and dumbly ask, "What's that?" Only the Battle Droids would do that.
  • Trickster Mentor: Valco to F. F has no plans on getting involved in the village's disputes and Valco never explicitly says she should. All he does is take her into the village where she learns what they're going through.
