Looking for a place to stay, Soma must impress Fumio Daimidou, the innkeeper. After passing on his first try using leftovers, Soma meets his new roomates, including Satoshi Isshiki, the current Seventh Seat of the Elite Ten Council.
This episode provides examples of:
- Absurdly Powerful Student Council: The Elite Ten Council has the most power at school after the director, even above the teachers.
- Adaptation Expansion:
- In addition of what Yuuki and Shun were shown doing, Fumio also scolds Marui for having too many books drop on the floor and Daigo and Shoji bickering there.
- Air Vent Escape: Isshiki invites Soma to his welcoming party like this. Also the others say he does this on regular basis, which is preferable than him using the intercom.
- Battle Aura:
- Soma can feel this coming from Fumio when she welcomes him.
- Then in The Stinger, Isshiki reveals himself as a member of the Council, with the same menacing aura around him.
- Beware the Silly Ones: Even though Isshiki likes wearing an apron over his completely naked body and inviting people to parties via the attic, he's a pretty good cook who will test anyone he deems a worthy opponent.
- Character Title: "Maria of the Polar Star" refers to Fumio Daimidou, the landlady of the dormitory.
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: The first vibe Isshiki gives is of a goofy teen who goes around naked on an apron. Soma later discovers that he is really the Seventh Seat of the Elite 10.
- Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: Soma sings the opening theme while drunk on rice juice.
- Drunk on Milk: After many drinks, all the guys get in their Party Mood, only for the subtitles to clarify that they got drunk out of rice juice. (Or, if you think it really was alcohol, it's Frothy Mugs of Water)
- Evolving Credits: The rotating dish in the opening changed. For the ending "Spice", the foodgasm reaction is from Ryoko and Yuuki.
- Exposition Party: Soma's welcoming in Marui's room provides the Establishing Character Moment for each resident and general info of the Elite Ten Council and their rank at Tootsuki.
- Female Gaze: Isshiki and his Naked Apron scene (where we get plenty of shots of his naked butt) and Soma's reaction shot to Isshiki's dish.
- I Was Quite a Looker: Fumio's Happy Flashback, courtesy of Soma's food.
- Impossibly Delicious Food:
- Fumio's reaction to Soma's dinner made her have a Happy Flashback of her youth and her boyfriend at the beach (because of the mackerel and squid's combined flavors), enough to make her try to smooch Soma while still on her foodgasm.
- Soma's reaction to Isshiki's dish gives him the sensation of being stripped naked and surrounded by the Spring scenery.
- Insert Song: While partying, Soma is singing the Opening Theme loudly.
- Large Ham: Isshiki's rant about youth and how they should live to the extreme while they're living together.
- Life of the Party: The party gets even more lively once Isshiki appears in a Naked Apron.
- MacGyvering: Soma manages to gain Fumio's approval with leftover ingredients, by making a rich burger with canned mackerel and an egg soup's stock with his own dried squid.
- Male Gaze:
- Fumio's Foodgasm consisted of a Happy Flashback where she begged her boyfriend to warm her up, while she is in a wet short dress.
- Megumi's Furo Scene
- A take of Ryoko sleeping in full detail of her cleavage.
- Meaningful Name: The Dorm is named "Polar Star", which is the Guide Star and one of the brightest. At the end of the episode, Fumio thinks to herself how the stars gather around the Moon. Tootsuki has the kanji of "Moon" in it's name.
- Military Moonshiner: Soma at first gets nervous when he realizes that Ryoko brewed home-made sake, only for her to clarify that it's just juice. Later, they all get drunk with only that.
- Mr. Exposition: Yuuki and Ryoko make Marui explain Soma about Tootsuki's Elite Ten.
- Naked First Impression: Megumi finds out that Soma is her new roomate when he walks in the middle of her bath, also naked himself.
- Naked People Are Funny: Isshiki pulls this off in the middle of the party with a Naked Apron (the others claim it's an "illusion net").
- No Name Given: Averted. Daigo and Shoji's names and room numbers are shown right here. In the manga, their information is provided only in extra material.
- No Sense of Personal Space: Isshiki is said to get into the others' room by the ceiling unnanounced, on regular basis. Also Marui's room is always chosen as the gathering spot, even if he agrees or not.
- Oh, Crap!: Soma's reaction upon discovering that Isshiki is among the Elite Ten.

Woolseyism translation of the title uses "Madonna" i.e. "my lady", instead of "Maria")
- Scenery Censor: Soma is completely naked when he walks into the bathroom when Megumi was at the tub. The rubber ducky provides the censorship of him.
- Tempting Fate: Just as Megumi is in the bathroom, she says to herself that it's a good thing they don't have to see each other outside the classes. Souma then crashes into the bath.
- Tranquil Fury: After Daigo and Shoji complain to Yuuki about the smell of her room, she kept a sweet smile, while she intended to go get a fresh duck.
