    Chapters

Those who Seek and Demand (求め、欲する者)

The party visits a somewhat familiar Story Zone, where they discover a mysterious girl who is (apparently) tormenting people. Her true identity is Marie Antoinette, who has turned into a Chaos Teller... Now she is Chaos Marie. The party engages in battle with Chaos Marie so they can save the people.

The party defeats Chaos Marie. However, the townsfolk show hostility towards them, and are on the verge of rioting. At the call of Cuvelier, they escape to a nearby shrine of clear spring, where they learn that this Story Zone is called "La Marseillaise", a world where the history of France was being repeated.

The City of Happiness III (幸福の都Ⅲ)

The wish of Chaos Marie is to be loved by her people, and returning that love in kind. She used ther Chaos Teller powers to create and endless supply of food and save the people from hunger and poverty. This fact shocks the group.

The City of Lazyness III (怠惰の街Ⅲ)

The actions of Chaos Marie, who became a Chaos Teller out of compassion, make Revol and Elena concerned about returning the Story Zone to its original state. However, when they see the people drowning in Chaos Marie's endless charity and losing the will to work, they realize things cannot continue like this.

Battle in the Palace III (宮殿の戦いⅢ)

The party infiltrates the Tuileries Palace. Elena gets lost, wanders into the treasure vault, and finds a sinister-looking sword. Chaos Marie shows up, with her smile gone, and attacks Elena. Revol and his friends show up just in the nick of time. They fight Chaos Marie again.

Chaos Marie escapes and the Moon Fountain is released. However, the mysterious sword that was in the treasure vault is now gone. The party thinks that this might be a clue of some kind.

Descent of the Musical Saint I (楽聖降臨Ⅰ)

Cuvelier informs them that the sword in the treasure vault is the "Sword of the Grim Reaper", whose owner is the "God of Death", an entity who inflicts death on this Story Zone's characters. Believing that Chaos Marie stole the Sword of the Grim Reaper in order to erase her own fated death, the party searches for the swords' owner, Monsieur de Paris... They decide to look for Charles-Henri Sanson.

Descent of the Musical Saint III (楽聖降臨Ⅲ)

The group visits the back streets of Paris in search of Charles-Henri Sanson. There, they see Sanson, who is feared and hated by everybody. When the party asks him about Chaos Marie, Sanson runs away. The party chases after him but before they could do that, the musical saint Mozart, who has become a henchman of Chaos Marie, shows up.

The group defeats Mozart, but their opponent was not fighting seriously at all. More enemy reinforcements appear, and when they find themselves in a difficult situation, a mysterious person appears and saves the group. The person who appeared was George Sand, a "beautiful woman dressed like a man".

Descent of the Musical Saint IV (楽聖降臨Ⅳ)

Originally a character from a previous era, George Sand showed up here because of a side effect of Chaos Marie's powers. With her help, the party pursues Sanson, so they can overthrow Chaos Marie and make the revolution a success.

God of Death's Pride (死神の矜持)

The party learns from George that Sanson has fled to the Opera House. They confront him again, but he claims to be exhausted of his role as a executioner, and refuses to listen. Mozart and Phantom, subordinates of Chaos Marie, appear there. The party ends up fighting against an hostile Phantom.

The party defeats Phantom. However, their next enemy, Mozart, joins in. Mozard insults Sanson, which triggers a flashback of "an encounter with a girl from the old days" which he had long forgotten, and he regains his pride as an executioner. Mozart gets beaten by Sanson and his sword.

Heroes of the Past I (過去の英雄たちⅠ)

As the party heads towards the Bastille Prison with Sanson, they encounter some of the most notorious French heroes, who had become subordinates of Chaos Marie. Marshall Gilles de Rais (the hero of the Hundred Year's War), Antonio Salieri (the court musician), and Phantom (from "The Phantom of the Opera"). They engage in battle with the party.

Heroes of the Past III (過去の英雄たちⅢ)

The party defeats Gilles de Rais, Phantom, and Salieri. Revol is moved when he hears Gilles de Rais say: "For those of us from the past, those who live in the next generation are just like our children.'' Meanwhile, Chaos Marie appears before George, who was on her way to retrieve the "Sword of the Death God".

The End of the Olden Days II (古き日の終わりⅡ)

The party infiltrates the Bastille Prison to confront Chaos Marie. Then, before they could realize, they notice Cuvelier has disappeared. The party is confused at first, but Cuvelier returns. She says she "met a certain person", which party shrugs off and moves on.

