Dennis attempts to capitalize on Saint Patrick's Day by implementing a "mobile bar" to pick up customers and serve them beer on the way to Paddy's, only to end up kidnapping and robbing them instead. Meanwhile, Charlie embarks on his annual tradition of trying to catch a leprechaun, and believes that he's succeeded when a little person gets caught in one of his traps.
This episode provides examples of the following tropes:
- Artistic License – History: Probably deliberate given the Gang's general ignorance, but St. Patrick never drove the snakes out of Ireland because there were never any snakes in Ireland. note
- Accidental Kidnapping: Dennis, Dee and Frank's "mobile bar" turns into this after they pick up several people in their wagon only to end up robbing them at gunpoint and ditching them in the middle of nowhere.Dee: Did we just kidnap and rob those guys?
- Asshole Victim: The "leprechaun" Charlie captured and beat up turns out to be a pickpocket.
- Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Lampshaded by Dennis at the beginning of the episode, when he states that he only has a few minutes to get through his presentation before the gang's collective ADD kicks in.
- Call-Back:
- Dennis yelling "everybody go get a flute!" echoes his "everybody go get a weapon!" from "The Gang Goes Jihad".
- Dee dresses up as "Crazy Paddy" again.
- Charlie pretending to agree with Mac while clearly not listening to a word he's saying is reminiscent of "The Gang Recycles Their Trash".
- Cloudcuckoolander: Charlie apparently hunts for leprechauns every year on St. Patrick's day, and genuinely believes he's caught one when a little person gets stuck in his glue trap.
- Cold-Blooded Torture: Played for laughs when Mac and Charlie attempt to get the "leprechaun" to talk by dripping water on him from a hose and threatening him with a dead snake. After Mac leaves, Charlie ups the ante and is about to start using a switchblade on him when the others walk in.Charlie: (armed with a straight razor; over the strains of "Stuck in the Middle with You") Well, you may be a man. You may be a leprechaun. But only one thing's for sure: you're in the wroooong basement. (menacingly approaches the leprechaun with the razor)
"Leprechaun": (muffled and panicked) No, no, no!
Charlie: I'mma see if you bleed green... - Complexity Addiction: Dennis's plan might actually have worked if he'd just let the customers pay in cash instead of being so hopelessly committed to his complex system involving the internet.
- The Cuckoolander Was Right: See Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane; depending on whether we're intended to take the second-to-last shot as real or as a paint-induced hallucination, the little person may have actually been a leprechaun.
- Does This Remind You of Anything?: After picking up two young women in the wagon, Dennis tells them that they have to "experience everything he has to offer" and takes pictures of them on his tablet, telling them not to cover up their cleavage because "his customers will want to see it".Woman: (sobbing) I don't wanna be on your weird website!
Dennis: Well, if you don't comply with me, you're gonna end up on the weird one, okay? - Don't Ask: Upon rushing into the basement, Mac makes a calculated effort to ignore any questions he receives about his going to The Rainbow, even though he is clearly sweaty and covered in glitter:Dennis: What is this?
Dee: Why are you covered in glitter?
Mac: I would love to answer all of your questions, but there is no time. You see, I went to the Rainbow to look for a pot of gold.
Dennis: The gay bar?
Dee: Oh.
Mac: Again, no questions. And when I got back, I found (opens the duffle bag he's holding) this bag full of wallets, hidden where we keep the towels!
Dee: Why did you need towels?
Mac: Not answering questions. Okay? - Foreshadowing: While Mac is tending a packed Paddy's, one of the patrons comes up to him, saying someone took his wallet. Not soon after that is when Charlie reveals to Mac the "leprechaun".
- Fighting Irish: Referenced by name when Dee refashions her Crazy Paddy costume into the stereotype.
- Genre Savvy: The "leprechaun" sarcastically admits that his pot of gold is "at the bottom of the rainbow". Mac chooses to hear that as The Rainbow, a local gay bar, and heads there, while Charlie opts to stay behind. This is because, as we learn in a rather disturbing moment, Charlie knows the "leprechaun" is lying:Charlie: (once Mac leaves; to the "leprechaun") All right, well, that just leaves you and me, and, uh... (walks over to a tool chest) we both know there's no pot of gold at that gay bar. So the question is... (leans against and drums fingers on tool chest) what to do with the little liar... (opens tool chest; pulls out hammer)
- Hopeless with Tech: Dennis turns out to be this, despite his insistence that the bar has to move with the times.
