Mr. Krabs has an accident and leaves SpongeBob in charge of the Krusty Krab.

"Boss for a Day" contains examples of:

  • Be Yourself: What SpongeBob learns after spending the whole episode trying to run the Krusty Krab like Mr. Krabs would.
  • Bandage Mummy: After his accident, Mr. Krabs returns to the Krusty Krab in a full body cast while sitting in a wheelchair.
  • It's the Best Whatever, Ever!: At the end of the episode when Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob he's going to dock his pay for decades to cover for the damages he caused, SpongeBob calls him "the best boss ever".
  • Me's a Crowd: SpongeBob slices part of his body to make clones of himself to help him run the Krusty Krab.
  • Naked People Are Funny: While cooking, Patrick wears pants identical to SpongeBob. When he quits, Patrick tears off his clothes, leaving him naked for the rest of the episode.
  • Piano Drop: A large piano drops on Mr. Krabs thanks to a mover who lets go of the rope to pick up Mr. Krabs's penny.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Patrick and Squidward quit after they get tired of SpongeBob's bossy behavior.
  • Shout-Out:
    • One of the things that Mr. Krabs' eyes turn into are Pac-Man and a ghost.
    • SpongeBob's helmet that makes Squidward smile is a reference to The Ren & Stimpy Show episode "Stimpy's Invention."
  • Stopped Dead in Their Tracks: When all the problems start piling up and the customers are demanding stuff from him, he gets so stressed out that he shouts "Everybody STOP!" Everything and everyone freezes, then he runs into the kitchen to find a solution.
  • The Un-Smile: Squidward sports one while wearing a helmet that forces him to smile. It manages to creep out a customer.
  • Wingding Eyes: Mr. Krabs' pupils turn into various symbols before he explodes with anger.
  • Worst. Whatever. Ever!: Mr. Krabs calls SpongeBob "the worst boss ever" for his horrible boss skills.

The Goofy Newbie

Original air date: 9/28/2019

Patrick takes a job at Goofy Goober's when he finds out the employees get free ice cream.

"The Goofy Newbie" contains examples of:

  • Brain Freeze: Exaggerated when Patrick eats so much ice cream that he freezes the entire planet for five billion years.
  • Brick Joke: The Goofy Goober's training video ends with Reginald Goober (the founder) leaving in a banana split UFO. The episode ends with Patrick leaving in the same UFO.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: SpongeBob whistles the last few notes of the theme song on his nose like he does in the opening.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Patrick interacts with Squidina (his adoptive sister in The Patrick Star Show, and her name is even dropped in the end credits) at the beginning of the episode, but the two of them act like complete strangers to each other. This could likely be because the Patrick Star Show wouldn't debut until two years later.
  • Either/Or Title: The episode was advertised as "Goofy Scooper". Interestingly, an episode with a very similar title would premiere two and a half years later.
  • New Job Episode: The episode centers on Patrick getting a job at Goofy Goober's.
  • The Reveal: The origin of Goofy Goober's is revealed in this episode. Apparently, they believe in aliens if the training video is any indication.
  • Shout-Out: Patrick sitting on a raft while fishing in melted ice cream is a reference to Tom Sawyer.
  • Time Skip: Patrick's brain freeze causes the entire planet to freeze in a block of ice that doesn't thaw out until "Five billion years later".
  • Title Drop: Patrick is called "Goofy Newbie", which is what they call new employees at Goofy Goober's.
  • Vacuum Mouth: Patrick eats everyone's ice cream this way.
