Recap / Fairy May Cry, 7 "Vergil"

Go To

What starts off as a normal day for Dante and Fairy Tail turns into a nightmare as a personal figure from Dante's past arrives in Magnolia, seeking a battle with the Son of Sparda...

  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Trish pats Wendy on the head, finding her cute.
  • Antagonist Title: Vergil makes his debut and quickly establishes himself as someone to be feared, even by the likes of Fairy Tail.
  • Blood Knight: The first thing Natsu does after meeting Trish is demand a fight. After waking up he decides to go challenge Dante to a rematch.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
  • Dramatic Irony: Carla advises Wendy against going out into the rain, and remarks that it's not as if it's life or death... right as Dante and Vergil are having their first clash in the story.
  • He Is Not My Boyfriend: Lucy's response when Dante teases her about Loke.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Dante receives this treatment for the first time in the story at the hands of Vergil, much to Fairy Tail's shock. Thankfully he manages to recover, without so much as a scar.
  • Mama Bear: Carla stops Wendy from going out into the rain, worried she'd get a cold.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Dante's meeting with Vergil in the rain uses dialog and some parts of the fight from their first fight in Devil May Cry 3, including how he is stabbed by Vergil.
    • When Natsu smells that there isn't an army, but one guy Lucy's whining about how strong he must be is taken from the Fairy Tail episode Allied Forces Assemble.
    • When Vergil reveals Dante is his brother, Erza's shocked reaction "He's... your... brother" is from the Fairy Tail episode I'm With You with Hoteye.
  • The Nose Knows: Natsu's sense of smell not only lets him track down Dante, but can tell that he was fighting one opponent, who is rather twisted, and smells similar to his new friend.
  • One-Man Army: Vergil, with Fairy Tail initially assuming that Dante was fighting an army with the amount of destruction their fight caused.
  • Shout-Out: When Natsu goes after Dante, his friends' reaction to his obsession with fighting is from a scene with Alex Armstrong.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Lucy's reaction to Happy dragging her towards the fight with someone who can give Dante a run for his money.
  • Super Mode: The chapter features Dante's first (albeit involuntary) use of his Devil Trigger.
  • True Companions: Fairy Tail makes their way to Dante with much more haste upon realizing he's in trouble, and furiously attacks Vergil after he stabs Dante. They even rebut his claim it's none of their business by saying it became their business when he attacked one of their own.
  • The Worf Effect: Vergil establishes how much of a threat he is by defeating not only Dante, but dispatching Gray, Natsu, and Erza in rapid succession afterward.
