“I'm Usagi Tsukino. I'm 16 years old, and go to Juban High School. I'm a bit of a klutz, and get teased for being a crybaby... But the truth is, I'm the Pretty Guardian who fights for love and for justice... I am Sailor Moon.”
Usagi Tsukino

The story reaches its conclusion as Usagi makes a final stand to thwart Sailor Galaxia's plans and revive her friends.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Back from the Dead: Mamoru, the Sailor Guardians, Kakyuu and Chibi Chibi are all resurrected once the Star Seeds are freed from Chaos' control.
  • Barbie Doll Anatomy: Usagi fights the final battle naked, and she lacks nipples, pubic hair and genitalia.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Leaning heavily towards the "sweet" side. With Galaxia freed from Chaos' influence, everyone who was killed during the previous battles are revived, including the Sailor Guardians of the Solar System and Mamoru. However, the Guardians, along with Galaxia and Chibi Chibi, and the Starlights and Kakyuu, all have to go their separate ways.
  • Book Ends: The first episode begins with Usagi introducing herself as an ordinary middle school student and a klutzy crybaby. At the end of this episode, she introduces herself as a high school student and a klutzy crybaby who's actually Sailor Moon.
  • But Now I Must Go:
    • Chibi Chibi ventures into space to reunite with Galaxia as her Star Seed.
    • Later, the Starlights and Kakyuu return to their homeworld, but not before bidding farewell to the other Sailor Guardians.
  • Call-Back: Luna is starstruck while saying goodbye to Yaten, much to Artemis' frustration.
  • Cold Open: The final episode starts with revealing how Galaxia sent her Star Seed into the void of space, hoping it would reach someone who would embrace her and fight for love and justice.
  • Comically Missing the Point: During the Starlights' final farewell to the Sailor Guardians of the Solar System, Seiya tells Usagi that she will never forget her. Then, to everyone's dismay, Usagi assures her that they will forever be friends, not understanding that what Seiya feels for her is more than just friendship.
  • Continuity Nod: During their farewell, Seiya tells Mamoru that, from now on, he must protect Usagi, referencing the time Haruka told her the same, two episodes earlier.
  • Death of a Child: At one point during her battle with Usagi, Chaos slashes the Sword of Sealing, which transforms into Chibi Chibi Moon. While Usagi sadly cradles her, she dies in her arms and disappears.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: Usagi faces the Chaos possessed Galaxia in the nude with angel wings on her back and her soul displayed on her chest.
  • Full Moon Silhouette: Usagi and Mamoru share a final kiss with the moon behind them.
  • Gigantic Moon: The moon in the background of Usagi and Mamoru's final scene is much larger than in real life.
  • Grand Finale: This is the final episode of both Sailor Stars and the first Sailor Moon anime as a whole, ending a story five years in the making.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Usagi is given a sword to fight Galaxia with, but her reluctance to finish Galaxia off with it causes the sword to be broken midway through the battle.
  • History Repeats: Galaxia fears that with Chaos being released, then the tragedy of the Sailor Wars will happen once more.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Sailor Moon tries to reach out to Galaxia by saying that she too has a fragment of hope and believes in the same things she does. She does this to help Galaxia overcome Chaos' influence.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: After Rei exasperates over Usagi being clueless once more, Usagi confirms that she can be clueless..
  • In Medias Res: The last episode picks up with Chibi Chibi Moon unleashing her true power as the Light of Hope.
  • Instant Costume Change:
    • Usagi regains her Princess Serenity dress after accepting the light from Galaxia's Star Seed.
    • The Three Lights turn into the Starlights as they head off into the stars.
  • Ironic Echo: After Chaos consumes Galaxia's body and turns into Sailor Chaos, she gives her own In the Name of the Moon declaration.
Sailor Chaos: In the name of Chaos, I will rule this galaxy!
  • Irony: Despite this being the Grand Finale of the "Sailor Moon" anime, Usagi never once appears as Sailor Moon in this episode.
  • Last Episode Theme Reprise: This episode uses a full version of "Sailor Star Song" during the final battle against Galaxia. Then as the special end credits roll, Moon Lips's rendition of the first opening theme, "Moonlight Legend" plays once more.
  • Must Make Amends: As Galaxia is still upset with herself over the horrible deeds she committed, Usagi suggests that she start her path to atonement by guiding every Star Seed back to their original homes.
  • Mythology Gag: Chibi Chibi Moon takes on a form that's reminiscent of Sailor Cosmos as she introduces herself to Usagi.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: At the conclusion of the series, Chaos calls Sailor Moon a hypocrite, as Usagi claimed she wanted to end violence while simultaneously wielding Sailor Galaxia's sword. Sailor Moon, on the other hand, disagrees.
  • Oh, Crap!: Sailor Galaxia can only scream in shock the moment Usagi exorcises Chaos from her body.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Sailor Chaos proposes a new solution to ending the ongoing Sailor Wars by wiping out every light in existence.
  • One-Winged Angel: During the final battle, Chaos's manifestation powers up Galaxia, giving her devil wings and a black uniform.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Usagi gains angel wings after she wields the Sword of Sealing. Galaxia gains demonic wings when Chaos fully possesses her.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: At the conclusion of their duel, Chaos tries breaking Usagi's will by calling her no different to it, saying she claims to be above fighting but that she is a guardian proves she loves battle. Unfortunately for Chaos, Usagi rebuffs this with a "Shut Up, Hannibal!".
  • Scenery Censor: When Usagi defeats Galaxia, the star seeds begin to hover around. Fully nude, she begins to talk to Galaxia, who is now freed from Chaos, while a little star seed hovers directly in front of her genitals. Earlier in the episode, in some shots of a fully naked Usagi, her genitals are covered by either her hair or her wings as well.
  • So Proud of You: The Solar System Guardians and Mamoru express how proud they are of their princess for saving the galaxy.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Unlike in the manga, Sailor Galaxia, Chibi-Chibi and the Sailor Starlights survive the final battle.
  • Tears of Joy: Usagi sheds these when she's reunited with Mamoru.
  • That's All, Folks!: In The Stinger, Usagi/Sailor Moon says "The end!", followed by the Inner Guardians saying "See ya!"
  • This Cannot Be!: Sailor Chaos is floored to see that Usagi's love is able to make the stolen Star Seeds surround them.
  • Time Skip: A short amount of time passes between Chaos' defeat and the Starlights leaving for Kinmoku.
  • Voice of the Legion: Upon becoming possessed by Chaos, Galaxia speaks as if many voices are talking at once.
  • Wish Upon a Shooting Star: In the Outers' last scene, they are observing the twilight sky and see shooting stars (heavily implied to be the Sailor Starlights and Princess Kakyuu travelling back to their home planet). Setsuna and Hotaru make a wish, but don't reveal what, and when Michiru is asked what she wished for, she says that she didn't wish for anything, as she already has everything she wants.
  • World-Healing Wave: Implied. Based on the Time Skip, Juuban is shown to have been restored after Galaxia's apocalyptic rampage. It's also implied that the ravaged planets beyond the Solar System were restored as well based on Kakyuu's comment.
  • You Are Not Alone: After defeating Chaos, Usagi floats in the sky and cries about her loneliness since her True Companions were all killed by Galaxia. However, once Rei invokes the trope name, Usagi reunites with the Sailor Guardians.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Seiya is a tad annoyed that Usagi didn't get the message from his hidden "confession".