The End of the Olden Days III (古き日の終わりⅢ)

The party finally confronts Chaos Marie. However, George, who went to retrieve the Sword of the Death God, is captured and the sword is about to get destroyed. But right then, Arsène Lupin the phantom thief, shows up from a hundred years in the future. George is saved by him and the Sword of the Death God is also recovered. And the final battle with an enraged Chaos Marie begins.

The party defeats Chaos Marie. She ask if she will be wasted because she is not needed in this world, and Revol replies "No". As the old people become the soil, new people will sprout and lead to the next era. Turns out this is the answer Chaos Marie was looking for. Chaos Marie hands over the Symbol. And so, the Story Zone is restored and the turmoil is brought to an end.

Gentle God of Death (優しい死神)

After Marie Antoinette is executed, she is reunited with Mozart, who is also thought to be dead. He is the true "God of Death" in this Story Zone, and Mozart asks Marie Antoinette to take over his role as the "God of Death."

Tropes appearing in this episode:

  • And That's Terrible: Elena feels the need to say this two times.
    • She feels bad about Marie Antoinette being Hated by All and executed for it.
    Elena: That's sad... very sad...
    • Later on, when Cuvelier tells them about that time Sanson got dumped by a girl because of his job as an executioner. This time, Revol briefly snarks at her for it.
    Elena: Wow... That's terrible...
Revol: Thanks, Elena. Anyhow, we must have a talk with this person.
  • Anti-Villain: Marie Antoinette became a Chaos Teller out of a desire to be a better queen to her people, and get some love in return. Revol and Elena feel very conflicted about having to deal with her, while the others point out that a Chaos Teller is still a Chaos Teller, and her existence will bring destruction upon the Story Zone.
  • Artistic License – History: Averted in this episode's first example. The second example seems to be avert it too at first.
    • Alicia points out to Revol that Marie Antoinette never said "Let them eat cake", that was just a misconception.
    • Chaos Marie, knowing she is fated to be sentenced to death, reminds Sanson that he will be around to just witness her death, not to personally execute her. Sanson's son, Charles-Henri, is therefore indirectly referenced... Though later in the last chapter, it is still Sanson himself the one who executes Marie Antoinette, not his son.
Narration: The execution was carried out by Monsieur de Paris... by Charles-Henri Sanson.
Charles-Henri Sanson: My queen... It was not supposed to be me... This is bullshit...
  • Attempted Rape: The story begins with a flashback of Chaos Marie almost getting kidnapped and assaulted by a gang of thugs. The intervention of Charles-Henri Sanson is enough to scare the thugs away.
  • Beam Me Up, Scotty!: In-Universe. Revol thinks Marie Antoinette did really say "Let them eat cake" when her people ran out of bread. Alicia tells Revol that, no, she never said that.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • In the flashback, Charles-Henri Sanson shows up just in time to prevent some lowlifes from getting their hands on Chaos Marie.
    • Revol gets Elena to run away from Chaos Marie before the latter gets to kill the former for sneaking in the treasure vault.
  • The Dreaded: With a mix of Hated by All. Charles-Henri Sanson is feared and heavily disliked by the townspeople for his executioner occupation. Even merely asking about him is a Berserk Button to some people.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: A depressed and drunk Sanson is found a at bar, commenting the drinks are terrible. His mere presence enough to scare away other clients.
  • The Executioner: The Sanson family is this, with Charles being the current local executioner, and God of Death.
  • The Good King: Chaos Marie is adored by the townsfolk for providing them with infinite food. Cuvelier points out that Chaos Marie was not manipulating their minds at all, their love for her was genuine.
  • Gratuitous English: The Parisians' reffer to Chaos Marie as "Princess", the actual English word. Also, one of their particular insults towards the party is "Sadists".
  • He Knows Too Much: When Elena finds the Sword of the Death God, Chaos Marie spots her and tries to kill her for merely having seen it.
Chaos Marie: Now that you've seen that sword, I'm not letting you go home alive!
  • Lured into a Trap: When George Sand infiltrates the Bastillon Prison to look for the Sword of the Shinigami, she pridefully claims that her covert was a success. George is then caught by Chaos Marie and is immediately imprisioned.
George Sand: Wahahaha! My infiltration was a success! A splendid stealth operation! Damn,I'm so naturally awesome! Now all I need to do is to find this Sword of the Death God quickly and take it home! Huh... where could it be hidden?
