"Haruka. Michiru. Won't you please stop going after Pure Hearts? I know we've had our differences but we can still work it out. I mean we're all Sailor Guardians fighting for the same cause, right? If we work together, I'm sure we can find a way to save the world even without the Talismans. I know we can!”
Usagi Tsukino

(CWi Episode: "Destiny's Arrival")

With her knowledge of the Guardians' identities along with the impending threat of being replaced by another witch, Eudial organizes an elaborate trap for the Outer Guardians by enticing them with the whereabouts of the true Talisman Holders. And despite Usagi's protests, Haruka and Michiru follow through preparing to accept whatever destiny has in store for them.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Act of True Love: Realizing that her girlfriend is seconds away from being shot at, Neptune breaks free from her bindings to save her. Even after enduring "Punishment by God" twice, she still stands ready and willing to protect Uranus.
  • As You Know: Before stepping inside the Marine Cathedral, Neptune reminds Uranus of their vow to obtain the Talismans no matter the cost and how they should ignore the other if something grievous were to happen to them.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Eudial looks as though she's grandly playing the cathedral's pipe organ as she bids Sailor Uranus to find Neptune, only for it to turn out she had a portable stereo next to her the whole time and she was pretending for no reason other than to be dramatic.
  • Bathos:
    • The head witch's Evil Gloating through Haruka's receiver is cut short as soon as the machine cuts her off. She has to make another call before continuing.
    • Once Uranus is weakened by the bullets shot at her, Eudial takes the moment to turn off her radio which was how she was playing her Ominous Pipe Organ music.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Averted. Usagi shows up and knocks Eudial away, forcing her to flee. To her dismay, she can't get the Talisman to go back inside Neptune and Uranus follows through with extracting her own Talisman.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Mimete is described as a two-faced girl known for putting on a cutesy appearance while hiding how underhanded and devious she truly is.
  • Book Ends: In the beginning, Haruka teased Michiru about going off into her own world without her while alone in their apartment. In the end, she says it's not fair that Michiru gets to die or "go off in her own world without her".
  • Breaking the Fellowship: During Rei's segment, she's disheartened to hear that Haruka and Michiru consider themselves to be official enemies that the Inners will never understand.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Haruka steals Usagi's Cosmic Brooch to keep her from interfering with her mission. She gives it back after Usagi shows up to stop Eudial.
  • The Cavalry Arrives Late: The Inner Guardians appear only after Haruka and Michiru's Talismans are exposed.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Usagi crying over Haruka and Michiru's deaths while her friends, and Setsuna, watch from a distance.
  • Commonality Connection: Defied. Haruka rejects Minako's suggestion of working together because they're all Sailor Guardians claiming that the Outers walk a different path compared to the Inners.
  • Creepy Cathedral: The head witch bases her trap inside the Marine Cathedral, a giant church founded in the middle of the ocean and is still under construction. The rooms have already been modified with traps designed to overpower the Outers.
  • Dare to Be Badass: Setsuna informs Usagi that she can help her reach the Outer Guardians but warns her of the great risks that come with her inability to transform. Usagi doesn't care and is all too eager to help however she can.
  • The Determinator: Despite Uranus stealing her broach and ordering her to stay away if she knows what's good for her, and after some encouragement from Setsuna Meioh, Usagi heads for the Marine Cathedral untransformed and on foot and still tries to stop Eudial by bodily charging at her.
  • Driven to Suicide: Uranus uses Eudial's Capture Gun to pull out her Talisman and complete her mission.
  • Dub Name Change: Setsuna becomes Trista in the Cloverway dub.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: While alone in her office space, Eudial expresses fury that her co-witches would laugh at her behind her back while forgetting who trained them all to begin with.
  • Empathic Environment: After Haruka declares that this will be the last time she and Michiru will ever see Usagi, the colorful fish in the aquarium turn black while the water turns a blank shade of teal. To place greater emphasis on the tragic conversation between the three Guardians.
  • Evil Gloating: Eudial calls Haruka's house to brag about finally finding the true holders and how it's only a matter of time before she gets her hands on them.
  • Foreshadowing: A familiar-looking woman named Setsuna Meioh appears to Usagi with a way to help the Outers. She describes herself as an "old friend" of theirs and Chibi-usa notices her while out in public.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Eudial creates a new computer program that will accurately identify the Talisman holders. And she creates it just as she learns that she's one slip-up away from being replaced.
  • Gossipy Hens: Mimete and the other witches gossip over Eudial's ongoing failures and incompetence at completing missions.
  • Gray Rain of Depression: It's pouring all over Juuban as the Guardians process the revelations made in the previous episode.
  • Half-Truth: Eudial calls to inform the Outers that she knows who the true Talisman holders are. She just doesn't say who they are.
  • Hit Flash: The camera cuts to an empty hallway as Uranus takes out her Pure Heart with a flashy bang.
