Supremoguy

Felipe becomes enamored with comic-book superhero screwdriver Supremoguy, to the extent that he starts to believe himself to be just like him. Meanwhile, construction worker Joe Bolotero’s assistant called in sick that day, and in need of an extra pair of hands he calls Manny.

“Supremoguy” contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: Felipe learns to curb his ego and not try to take over everyone else’s work. Or, as he puts it:
Felipe: A true Super Tool knows not to show off to his amigos.
  • Astonishingly Appropriate Interruption: One happens when Felipe is climbing up a scaffold.
Felipe: I am Supremoguy! I am tougher than a nail! I am faster than a chainsaw! I am-
//Felipe looks down and realizes how far away the ground is//
    Felipe: ...very… high up…
  • Audible Gleam: Felipe emits one when he “poses” after quickly completing some pipe work.
  • Bat Signal: Supremoguy has one that shines his insignia- a sideways view of a Phillips screw.
  • Character Title: Is named after Supremoguy, a comic book superhero Felipe is fond of.
  • Chest Insignia: Supremoguy has one, for a given value of “chest” anyway. It’s a sideways view of a (presumably) Phillips screw.
  • Daydream Believer: It’s not clear whether Felipe acting like Supremoguy is a genuine case of this, or if he’s just using it as an excuse to flaunt his skills.
  • Domino Mask: Supremoguy has one.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: One is triggered by Felipe’s Last-Second Word Swap (see below).
  • Fictional Document: Kelly’s hardware catalog. Apparently, Manny finds it so engrossing that the tools make it their top priority to prevent him from reading it, lest they be stuck there all day.
  • Furry Confusion: Inanimate tools can be seen on the cover of Kelly’s hardware catalog.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: Felipe does this when imitating the Supremoguy call at the end of the episode, while the tools are building a doghouse for Fixit.
Felipe: I can do it! I’m faster than a flying paintball! Tougher than a steel clamp! Stronger than- (realizes everyone else is glaring at him and trails off) Stronger when I have help from mis amigos.
  • Literal-Minded:
Manny: He [Joe Bolotero] wants an extra set of hands.
Pat: Well, don’t look at us! We don’t have hands!
  • Metafictional Title: The segment is named after Supremoguy, a comic book superhero Felipe became enamored with.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, Manny once got so engrossed in Kelly’s hardware catalog that… well, we don’t find out what actually happened, but the tools are very eager to prevent a repeat.
  • One-Word Title
  • Show Within a Show: Felipe becomes obsessed with “Supremoguy”, a comic book series about a superpowered Phillips screwdriver.
  • Shout-Out: Supremoguy is described by an imitation of the classic “faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound”, although the episode isn’t exactly consistent about what the imitation is- sometimes he’s “faster than a flying paintball, tougher than a steel clamp, stronger than superglue”, sometimes he’s “faster than a flying wing nut” or “faster than a high-speed fan”, and at least once he was “tougher than a nail, faster than a chainsaw”.
  • Slippery Skid: Mr. Lopart does one on some gumballs that spilled out of his gumball machine.
  • Something Person: The superhero star of Felipe's Show Within a Show comic books is named Supremoguy.
  • Superheroes Wear Capes: Supremoguy has a blue cape.
  • Vengeful Vending Machine: At one point, Kevin goes to Mr. Lopart complaining that his gumball machine ate Kevin’s dollar; Mr. Lopart’s attempts to get the machine to give Kevin a gumball end up causing it to break down and let loose a flood of gumballs, which Mr. Lopart promptly slips on.

Tool Talk

Manny is called by Peggy Salazar, the co-owner of a mini-golf course, because her course’s mini-windmill has stopped turning. But what should be a simple repair is majorly stymied by a bizarre issue- Miguel Salazar, co-owner and Peggy’s husband, seems to be ignoring Manny and the tools.

“Tool Talk” contains examples of:

  • Alliterative Title: Tool Talk.
  • Bizarre and Improbable Golf Game: Pat manages to get a hole-in-one on the wrong hole due to a series of extraordinarily improbable ricochets.
  • Continuity Nod: The glue Lopart is using is the same glue from “A Stick Fix”, and he ends up having nearly the same problem with it Felipe and Turner had.
  • Deus ex 'Scuse Me: Peggy Salazar is called away due to having to give another customer (who is never seen) a prize for getting a hole-in-one- before she can explain to Manny and the tools that her husband Miguel is deaf, which would quickly resolve the episode’s main problem.
  • Funny Background Event: The tools can be seen chasing a malfunctioning Fixit around the shop while Manny is on the phone with Peggy Salazar.
  • Mini-Golf Episode: Manny goes to a mini-golf course to fix the course’s obligatory mini-windmill on hole 7 (which had stopped turning). While there, Pat tries to hammer a few golf balls (and ends up getting a hole-in-one on the wrong hole), and the tools have to contend with the fact that Miguel, the course’s owner, seems to be ignoring them (as it turns out, he’s deaf).
  • Slippery Skid: At one point, when Manny and the tools are trying to clean up the shop, Rusty ends up slipping in a puddle of soapy water.
  • Sticky Situation: While trying to paste up a poster, Mr. Lopart ends up inadvertently gluing one hand to his face and the other to Fluffy.
  • Voice for the Voiceless: Peggy is this to Miguel; it was revealed the reason he didn't talk to the tools was because he's deaf and cannot hear, so Peggy communicates with him through sign language so he understands.