- Hypocritical Humor:
- Dennis complains about Uber jacking up their prices on the holiday after Frank strands him and Dee in the middle of nowhere, before immediately saying that they should have been doing the same thing themselves.
- When they are driving around in their mobile bar wagon, Dennis tells Dee to stop putting on her weird Irish barmaid/pirate act because it is scaring the "customers". Right afterwards:"Customer" 1: (nervously) Will you just let us out, please?
Dennis: Well, no! (the customers look scared up at him) ...No, I'm not going to let you out, because I need you to experience everything I have— I have to offer, okay? So, you're experiencing—
Dee:' (takes a large swig of her bottle) Aaaarrrrgh!
Dennis: Dee? ...SHUT UP!
(the "customers" flinch in terror as Dennis appears to lose his temper)
- In-Universe Factoid Failure: Charlie was apparently under the impression that St. Patrick is famous for playing a flute to lure all the kids out of Ireland and then "diddling" them. Frank points out that he's got the legend confused with that of the Pied Piper.
- Insane Troll Logic:
- Charlie claims that they can't dye the beer green using food coloring because "beer isn't a food".
- Charlie apparently thought the leprechaun's pleas that he was actually a pickpocket were code for him actually being a leprechaun.
- Literal-Minded: After the "leprechaun" says under duress that his pot of gold is stashed "at the bottom of the rainbow", Mac decides that he's being literal and that it's at a gay bar called "The Rainbow".
- Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Played for laughs at the end of the episode, when Charlie sees the leprechaun fly away on a rainbow. Dee tells him to stop drinking paint.
- Never My Fault: When they try to intimidate the "leprechaun" with a snake and the hose, Charlie states the snake isn't working right. Mac points out the snake is dead because Charlie put it in a plastic bag and it suffocated. Charlie responds by claiming it doesn't matter, as their captive probably killed it with his "leprechaun magic" anyway. See Cloudcuckoolander.
- Noodle Incident: Mac goes to a gay bar — ostensibly to look for a pot of gold — and comes back disheveled and covered in glitter. He's not taking questions about it.
- Not Hyperbole: After Frank reveals the mobile bar plan "hit a wall, went up in smoke, and then went under", he clarifies:Frank: I fell asleep, crashed into a wall, the engine burst into flames, and I had to drive it into a river.
- Only Sane Man: Mac starts out this way but quickly gets sucked into the madness once Charlie points out that they could stand to get rich if their captive is a leprechaun.
- Paste Eater: Charlie spends much of the episode drinking paint straight from the can.
- Pedophile Priest: Discussed when the gang are arguing over whether St. Patrick was a child molester.Dee: I feel like in the olden days of the Catholic church, pedophiles were regarded as heroes.
- Phrase Catcher: Dee gets called a bitch multiple times by Dennis and Frank.
- Real After All: Subverted. Upon dropping off the pickpocket in the woods, Charlie sees him fly off on a rainbow... to which Dee tells him to stop huffing paint.
- "Scooby-Doo" Hoax: The "leprechaun" is actually a pickpocket in a leprechaun costume.
- Shout-Out: Charlie dancing to "Stuck In The Middle With You" while torturing the leprechaun is a reference to Reservoir Dogs.
- The Sociopath:
- Dennis mentions that he has a "weird" website, but the contents of said website go unexplained. Nevertheless, the context of the scene suggests that his website is violent and/or pornographic in nature.
- Charlie quickly resorts to torture to get the "leprechaun" to say where he keeps his pot of gold.
- Three Wishes: Mac makes an offhand comment about wishing they had a hose immediately before discovering one close by, leading Charlie to conclude that the leprechaun has to grant them three wishes. They immediately waste the remaining two when Mac wishes he could live forever and Charlie wishes that he couldn't.
