Recap / Family Guy S 22 E 1 Fertilized Megg

Go To

Meg volunteers to be a surrogate for Bruce and Jeffrey, but she's left high and dry when she finally has the baby.

Tropes:

  • Addled Addict: Peter becomes hooked on meth during the time that Meg is pregnant, eventually becoming extremely skinny, asking the others for money, and being absent over the Easter period. He becomes a Recovered Addict just in time for Meg's waters to break.
  • Baby Be Mine: Meg grows a bit too attached to Liza Judy Barbara due to the latter being the first person who's ever needed her and giving her life a purpose. Meg tries to buy more time by repeatedly telling Liza's dads not to come over, but ultimately does the right thing and surrenders Liza to her rightful family.
  • Baby's First Words: Spoofed with Liza Judy Barbara's "first gay icon" Gaga, which is what convinces Meg to give her back to her fathers.
  • Body Horror: Peter's body is absolutely wrecked when he gets addicted to meth, which leaves him as nothing more than skin and bones covered in pick marks. He ends up even worse when he later gets hooked on fentanyl.
  • Bowling for Ratings: This episode begins with the Griffin children at the bowling alley. To Meg's surprise, she finds Peter and his friends bowling in one lane. During his game, Peter insists that he cannot bowl without mimicking Fred Flintstone's twinkle toes move.
  • Company Cross References: Lois dresses up as the MCU iteration of She-Hulk for Halloween during the Time-Passes Montage.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Drugs Are Bad: Played for Laughs. Peter decides to try meth (again) during the duration of Meg's pregnancy. His condition gradually worsens until the family stages an intervention and send him to rehab. He later ends up homeless and in even worse physical condition when he becomes a fentanyl addict.
  • Fanservice: Lois wears a sports bra and tight pants that show off her figure.
  • Fun with Acronyms: One scene has a bum wearing a "GILF" sweater, thinking it stands for "God, I Love Fentanyl"note .
  • Halloween Cosplay: During a brief scene taking place on Halloween, Lois is shown dressed as the MCU's She-Hulk, Chris as Ted Lasso, Meg as Tanya McQuoid, and Brian and Stewie as Mario and Luigi, respectively.
  • Marilyn Maneuver: Peter wears a dress for his bowling, with the heat from the bowling ball return system causing his dress to go up. Peter calls it an "unexpected sexy turn of events" and it causes Joe to go on a long-winded tirade of facts starting with Marilyn's real name being Norma and ending with secretaries.
  • Named After Somebody Famous: Liza Judy Barbara is named after three celebrities with huge LGBT Fanbases: Liza Minnelli, her mother Judy Garland, and Barbra Streisand.
  • Never Trust a Trailer: Prior to its airing, the synopsis for this episode said that Meg was "left high and dry when she finally [has] the baby". In the episode proper, Meg actually insisted on looking after the baby herself, even making excuses not to give her back to her fathers until the end.
  • Prisoner's Last Meal: Bizarrely, Peter chooses to have a pair of edible underwear for his last meal in a Cutaway Gag.
Corrections Officer: I can't believe you picked that for your last meal.
  • Pun-Based Title: On "fertilized egg".
  • Series Continuity Error: Peter claims to be trying meth for the first time here, even though he'd previously done meth in "April in Quahog".
  • Shout-Out: Peter rolls his bowling ball like Fred Flintstone, complete with Bruce playing the xylophone sound effect, then declared "Yibba Yabba Yoo!", as a legally acceptable sound-alike. He delivers the same line on the electric chair in the "edible underwear" cutaway as he's frying.
  • Take That!: Meg's pregnancy causes her to seek out the most horrible foods possible to eat, which Peter takes to mean Papa John's. Peter takes it further by tracking down the founder and telling him to his face that he thinks Papa John's pizza is the worst pizza in the world, worse than Lunchables or 7/11's pizza even.
  • Time-Passes Montage: During Meg’s pregnancy, Peter ends up being a meth addict and has to go to rehab.
  • Wacky Cravings: During her pregnancy, Meg craves such things like a cup of buffalo sauce with a hollowed-out pickle as a straw.
  • Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?: One of Stewie's classmates is apparently named "Yogurt".
