Written and storyboarded by Calvin Wong and Minty Lewis.

On the hottest day of the summer, Mordecai, Rigby and the rest of the gang enter a battle of the bands competition so they can win an air conditioner.

Tropes:

  • A cappella: The band decides to perform that way after breaking their instruments.
  • All Just a Dream: The final acapella performance ends up being a heatstroke-induced hallucination.
  • Badass Boast: "We're Mordecai and the Rigbys, and we rock so hard we don't need instruments!"
  • Author Tract: In-universe: Mordecai's new song to replace "Keepin' It Cool" seems to be about his frustrations with putting up with Benson's domineering behavior in the band.
  • Bait-and-Switch: After destroying each others instruments in a rage and making up, the ending has the band get on stage and rock out so hard they manifest new instruments and win the new air conditioner. except they don't. They collapsed from heat stroke before they can even perform their set and place last in the contest, and the next time they wake up they're in the hospital.
  • Battle of the Bands: Mordecai and the Rigbys enter one because the band that places first wins a free air conditioner.
  • Bowdlerization: The following parts were altered when aired on Cartoon Network in the United Kingdom:
    • Muscle Man's line "If I don't take 'em [my pants] off, I can't cool 'em off. Simple science, bro" was changed to "You want me to pass out from heat exhaustion? Get over it, bro!"
    • The infamous scene of Eileen being distracted by how hot Rigby was edited to make her being aroused less obvious (though the part where her pupils dilate wasn't altered and the edit didn't seem to alter how risque the scene was). In the original scene, Eileen watches Rigby, her eyes are dilated, and she says, in a somewhat dazed voice, "Feel better now?" before coughing, and repeating in her normal voice, "Feel better now, Rigby?" The UK version had part of Eileen asking Rigby if he feels better in a dazed voice, but before she can finish saying "Feel," the part where she coughs cuts in and the scene plays as normal.
    • Mordecai's line about breaking up the band changed "Don't want to end up as British dirtbags" to "Don't want to end up as two losers."
  • Bizarro Episode: invoked Inverted. Not counting the Success Hallucination that happens in the end, this is the only episode where nothing crazy or supernatural happens.
  • Call-Back:
  • The Cake Is a Lie: Rigby separately asks Benson and the rest of the Mordecai and the Rigbys to come to the back to the coffee shop with a promise of there being pizza. This was really just a ploy to get them to meet together and work out their differences.
  • The Cameo: Party Pete, Ladonna and Auto T.
  • Control Freak: Benson is a big one when it comes to the song.
  • Cruel Twist Ending: Played for Laughs. The ending performance turned out to be a dream and they placed last in the Battle of the Bands after collapsing from heat stroke. At least the hospital room they were put in had an AC.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Happens of all people to Eileen while seeing a sweaty Rigby rub a glass of water all over his face. Her pupils really dilate.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Eileen.
  • The Heart: Rigby.
  • Heat Wave: What kicks off the plot. Mordecai and Rigby want to win an air conditioner to cope with the extreme heat.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Mordecai doesn't want Muscle Man to remove his pants. The same Mordecai who never wears clothes.
  • Jaw Drop: Eileen and Thomas have this reaction upon seeing the exhausted Mordecai and the Rigbys perform.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Mordecai comes out of the stall door and sees a livid Benson having heard his discussion with the rest of the band to demote him.
  • The Power of Rock: It gives them new instruments... or does it? It doesn't.
  • Right Behind Me: The rest of Mordecai and the Rigbys are in the bathroom stall, having discussed and agreed to demote Benson as their leader. Little did they know, Benson was listening on the other side of the stall door, much to his fury.
  • Rock Opera: Benson has been working on a little thing he calls Bensonphonia.
  • Rockers Smash Guitars: Before the concert, though. Hikey!
  • Schmuck Bait: When Mordecai dissingly bangs a gong on Benson's drum set, he warns him not to do that again, or he’ll cut the strings on his guitar. Mordecai immediately bangs it again anyway, and Benson does good on his warning, which makes Mordecai angrily start the destruction of their equipment.
  • Ship Tease: Eileen sure does like what she's seeing.
  • Success Hallucinations: It turns out that the band winning was a hallucination caused by the heat wave.