????: Well now, miss rat, the only hidden thing here is a special prize just for you.
George Sand: Hey that hurts, I don't like being treated like a rat. Who dares to call—
[George gets locked inside a cage]
    George Sand: Oh.
Chaos Marie: See, the funny thing is, most people want to get out of prison, but you just walked straight into it, you dummy-dumb-dumbass...
    George Sand: Shit!!
  • I'm Not Afraid of You: When Phantom reports Mozart's being One-Hit Killed by Sanson, Chaos Marie says she does not fear him. This is later subverted in the ending where she admits that even though she knows she will get executed, Chaos Marie is still afraid of dying while being surrounded by a people full of hatred for her.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Apparently the name of the notorious Marquis de Sade can be used as a flat out insult.
Townspeople: Demons! Devils! Sadists! Marquis de Sade!
  • Monster of the Week: Chaos Marie is the villain of this event.
  • Mr. Exposition: Par of the course with Cuvelier in these events. Most of her screen-time is just explaining stuff to the party, such as the backstory of Charles Henri-Sanson and Marie Antoinette.
Cuvelier: Marie Antoinette was born not in France, but in the neighboring Austria, into the Habsburg family. Both of the nobles and the people glanced at the queen from said neighbouring country with utter suspicion. As if they intended to take over this country someday...
Chaos Marie: Yeah, miss history lesson over there is right... That's why people around me were always hostile to me. Even the slightest screw up would be enough to set off a storm of ridicule...
  • Not Helping Your Case: Phantom's utter failure to defend Salieri's reputation when Alicia remarks that Salieri was often considered unremarkable in comparison to Mozart.
Phantom: He is a caring and humble man of character, who was so moved by Master Bethoven's performance that he offered him to be part of his backup band.
Revol: So he is an alright person who can honestly appreciate the talents of others.
    Salieri: Well said, Phantom boy!
Salieri: What the hell, Phantom boy!?
Gilles de Rais: You people have issues...
  • Obliviously Evil: Not only Chaos Marie's existence is a threat to the La Marseillaise Story Zone, her infinite food supply is causing family men to refuse to work, much to the embarrassment of their wives and children. The party concludes that Chaos Marie must be stopped, otherwise society will collapse before the Zone gets destroyed.
  • Passing the Torch: Before Elena and Cuvelier purify the Story Zone, Chaos Marie asks George and Lupin to make sure history gets shaped for the better, since both are part of the newer generation, and Marie will be gone soon.
  • Playing the Victim Card: Before the first fight, Chaos Marie sounds initially confused. Following her defeat, she starts sobbing histerically about being suddenly "bullied" by the party, which angers the Parisians for seemingly harming their ruler fo no reason, prompting the party to bail out. When Elena is spotted by Chaos Marie at the treasure vault, the latter confesses she actually tried to kill the party.
Chaos Marie: I totally missed the mark that time... oh well... can't let you leave this place, sneaky runt.
  • Princesses Rule: The townspeople call Chaos Marie a princess despite being, you know, the queen. She rolls with it anyway.
Revol: Princess Marie, isn't it? Are you Marie Antoinette, by any chance...?
Chaos Marie: Actually, I am a queen, but whatever. Yes, it is I, Marie Antoinette! Good to meet you all!
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: Amadeus Mozart, Phantom, Antonio Salieri, and Gilles de Rais are faithful servants of Chaos Marie in this event, but also of the incompetent variety. Though by the time the latter three are confronted, Mozart is out of commission.
  • Rebellious Princess: In her younger years, Chaos Marie once felt like sneaking out into the city because palace life worn her out. It led into her encounter with some thugs and being rescued by Sanson.
  • Shinigami: Cuvelier explains that in this Story Zone, a character plays the role of the God of Death. As in, someone who literally inflict death on other people. This person is Charles-Henri Sanson, and he loathes being one.
  • Stepford Smiler: Chaos Marie puts up a front of acting like a friendly Cheerful Child in public, but at closed doors (such as her encounter with Elena), she drops the act and speaks in a harsher (but still silly) way, and with much more contempt.
Chaos Marie: You... you're the one who smacked me silly in town... how the enfer did you get here?
Elena: Uh... why are you speaking like that now...?
  • The Unfought: Previously a recurring Mini-Boss in the main story, Charles Henri Sanson is now cooperating with the party in this episode, and therefore is never fought.
