Sophocles, Lillie is having enough of an issue with her mother. Don't cross her.

The students of the Pokémon School make their first trip to the Aether Foundation compound. Once there, they have to deal with a Ditto that is particularly sneaky. But one of Lusamine's associates, Faba, may have ulterior motives as he ends up hiring Jessie and James for a rogue project.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Adaptation Expansion: In the games, Lusamine's mansion was initially only three rooms large with the staircases and two doors barred off save for the bedroom. Here, it's massive.
  • Afraid of Needles: The rogue Ditto they're chasing throughout the Paradise is trying to get out of getting a vaccination. A number of the classmates understand the Ditto's feelings by revealing they aren't fond of shots themselves.
    • Oddly, closer inspection reveals that the tool used isn't even a needle, rather a pad.
  • Death Glare: Lillie gives Sophocles a particularly cold one (see the episode image) when he insists on finishing his chocolate cake before she gives them a tour of the Aether Foundation compound.
  • Here We Go Again!: The Japanese Stinger shows Burnet searching for the escaped Ditto again. It drags away a Quagsire, that has the same eye design, before the Ditto reveals itself to the audience.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: At one point, Faba chucks Rowlet away. Later, he gets nailed in the face by the rogue Ditto.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Team Rocket again are not found out when they're in Aether Foundation uniforms under the direction of Faba. The twerps are still oblivious when the exasperated trio are made to serve them food directly in front of them.
  • Parental Obliviousness: Lusamine keeps getting interrupted by phone calls. Eventually, Lillie gives up and takes the other students on the promised tour of the Aether Foundation herself.
  • Tempting Fate: When Ditto's tendency to not change it's face is pointed out, the twerps decide to look for Pokémon with black dots for eyes. Then they find a crowd of Quagsire, who under the "black dots for eyes" description, fits it perfectly.
  • Tranquil Fury: Downplayed. Lillie shows traces of this when getting fed up with her mother but slips into some ranting during the next scene.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Faba doesn't seem fazed by the fact that he's practically given a talking Meowth a job.
