Goofy Scoopers

Original air date: 2/25/2022 (produced in 2020)

SpongeBob and Patrick are the only people to love the robotic ragtime band that plays at Goofy Goober's. When the band is trashed in favor of a modern new DJ, SpongeBob and Patrick set out to put the band back together for a reunion show and remind everyone how good they were.

The episode contains examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: After SpongeBob and Patrick's Ticket-Line Campout, Patrick tells the manager, "We came here to see the Gooey Sneakers!"
  • Back for the Finale: On a smaller scale. The Dance Party Ending has almost everyone from the episode, including the clown from the circus and the Goofy Goober manager, dancing along to the Scoopers' reunion.
  • Bait-and-Switch A garbage man comes to pick up a trash bag and cardboard box that look like SpongeBob and Patrick in disguise, only for it to turn out that SpongeBob and Patrick are hijacking the garbage truck.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: SpongeBob and Patrick are the only people to actually like the Goofy Scoopers, and DJ 2 Scoopz manages to get the kids (and Patrick) actually excited, putting some much-needed energy into his performance. In this case, it's justified that the manager would get rid of the Goofy Scoopers. However, SpongeBob and Patrick manage to reunite the band and have them play alongside DJ 2 Scoopz, creating a solution that satisfies everyone. It suggests that the manager didn't need to start from square one, and instead just add something new.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: SpongeBob paces around the edges of the screen while coming up with his plan.
  • The Cameo: Filthy Muck appears at the dump.
  • Dance Party Ending: The episode ends with the Goofy Scoopers, now joined by DJ 2 Scoopz, putting on a light show and playing an EDM remix of the Goofy Scoopers' ragtime song. SpongeBob, Patrick, and everyone else from the episode all dance along.
  • Disguised in Drag: Patrick does this when he and SpongeBob disguise themselves as husband and wife to visit Bongos Bear's massage parlor.
  • Everybody Do the Endless Loop: Everyone's dancing at the end of the episode is clearly looped.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: SpongeBob complains to the manager that he and Patrick won't accept the Goofy Scoopers' replacement... only to see Patrick dancing along.
  • The Millstone: Patrick does nothing helpful in this episode. He tries to beat up one of the Goofy Scoopers, dances to DJ 2 Scoopzs' music when SpongeBob says he wouldn't and mangles the band's name, and writes a terrible song that the audience hates. Other times, he's doing random stuff in the background like eating garbage and completely zoning out.
  • Monster Clown: One at the circus torments Clem Clam.
  • Ode to Food: Both "Goober Rag" and "Brain Freeze" are songs about eating ice cream.
  • Only One Finds It Fun: SpongeBob and Patrick are the only people to enjoy the Goofy Scoopers' performance. All the other kids in the restaurant are bored, and this leads to the Scoopers being scrapped in favor of a new DJ.
  • Overly Narrow Superlative: Not approving of DJ 2 Scoopz, SpongeBob says that the Goofy Scoopers are the only "ice-cream themed musical robot act" he'll ever love.
  • Produce Pelting: SpongeBob, Patrick, and the band get pelted with tomatoes twice during their performance.
  • Putting the Band Back Together: The animatronic Goofy Scoopers band are trashed, so SpongeBob and Patrick track them down at their new jobs and convince them to get back together.
  • Refusal of the Call: Rock T. Puss initially refuses to rejoin the band, choosing to stay and hold up a bridge. He comes back later during the band's performance.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The hard rock performance that SpongeBob and Patrick put on is based on KISS.
    • The Goofy Goober's manager saying, "Closing time. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here." is a reference to Semisonic's song "Closing Time".
  • Special Guest: Ed Begley Jr. as Rock T. Puss and Christopher Guest as Clem Clam.note
  • The End: While dancing, Patrick turns around, revealing "The End" written on the back of his head.
  • Ticket-Line Campout: After SpongeBob and Patrick are kicked out of Goofy Goober's, they set up sleeping bags and tents outside the restaurant overnight so they can come in first thing in the morning.

Pat the Dog

Original air date: 7/9/2021 (produced in 2020)

Patrick has eaten dog food, leading him to act like a worm. When he's kicked out of the animal shelter for being too hostile, even SpongeBob can't train him. Now living in SpongeBob's house, Patrick keeps everyone awake with his barking. Squidward, confident that he can get Patrick to stop, has to prove himself and give Patrick the Tough Love he needs.

The episode contains examples of:

  • All Animals Are Dogs: Patrick acts like a worm (which is an undersea equivalent of dogs) thorough the entire episode.
  • Ascended Meme: The "Mocking SpongeBob" meme from "Little Yellow Book" returns, but this time, it's Patrick who turns into a chicken.
  • Beware of Vicious Dog: Butcher, the vicious worm locked in the pound. SpongeBob tries to pet him, but has his hand eaten instead. All the other worms are terrified of Butcher, too. At the end, Squidward is made to take care of Butcher, which is when we see him in person for the first time. He takes Squidward for a walk, although he's actually quite polite to SpongeBob and Patrick.
  • The Bus Came Back: Marvin the animal control officer returns after last being seen in Season 12's "Gary and Spot".
  • Eating Pet Food: It's revealed that whenever Patrick eats worm food, he begins to think he's a worm.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently it's not the first time Patrick acted like a worm.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Patrick reveals at the end that he snapped out of worm mode hours ago and only pretended to act like a worm in order to make Squidward feel good about training him.
  • Rule of Three: Squidward tries abandoning Patrick in the kelp forest twice. By the third time, Patrick is the one who abandons Squidward in the kelp forest.
  • Suddenly Always Knew That: After many unsuccessful attempts to train Patrick, Squidward tries to show the animal control officer what he tried to teach him, when suddenly Patrick does every command Squidward tells him (even ones he didn't try to teach him). Patrick says that he already knew all the tricks, he just wanted to make Squidward feel good for having "trained" him.
  • Shock and Awe: The shock collar that Squidward puts on Patrick ends up shocking him, but only tickles Patrick.
  • Shapeshifting: Patrick turns into a chicken nugget after turning into a chicken.
  • Shout-Out: Chokey the Sea Bear is a reference to Smokey the Bear.
  • Urine Trouble: Patrick urinates after SpongeBob mistakenly claims that he's house broken.
  • White Flag: When SpongeBob is frightened by Butcher the vicious worm, he retreats into his pants and waves out his white shirt attached to one of his arms, similar to waving a white flag as a sign of surrender.
