"Eudial set up a trap to lure in Uranus and Neptune so she can steal their Pure Heart Crystals. And they turned out to be the Talismans that everyone had been searching for! Hang in there Haruka-san and Michiru-san! I'm on the case. And I'll find a way to save you! No matter what, I will protect this world!”
Usagi Tsukino

(CWi Episode: "The Purity Chalice")

The Inner Guardians must hurry to stop Eudial who managed to get the upper hand and steal the two Talismans. Though the tide turns in their favor when the Sailor Pluto appears with her own Talisman followed by the grand appearance of the Holy Grail.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Amplifier Artifact: The Holy Grail is described as an artifact that will grant absolute power to whoever wields it. It's even boasted to have the ability to create a world of peace or destruction based on the wielder's preferences.
  • Big Damn Heroes: As the Inners contemplate how to escape their fire prison, Tuxedo Mask and Chibi Moon crash in while the Chibi Moon uses Luna-P to extinguish the flames.
  • Big "NO!": Usagi gets this reaction after Sailor Uranus passes out.
  • Continuity Nod: When confronted by Sailor Moon, Eudial casually remarks how she already neutralized her special move once before.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Mars tries to literally "fight fire with fire" by using Burning Mandala against Eudial's fire wall. As Jupiter warns her, it just makes the flames stronger and more unbearable.
  • Disney Death: Just like the victims before, Uranus and Neptune only passed out after losing their Pure Hearts. They get better when Pluto appears and separates the heart crystals from the Talismans.
  • Dub-Induced Plotline Change: In the Cloverway Dub, Mimet used acid-spewing snails to ruin Eugeal's brake system which causes her to crash.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: A young girl dressed in black appears alone in her room when the Holy Grail is revealed.
  • Fire-Breathing Weapon: Eudial unveils her newest Fire Buster 2 which overpowers the Guardians and traps them in a circle of fire.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: Eudial was always known for her Drives Like Crazy habit. Mimete exploits this by removing her brakes, knowing that her ex-senpai wouldn't notice until she's driving midway.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • The Inner Guardians learn about the Messiah.
    • Setsuna reveals her Sailor identity to the Inners by transforming.
  • It Has Only Just Begun: Eudial tries to argue against dying saying that the battle against the Sailor Guardians has only just begun. While that itself is true, she won't be alive to see it.
  • Light 'em Up: The entire cathedral fills up with light after Moon reaches for the Holy Grail and unlocks it's power.
  • Living MacGuffin: After seeing Sailor Moon pass out from the Holy Grail, Uranus and Neptune decide that they must find the one true Messiah.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The Inners are flabbergasted after Eudial appears to swipe the sword and mirror Talismans from under their noses.
  • Mood Whiplash:
    • The serious situation involving stopping the witch from stealing the Outer's Pure Hearts takes a comical turn when Eudial uses a sticky gun to trap the Inners.
    • Everything is joyous and full of hope as the Outer Guardians are brought together and use their Talismans to summon the Holy Grail. But everything takes a shocking turn when the scene cuts to the screams of a young girl as dark energy emits from her body.
  • Mysterious Watcher: Setsuna spends the first act watching over Sailor Moon as she rushes to reach up to the head witch.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Eudial escapes from the cathedral still knowing the civilian identities of the Sailor Guardians. That precious information is lost thanks to Mimete tampering with her breaks causing her to die via car crash.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Sailor Pluto uses her Talisman to magically retrieve the stolen Talismans. She then separates the Pure Hearts from them allowing Uranus and Neptune to live.
  • No-Sell:
    • Mercury's Shine Aqua Illusion has zero effect on Eudial's fire wall.
    • Moon's finishing move is easily neutralized by Fire Buster 2.
    • Eudial's Fire Buster 2 is returned to her after Super Sailor Moon uses her hand to stop it from attacking her.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: The Holy Grail has been recovered thus ending the "Talisman" Arc. And Eudial is killed off while her underling Mimete takes over.
  • Previously on…: Usagi informs the audience about how Eudial exposed the Talismans from the hearts of Haruka and Michiru.
  • The Promise: Before joining the others, Sailor Moon promised to herself and the Outer Guardians that she'd get back their Talismans and find a way to return their Pure Hearts.
  • Pun: Sailor Moon aka Usagi aka a bunny has to hop her way past Eudial's Sticky Situation. Chibi Moon even compares her to the fairy tale The Hare of Inaba.
  • Red Herring: Everyone initially believed that Usagi was the Messiah who would save the world. This is made more apparent with Uranus envisioning her as the Messiah throughout the two-parter. To their disappointment, she's not the Messiah as she ends up passing out after using the Holy Grail. A requirement being that the Messiah should have no issue using that raw power.
  • Ritual Magic: Using her Garnet Orb Talisman, Pluto brings forth the Sword and Mirror Talismans followed by resurrecting Uranus and Neptune by returning the Pure Hearts incased within. Once they awaken, the three use their powers to summon the Holy Grail.
  • Shout-Out: Chibi Moon mentions The Hare of Inaba fairy tale after Sailor Moon jumps across the sticky floor using her friends as jumping pads. Mars bitterly wonders if that makes everyone else the sharks.
  • Spoiler Title: The episode gives away what's to appear.
  • Sticky Situation: Eudial uses a sticky gun to wash the floor with a gooey substance that hinders the Guardians from following her.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: While driving away from the Marine Cathedral, Eudial gets a call from Mimete who cheekily informs her that she's been fired while calling her a disgrace to the Witches 5.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: In the original, a gooed up Venus warns Sailor Moon that she'll never forgive her for being jumped on if she lets Eudial get away.
  • This Means War!: A battered and defeated Eudial gets away vowing vengeance on Sailor Moon. Mimete, has other plans...
  • Transformation Sequence:
    • Setsuna transforms into Sailor Pluto by yelling the phrase "Pluto Planet Power, Make Up!".
    • Sailor Moon gets a new transformation into Super Sailor Moon after making contact with the Holy Grail.
  • We Win, Because You Didn't: Professor Tomoe gleefully informs Mimete that it doesn't matter if the Guardians have the Holy Grail as they don't have anyone to use its complete power. And as long as they are without a Messiah, then the Death Busters can carry out their preparations for their own Messiah of Silence.
  • Wham Episode: Sailor Pluto appears and helps to summon the Holy Grail for Sailor Moon to use. Also, Eudial is killed off after Mimete sabotages her car's brakes.
  • Wham Shot: The last scene has Mimete asking if the Death Busters already has their Messiah who can use the Holy Grail's powers. Professor Tomoe responds with yes which then cuts to the fragile girl who was in pain earlier.
  • You Are Fat: In the Viz Dub, after being used as a jumping pad for Sailor Moon, Mars comments that the rabbit from the fairy tale wasn't as heavy as her friend.