  • Holding Hands: While Haruka laments on how she's sullied her hands with (figurative) blood for her past actions, Michiru intertwines her hand with hers while proclaiming that she'll always love her hands no matter what.
  • I Regret Nothing: Usagi thinks back to the Outer Guardian's acceptance to having no regrets for taking the lives of the Talisman holders.
  • Implied Death Threat: Haruka warns Usagi that she'll die the next time she interferes with their mission.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Chibi-usa learned about the Outer Guardians' civilian identities and relays that information to Mamoru.
    • Usagi learns about the Messiah and how she needs the Holy Grail to save the world.
  • Ironic Echo: Before stepping foot inside the cathedral, Neptune reminds Uranus that no matter what happens, they won't let their emotions get the better of them and that they'll leave the other to carry out the mission. They would throw that covenant out the window as soon as they see each other in peril.
  • Irony: As Eudial points out, Uranus and Neptune were all too eager to take the life of anyone who would bear a Talisman without realizing that they were the holders all along.
  • Last Request: Before pulling out her sword Talisman, Haruka tasks Sailor Moon with finding the last Talisman and saving the world from the Silence.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: After Uranus is shot down by the Magic Bullets, Eudial gives an Evil Laugh saying that she fell for it. This could also be her response to the audience when the camera reveals that her organ music came from her radio and not the organ she was sitting near.
  • Lured into a Trap:
    • Using the information on the Talisman holders as bait, Eudial convinces the Outer Guardians to venture into the Marine Cathedral where she has a legion of giant stone tablets ready to destroy them.
    • It happens a second time where she instructs Uranus to meet her in another room so she can reunite with Neptune. As Uranus rushes in, she's immediately gunned down by Magic Bullets from the room's tablets.
  • Magitek: Eudial's first trap involves summoning stone tablets to attack the Outers. She controls them all via a voodoo foosball table.
  • Magic Bullets: Eudial's stone tablets can also shoot black magic bullets to neutralize her foes.
  • Mood Whiplash: Eudial’s ominous message to the Outers cuts off due to her using up her time on the pay phone, forcing her to leave another message.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: Michiru confides in Haruka that she's been having a strange dream claiming that she's never felt it before. Haruka would admit that she also had that dream and knows the reason.
Haruka: Today, without a doubt, a Talisman will appear.
  • Old Friend: Setsuna describes herself as an old companion to Haruka and Michiru, even commenting on how she's known them for "a long time".
  • Ominous Pipe Organ: Eudial plays "Toccata and Fugue" with her organ after kidnapping Neptune while announcing to her partner about the first Talisman holder. It's subverted when it turns out that she was actually playing it from her radio.
  • Only the Worthy May Pass: Invoked. Eudial gleefully informs Uranus that anyone other than her who passes through the hall will be punished by God (aka Magic Bullets).
  • Prank Punishment: For her failures as a head witch and for not finding Talismans, Mimete places a tack inside Eudial's slippers followed by putting snails in her locker.
  • Rule of Symbolism: As Neptune is gunned down a second time, the scene shows a beautiful pink rose being thrown onto the floor. A testament to how the elegant but stoic Ocean Guardian is willing to disregard her life for something greater.
  • Sad-Times Montage: Each Inner girl is shown alone with her thoughts while processing Haruka and Michiru's mission. Ami is researching books in a library, Makoto is walking outside in the city, Rei is at home looking at the rain, Minako is venting her frustration at the arcade, and Usagi is in her bed wallowing in sorrow.
  • Say My Name: Uranus calls out to Neptune after she endures a second round of bullets.
  • Spoiler Title: Subtlety thy name is not Sailor Moon.
  • Suicide Dare: Inside Eudial's locker, Mimete leaves a tasteless letter reading "Die, you station wagon snail woman!".
  • Taking the Bullet: Neptune pushes Uranus from being taken by a stone tablet only to be abducted instead.
  • This Cannot Be!: Uranus believes that it's impossible for her partner to have a Talisman in her Pure Heart.
  • To Be Continued: The Cloverway dub of the episode (only the edited version which was aired on Cartoon Network and released on VHS) add a "To be continued..." subtitle to the end of the episode.
  • Travel Cool: The Outers make their way to the abandoned cathedral via helicopter.
  • The Villain Knows Where You Live: Eudial is able to directly call Haruka's apartment after learning of her secret identity as Sailor Uranus.
  • Wham Episode: Two of the Talismans are revealed.
  • Wham Line:
    • After capturing Sailor Neptune, Eudial begins to brag about who in the world possess the Talismans.
Eudial: I'm saying that Talismans were sealed inside none other than your partner, Sailor Neptune!
    • Then later on, she tells Uranus about how she plans to take the second Talisman.
Sailor Uranus: The other one? There are two here?
Eudial (pointing her Capture Gun at her): I'm pointing right at it.
  • Wham Shot: Sailor Neptune is the first to have her Pure Heart extracted which soon transforms into a mirror, the first Talisman.
  • Who Dares?: Uranus whispers this to Eudial after falling for her second trap.
