Lyla is put on trial for shooting a Time Police agent by mistake.
- Actually a Doombot: Lyla actually shot a robot created by Gottfresh's men. Then they replace him when they come back to the future.
- Break the Cutie: Lyla has to face the guilt of shooting another timepoliceman, being the first droid ever to face a trial (where the prosecution tries to use her as proof that all droids are ultimately defective and should be destroyed), while some weird visions are messing up her programming.
- Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Eugene Photomas, widely considered one of the best lawyer of the 23th century... now, if only he could remember which case they were discussing...
- Deconstruction:
- Of the whole "Unhumans get human rights": Lyla and the rest of the droids are no longer considered simple machines, but that also means that they must face responsibilities for their actions, instead of simply undergoing maintenance if they do something bad.
- Of Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Paperinik gets Gottfresh to confess to his crimes, but it works more against him than anything. While the confession can be used as Blackmail, it's worthless in a court of law, since a confession given under threat of force is inadmissible. In fact, Paperinik gets arrested for breaking-and-entering, assault, and vigilantism.
- Dirty Old Man: Leonard Vertighel, despite having aged very well, is clearly getting on in the years, and he specifically designed Lyla as she is for lustful reasons. Would've probably been more explicit had this not been a kids' comic.
- Green-Skinned Space Babe: Downplayed with Mantis, an attractive gynoid from the future with electric blue skin.
- High-Altitude Interrogation: Paperinik hangs The Governor out of a flying police car to force him in doing something to help Lyla.
- In Medias Res: The episode starts immediately with Lyla (who's having visions) and PK hunting for a duo of dangerous Time Pirates.
- Ironic Echo: "I was joking."
- Kiss Me, I'm Virtual: Vertightel loves Lyla and sees her as the perfect woman.
- Know When to Fold Them: Mantis and Thorben tries to flee as soon as Paperinik arrives at Gottfresh's home.Gottfresh:"Stop him! Do something!"Mantis:"You made him angry! See ya!!"
- Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: Deconstructed. Paperinik uses this to force Gottfresh into confessing that he was behind Lyla's crime and trial. Then it turns out that a confession given under threat of force means nothing in the eyes of the law.
- Just a Machine: Averted: now there is a "Droid Chart" that gives the same rights as humans. It's the reason Lyla was put on trial instead than getting a check-up. Geena would be happy.
- Love Makes You Crazy: Vertighel's ambition of creating the perfect woman eventually drove him insane.
- Never Found the Body: Vertighel seemingly dies in the fire, but his remains weren't found. That being said, he didn't make another appearence until Droids, where we see how he got to work for Eidolon.
- Or My Name Isn't...: Eugene Photomas couldn't finish this sentence because he forgot his name.
- Prehensile Hair: Mantis.Paperinik simply cut them.
- Red Herring: Played With: Gottfresh was the one to stage the incident where Lyla shot a collegue, but he wasn't the cause of the strange glitches in all those 5Y models (Lyla included). Those were caused by the biochips Leonard Vertighel installed to find the perfect woman.
- Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: The Governor uses his political powers to spare the jail to Paperinik.
- Shout-Out: Paperinik's special suit is reminiscent of Ultraman.
- Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Paperinik manages to infiltrate Gottfresh's house, discover his Evil Plan, evade his guards and even force him to record a confession. Then the police arrive and arrest the hero for trepassing and attempted kidnapping. To add salt to the wound, Photomas warns him that the recording is worth nothing, since no judge would accept an extorted confession.
- Take Over the World: Defied: Paperinik thinks that Lyla's designer, Leonard Vertighel altered robots to take over the world, but Vertighel mocks him on hearing this ("Be frank with me: you read a lot of comic books, do you?"): in fact, he "just" wanted to create the perfect woman.
- That Was Objectionable: Seeing Lyla's difficulty during the trial, Paperinik (who had already been warned by the judge) shouts "Objection!" since nobody else was doing it. He is kicked out from the court.
- Voice with an Internet Connection: Eidolon reprises his former role to help Paperinik spying Gottfresh. Donald (who doesn't know Odin is actually One) even lampshades how much the situation is similar.
- Wham Line: "I found a Biochip!"
- When Trees Attack: The plants in Vertighel's home/greenhouse come to life at the order of their master.
