Tropes:

  • Almost Kiss: On the lake, Magnus interrupts Martha and Jonas before they can kiss by running into the lake between them.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other:
    • This episode shows Michael loved his wife and son dearly, and even agreeing to commit suicide so that his son doesn't get erased from existence.
    • Hannah, for her part, also shows she loved Michael, only beginning an affair because she thought he was drifting away.
  • Bottle Episode: Purely in terms of timeline rather than space. Aside from a brief scene in 1921, the episode largely takes place on the evening of June 20, 2019, hours before Michael commits suicide.
  • Broken Bird: Mikkel/Michael after growing up without his parents and family for 33 years.
  • Call-Back: Some of the things what Michael says to Jonas have already been spoken by his future selves to Jonas, and Michael's comment about how everyone has a part to play is already been said by Noah.
  • The Cutie: 2019!Jonas before Michael's suicide.
  • A Death in the Limelight: Michael has the most focus in this episode (apart from 2020!Jonas), and the episode ends with his suicide.
  • Déjà Vu: Hannah has a strong sense of deja vu looking at Mikkel, who strongly resembles her husband's younger self...because he is her husband's younger self.
  • Downer Ending: Jonas tries to prevent Michael's suicide but fails, Ulrich and Hannah begin their ill-fated affair, Peter is saddened about his deteriorating marriage and comforted by Benni, and Bartosz is depressed about not being able to attend Martha's parents' anniversary.
  • Face Death with Dignity: Michael decides to follow through his suicide rather than risk his son Jonas's existence.
  • Grandfather Paradox: Brought up. If Michael doesn't kill himself, his past self Mikkel won't travel back in time and father Jonas, who will then be Ret-Gone. Michael realizes this and rationally decides to take his own life.
  • Internal Reveal: Franziska learns that her father is having an affair with a prostitute.
  • Last Kiss: Jonas from 2020 kisses Martha in June 2019, believing that he will erase his own existence if he prevents his father's suicide.
  • The Mentor: Old Claudia takes in Jonas after talking him down from preventing Michael from committing suicide.
  • My Future Self and Me: Michael freezes when he stands in front of Mikkel because all his suppressed feelings flow back in.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Jonas's reaction when he realizes that he was the one who caused his father's suicide.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Jonas's attempt to save his father only causes his suicide.
  • Not So Stoic: Adam when remembering this episode's events from his past self's perspective, even lightly telling off Adult Magnus to prepare for the last cycle.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Aleksander Tiedemann is horrified when he realizes the murder he committed in 1986 is still being investigated.
    • Michael is shocked when seeing his past self at the Kahnwalds, and his emotions come out in full force when face to face with Mikkel.
  • Once More, with Clarity: The first episode's events are revisited from Mikkel/Michael's perspective, as he reveals it was Jonas who caused his disappearance from November 2019.
  • Primal Scene: Mikkel walks in on his parents to tell them that he is sick.
  • The Reveal: Michael reveals to Jonas that he was the one who brought Mikkel into the cave the night that he disappeared.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Jonas travels to June 2019 to prevent his father's suicide, thinking that this was where everything went wrong.
  • Stable Time Loop:
    • It turns out Adam sent Jonas to 'save' Michael to actually enable his father's suicide.
    • Michael knows about and writes his suicide letter only because 2020 Jonas shows it to him.
  • Something Only They Would Say: 2020!Jonas proves to his father that he knows his true identity as Mikkel Nielsen by asking him for an 'ultimate fist bump'.
  • Their First Time: Past-Jonas sleeps with Martha in this episode, not yet realizing the latter is his aunt.
  • Title Drop: Jonas tells Michael that his suicide is the beginning of the endless cycle.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Jonas turns to be this to his future self, Adam.
  • Voiceover Letter: The beginning of Michael's suicide note is read as a voiceover.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Adult Magnus to Adam when the former asks why he didn't clearly state his purpose to Jonas.

  • You Already Changed the Past: 2020 Jonas tries to prevent his father killing himself, but he finds out that this attempt was what made Michael kill himself in the first place, because the latter believes that Jonas plays a very important part and cannot be eradicated from existence.
