The Light Novel contains the following tropes:

  • 0% Approval Rating: About six nations willingly support the Sorcerer Kingdom in decimating Re-Estize.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Renner did indeed plan to possibly undermine the Sorcerer Kingdom despite having just betrayed her country, but Ainz's appearance not only demolishes that idea but also forces Renner to fully submit to him out of fear and respect.
  • Assassination Attempt: Platinum Dragon Lord tries to kill Ainz. Unfortunately for him, he got the wrong Ainz...
  • Asshole Victim: Ainz believes that any "pests" that are still living within the Re-Estize Kingdom following Zanac's unjust death are beyond saving and should just be destroyed.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Ainz accurately pegs the whole situation regarding Philip's theft on the transports, deeming it as him not thinking things through.
  • Batman Gambit: King Ramposa tries this; he offers his head in hopes to appease Ainz and if that didn't work and they try to still continue the war, the Re-Estize kingdom will be regarded as martyrs. This unfortunately will not work at all because the Re-Estize kingdom has gotten a 0% Approval Rating so large that almost all of the neighboring countries will wholeheartedly believe that the Sorcerer Kingdom's plan is a good thing.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Zanac's traitorous nobles killed him in hopes to find salvation within the Sorcerer Kingdom. Ainz will spare their lives because he won't grant them the mercy of death.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Hilma is extremely grateful to Ainz Ooal Gown for stepping in to protect her from his monstrous subordinates. It's because of this act that she finally sees Ainz's benevolence that it made her even more loyal to him.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Azuth comes to E-Naüru in his Powered Armor and manages to drive Nazarick's forces off. Downplayed Trope as Ainz ordered his forces to retreat so that he can discover his new challengers.
  • Body Double: The Ainz Ooal Gown that's fighting Platinum Dragon Lord is actually Pandora's Actor in disguise; it's all part of Ainz's plan to expose his enemies into the open.
  • The Coup: Seeing that his father is unwilling to break his stance about offering peaceful solutions, Zanac and his men overthrew him and let him be the king.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Let's face it, when you read that Climb challenges Ainz to the battle to the death, you knew who was going to come out on top.
  • Downer Ending: The Re-Estize Kingdom is completely demolished and any territory belonging to them now belongs to Ainz Ooal Gown. And many of the more noble characters have either gone into hiding or had been killed.
  • Dramatic Irony: Happens all thoughout the novel.
    • Climb and Ramposa think they must hide their Royal Treasures in fear the Sorcerer King would use them to bolster their power but in truth, Ainz don't really care since, to him, those items are just low-grade.
    • In one of the most tragic examples, Climb comes to the conclusion that Ainz Ooal Gown brainwashed Renner to murder King Ramposa. Unfortunately for him, that's not the case; Renner willingly murdered her father in cold blood.
  • Et Tu, Brute?:
    • Cocco Doll realizes he's being sold out by his criminal compatriots to the Sorcerer Kingdom.
    • Lakyus will feel that way once that Mind Control spell Evileye put on her wears off.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: The Slane Theocracy have always had a beef with the Re-Estize Kingdom but even they were caught by surprise by Philip's idiocy that lead to his kingdom's destruction. The theocracy even secretly hopes Ainz destroys the kingdom, deeming it beyond redemption.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Zanac chooses to meet his end but his men are not so enthusiastic.
  • Face–Monster Turn: Renner turns herself into an imp with the help of an a race-changing item from Nazarick at the end of the volume, signifying her true allegiances.
  • A Father to His Men: Ramposa become an extreme example of this following Gazef's death that he refuses to offer Philip, the instigator of this war, as a sacrifice to the Sorcerer Kingdom. Although, Zanac believes that his father's actions is less about this and more about wanting to spite Ainz.
  • Forgiven, but Not Forgotten: The Holy Kingdom hasn't forgotten the Re-Estize Kingdom's lack of aid during the whole Jaldabaoth incident. Now, the transports carrying supplies and food for them has been stolen by a Re-Estize noble will definitely cause them to sever all ties to their former allies for good.
  • Gone Horribly Right: The Sorcerer had planned to use Philip and his faction of nobles to gradually destabilize Re-Estize, which would gradually brew into a civil war that would give the Sorcerer Kingdom casus belli to invade. Thanks to Philip being stupider than expected, his actions force the kingdom to invade much earlier than they intended and shift goals from annexation to annihilation.
  • The Good Guys Always Win: Ainz lampshades this during his duel with Climb. Unfortunately for the latter, this isn't a fairy tale.
  • I Choose to Stay: Despite their father ordering them to leave the Re-Estize Kingdom to escape the massacre, Zanac and Renner chooses to stay and protect their kingdom.
    • Lakyus chooses to stay and fight for her kingdom but her teammates have other ideas...
  • Last Request: Before he meets his end, Philip's father requests Albedo to torture his son with pain equal to everyone he has done to them. This is a request Albedo gladly accepts.
  • Last Stand: Now knowing about the nobles' traitorous plans for him, Zanac prepares to defend himself. Eventually, he dies.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": When you hear that the Sorcerer Kingdom has basically decimated more than half of your territory, you'll be wide-eyed and slack-jawed too.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Azuth's choice in protecting a city is well-intentioned but his presence has placed the Sorcerer Kingdom on high alert and Ainz Ooal Gown opting for a Xanatos Gambit.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Both Zanac and Ainz come to realize that they might be similar as they both deeply care for their kingdom and would do anything, even trampling on others to ensure their prosperity.
  • Off with His Head!:
    • Zanac's noble allies betray their leader and took his head off in order to give it to Ainz and hope he would spare them from death. It didn't work.
    • Albedo offers Philip a present filled with.....the heads of his closest subordinates.
  • Pretext for War: The Sorcerer Kingdom was using Philip to destabilize the Re-Estize Kingdom, hoping it would lead to a civil war that they would be dragged into, which would justify annexing it. Instead, Philip's actions give them the justification for wiping it off the map.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Some of the people did manage to escape before their kingdom goes down under.
    • Many of the Re-Estize Kingdom's Adventurers join the Slane Theocracy who offer them sanctuary before the kingdom is invaded.
    • Renner and her escorts notice the maids are missing to tend to her needs; most likely have run off from the slaughter that'll happen.
    • Special mention to Blue Roses who actually did want to leave but had to trick and force their leader to come with them.
    • Climb wanted to do that as well but his loyalty to Princess Renner prevents him from doing that.
    • King Ramposa wants his son and daughter to flee but the latter two chooses to stay; Zanac wants to fight for his kingdom and Renner already has a self-assured plan to not be afraid of the impending doom.
  • Trash Talk: The fight between Azuth and Albedo devolves into this.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: All the events of Volume 14 happened because Philip stupidly attacks and steals from one of the Sorcerer Kingdom's transports. Oh, he'll be remembered alright; it's just not the one where he'll be given a medal.
    • The nobles shoot themselves for killing Zanac, the man Ainz actually likes. Not only will the nobles be tortured for eternity, but their actions pushes Ainz to deem everyone in the Re-Estize Kingdom to be beyond saving and be destroyed.
  • Wham Episode:
    • The day where the Re-Estize Kingdom falls.
    • Brain, Zanac, and King Ramposa are all Killed Off for Real.
    • Renner becomes an immortal monster thanks to Nazarick, with Climb soon to become one as well.
  • Who Would Be Stupid Enough?: After that slaughterfest at Katze Plains, there is just no way anyone would be that stupid or suicidal to dare challenge the Sorcerer Kingdom. I mean that Philip couldn't possibly be that dumb... Oh, Crap!.
  • Worthy Opponent: Cocytus believes Brain to be this and gives him a death fitting for a warrior. He even orders his subordinates to not destroy Brain's body and instead freeze it.
  • Xanatos Gambit: The whole purpose of destroying the Re-Estize Kingdom is not just to make an example out of them for their defiance but also to draw out potential enemies into the open. If they do show up, the Sorcerer King wins and if they don't, then the kingdom is dust and the Sorcerer King wins too. Ainz did succeed in drawing Platinum Dragon Lord out and even fooling him into thinking that he was far weaker than ever thought. So, the next time they meet, it's Ainz who will have the upper hand.
  • You Have Failed Me: Nazarick did try to execute Hilma for not putting Philip on tighter leash when he attacked their transports but Ainz manages to prevent this, stating that by their logic, Albedo will be at fault too, since Hilda is her subordinate. Ainz earns Hilma's Undying Loyalty by extending this logic to its conclusion. If the superior is responsible for the subordinate's mistakes, then does Ainz in the end bear responsibility as Albedo's superior? Albedo immediately backs down than insinuate that the Supreme Being could be wrong.
